- PhrosTT, on 05/23/2009, -1/+92i used to play tf2 on 360.
in october i dropped $1000 on a gaming pc.
worth every penny. - Yarkz, on 05/23/2009, -5/+78I miss the old unlock system, I hate the idea that I may have to wait months before I get the new weapons and there is NOTHING I can do about it. Before I could say ok get 10 more kills and I got jarate! or something along those lines.
- Derf0293, on 05/23/2009, -2/+70Or just spectate a game and leave it on while you go on a vacation
- andycr512, on 05/23/2009, -13/+78On average, it will take you about 88 hours to get all the items. I would call that grinding.
- BugMeNot2, on 05/23/2009, -20/+76No, there's no grinding involved at all since all you have to do to get the items is play the game normally.
- supakoopa, on 05/23/2009, -2/+45http://store.valvesoftware.com/tf2/tf2-lithograph. ...
I want this. Now. - dsmx, on 05/22/2009, -33/+75it's a pity the new unlock system now requires more grinding than the old system at present.
- a1532b, on 05/23/2009, -10/+48I was fortunate enough to be off work today...so I played tf2 hoping to get new weapons. I played pretty much all day and didn't get anything at all. Not even one of the items I've already unlocked. Seriously valve, If I can play like 8 hours and not get a single item what's the point? I saw dozens of other people get stuff, and I'm constantly attacked with weapons that I have absolutely no way of getting. Why does valve hate us?
- Fabbyfubz, on 05/23/2009, -1/+38"we don't want players to have to do weird things like join achievement grinding servers to get new content. "
Well, then you have players going AFK in servers that don't kick - cannonball, on 05/23/2009, -2/+30Our nine favorite hats?
http://www.teamfortress.com/sniper_vs_spy/day09_en ... - ban1d0, on 05/23/2009, -0/+26You can light the sniper's arrows on fire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btTV-tLzDjo - Royish, on 05/23/2009, -4/+30Agreed, console gaming is for chumps. And chumps mums.
- Super6, on 05/23/2009, -1/+22Get a pc
- neo991lb, on 05/23/2009, -6/+241. Find a server with a low player cap
2. AFK.
3. ???
4. Profit!!!
***** hell, is it that hard? - KirbyMeister, on 05/23/2009, -0/+18They just patched it.
- LMN8R, on 05/23/2009, -6/+22@andycr512
*****. The only reason why unlocks are taking long for so many people is due to a glitch that Valve has admitted to that will be fixed. Try reading the actual post that this damned Digg article links to, and you'll see that the *AVERAGE PLAYER* will unlock the items in two weeks. Dedicated players who play hours a day will get them much faster.
In other words, not many hours of play. And certainly a whole ***** faster that it would take to legitimately unlock the weapons with the old achievement system. - jermm, on 05/23/2009, -3/+18I don't they test on DX8 systems.
- AzzX, on 05/23/2009, -6/+19I think it is awesome though I did get the Ambassodor within 5 minutes of playing last night. HL2DM goodness with more accuracy. You don't even need to play as a spy as it works long distance. best weapon thus far. Headshotting someone point blank whilst disguised is hilarious.
- avatarpalin, on 05/23/2009, -0/+13Did that, got a kid... (Child Achievement)
- jjones20, on 05/23/2009, -2/+13If your goal while playing the game is to just unlock the weapons then yeah, its going to be annoying, but if you enjoy playing the game just to play then you are going to still enjoy it, and pick up the unlocks quicker than you would have before. I dont mind it, im finding items i didnt have before (mostly for the heavy).
- PiKo85, on 05/23/2009, -2/+13yep I've been in an idle server for a few hours got most of the unlocks while minimize and at work, much better than having to load bots into a map and having to farm achievements for a few hours, ty Valve.
- NailerNforce, on 05/23/2009, -1/+12At least the new system prevents everyone and their mother playing the newly updated classes so that they can grind achievements for their new weapons.
- valarking, on 05/23/2009, -7/+16***** blows
I've played 10 hours since the update and haven't gotten a single thing, not even an old item. And people all around me are getting 10-15+
It's COMPLETELY random, and entirely asinine. - stklaw, on 05/23/2009, -1/+101) Create server
2) Set game time to 5000 minutes
3) Leave overnight
4) ???
5) Profit! - BestJaxx, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9If you played Oblivion on the 360, then upgrade on that one also. Making the switch to PC is a pretty important thing to do if you are in to video games.
- Vince2501, on 05/23/2009, -6/+15http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX1H1ykm2oU&NR= ...
The question everyone is thinking: Did you guys playtest this update? That and the graphic error when Jarate is used should have been corrected right away. I fail to see how Valve could possibly overlook enormous errors, unless they did almost no playtesting. - NinjaGod, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9The PC is obviously the powerhouse of gaming.
+1 - Pr0v0st, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9Then buy it.
- aforsberg, on 05/23/2009, -0/+9Rut roh, sims 3???
- darkeagle5601, on 05/23/2009, -4/+12Get over it. You get rewarded for playing the game, however random. Who gives a ***** if you don't like it, and you can't get the item in an hour. They want you to play the game to get the weapons, not achievement whore the game to get the weapons, which 90% of the TF2 players did. It's been what, less than two days since the update was out? Stop whining like a little bitch and be happy when you get a weapon. I'll tell you one thing: you're going to be really ***** psyched when you do get the weapons, instead of just from farming them. Like others are saying, if playing the game is considered farming, go play something else.
Spies, a bunch of bitchy little girls. - acroyear2, on 05/23/2009, -2/+10I have a hangover. oh wait this isn't twitter.
- jeffmon, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8Someone posted a Spy wallpaper with one of the icons, and I just expanded on that:

God I love this game. - Sentouki, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7Damn straight
- blackhydra, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7If you could actually unlock the items without requiring 80+ hours of playing time then yes, it would be.
- AngelBunny, on 05/23/2009, -1/+8they are struggling because of the limited ram size in the console's hardware. valve made a post about it.
- a1532b, on 05/23/2009, -3/+10Back @ nextekcarl: I didn't do anything to valve...I <3 valve. They give me fun games to play and free updates on occasion. They made one of the best gaming platforms on the market and ..and... damnit valve isn't that enough sucking up? I have about 400 hours in tf2 (yes, I have no life whatsoever). If you are supposed to get more unlocks with more playtime, then I'm just an unlucky SOB that pissed off the random number generator somehow. Either way, I gave up trying and created a pure idle server for myself. I figure if everyone else is doing it, might as well join in. :D
If anyone wants help in doing so then this youtube video should help out. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbchKON-4xY - doctornkul, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7Same. I got Natascha 4 times (which I already had), and dead ringer once after playing for about 9 hours.
- sTiKyt, on 05/23/2009, -4/+11If you call playing the damn game 'grinding' then you need to stop playing.
- thh204, on 05/23/2009, -2/+9You can afford a 360 but not a PC? You can get a pretty awesome gaming rig for sub $400. Not only will you not have to pay for XBL, but games also cost less.
Not that I am saying anything's bad with an XBox, I have one and game on it much more than on a PC. - Daemastrius, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6That only works for the ealier unlockables.
The new spy and sniper achievements don't include milestone achievements and thus, getting them is completely luck based. - wrecktheplace, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6as asap as possible??
- AdHavoc, on 05/23/2009, -2/+7roflcpt3r: did you not pay attention to the article? did you bother to visit it? unlockables are not obtained randomly, not for skill or achievements or anything.
- dsmx, on 05/23/2009, -8/+13Yes except the old system you went to an achievement server and in an hour or so you had all the unlocks now you have to spend, well I use my example 10 hours got me 2 unlocks. Yeah real great system.
- therightclique, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5Who doesn't understand anything? Oh yeah, you.
- BestJaxx, on 05/23/2009, -1/+6@JFallon126: TF2 is a luxury. If you can't afford it, then that sucks for you, but you don't get to complain that you don't have the money to buy it.
- jesusfreak216, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5what is the error with jarate?
- Coylter, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4its a good game
- CSFFlame, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5achievement_idle
- aeramil, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5Until it was nerfed in the newest update of course ^^
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4You can "just play," you ***** idiot. What the *****? The achievement system forced you to play a particular way to earn unlockables, and now you can just play any way you want and achieve the same thing. How in ***** hell does it possibly affect you if you want to "just play."
