- sethkinast, on 12/12/2008, -1/+128Whyyyy always during finals season.
- bossm4n, on 12/12/2008, -0/+106Between this and L4D, goodbye sleep, work, wife, life, etc.
- Joudoki, on 12/12/2008, -15/+86A scout update!
I just JIZZED IN MY PANTS - timdorr, on 12/12/2008, -0/+53I've visited Valve and talked specifically with the TF2 group (I was there to preview the first medic pack, actually). They mentioned the whole Xbox port issue for these updates. The big problem is that there are costs associated with each Xbox update. They want to push this stuff for free, but Microsoft has to approve each update and they charge for that and the hosting within the XBLM. They maintain the Xbox and PC versions in parallel (same release cycle, QA path and everything). But it basically comes down to the money. It's actually very little work technically. Just a difference in business models.
- Coven, on 12/12/2008, -0/+52Damnit. Why are they doing this while I'm still busy trying to get un-addicted to L4D?
- dreamofrevenge, on 12/11/2008, -5/+54AWESOME.
- ansecos, on 12/11/2008, -2/+48FINALLY

- Hero0fTime, on 12/12/2008, -0/+31Build a level 3 dispenser here!
- Chebsi, on 12/12/2008, -0/+30I find the TF2 community to be quite civil, actually.

- timdorr, on 12/12/2008, -0/+28Actually, it was released just now :|
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/12/2008, -0/+27Valve is too good to their customers, definitely makes them one of the best developers out there.
- aznpwnzor, on 12/12/2008, -1/+27THANK YA DOCTOR!
- ingoldsby, on 12/12/2008, -10/+36Bah drop DX8 already and give me my fully upgraded engine! :)
- lolitsraph, on 12/12/2008, -1/+24VALVE IS CREDIT TO TEAM
- deerhaunt3r, on 12/12/2008, -0/+22"next few days"?
sounds like Valve has a nice Christmas present for us! - DavidTurnbull, on 12/12/2008, -0/+22I play as an Engy most of the time and it's good we're now given a bit of a time sink with the upgradeable teleporters and dispensers.
- 2Bnor2B, on 12/12/2008, -0/+20Sapping a level three dispenser or teleporter is going to be more satisfying because of the amount time and metal it will take the engineer to rebuild. It's going to really change the dynamics of an engineer defending his toys.
- TehChrisMeister, on 12/12/2008, -0/+17Because they get a kick out of watching us fail miserably as we play our lives away...I hate finals week...
- theshizzler, on 12/12/2008, -0/+16The new teleporters are ridiculous. It can teleport an entire team in 10-15 seconds.
- JoemcC00L, on 12/12/2008, -1/+17Wow, this is great news. One particular update:
"Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground."
Holy crap, when I get backstabbed the spy can pick up my weapon and recharge their cloak. I have a feeling there will be many curse words in the voice chat after this update... - PhoenixAvatar2, on 12/12/2008, -2/+17You need to actually try the game before you can call it unbalanced. TF2 is one of the most balanced games I've ever played. All but a few maps are won by either side roughly 50% of the time.
TF2 was a very fine and complete game when it was released. The constant stream of content has only added to it. Don't make childish statements about skipping it until it's "done" unless you actually intend to follow through with that. - tnoy, on 12/12/2008, -1/+16I'll keep your wife occupied for you.
- Asianwaste, on 12/12/2008, -0/+14Because it's out already?
Those Lv3TP's are insanely fast. - BackFall, on 12/12/2008, -0/+13Awesomeness raised to infinity.
I just played a game of Badwater as a spy through the whole game. The cloak from ammopacks and dead bodies is totally sweet. Backstab registration is still a bitch, but this is really awesome indeed. Valve ftw! - Velnich, on 12/12/2008, -2/+15No thanks, it looks and runs great right now. Why take that away from some people for minor improvements?
Unless they have a way to let such a upgrade be gold for the system that can handle it and not affect the rest. Then bring it on. - Lanfearz, on 12/12/2008, -1/+13You are an idiot.
No game is ever balanced. Especially with 9 unique classes.
Valve is God for being one of the only online devs to update content in a game for FREE.
And can I just repeat again,
You are an idiot. - inactive, on 12/12/2008, -2/+13Get a PC that doesn't suck and play it like it was meant to be played.
- wondertwins, on 12/12/2008, -2/+13I was reading this update and i JIZZED IN MY PANTS
- Pake, on 12/12/2008, -1/+12They need to fix their ancient netcode and then shrink the backstab range with spies. I hate having a spy run towards me and somehow get a backstab when he's no where even close.
- darrickc, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11I can't wait for the scout update. Scout is so fun to play but is useless on my favorite maps.
- tange1, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11I think they do DRM the best possible way. It's not obtrusive - doesn't endanger your machine. Offers decent flexibility on playing on more than one machine, etc.
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11I know this is a difficult thing to control, but I really wish they would tighten up the spy's backstab hits. I swear there were instances today where I definitely got legitimate backstabs, but they just wouldn't register. Ah well...
- howdysmyword, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11ive checked the tf2 website everyday for the past 2 months, and FINALLY something! ahhh, but it all seems so worth it. VERY excited for spy ammo ability, more so then scout update
- wondertwins, on 12/12/2008, -1/+11YOU DID WELL!!! *hugs Sasha/Natascha
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9If all DRM was as well done as Valve's then no one would care about it.
- Fritzed, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9They can drop DX8 support when they come out with the linux version. It runs great in wine right now, but L4D does not because it lacks DX8 support.
- Jb611, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9Me too, but this was on the site
We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year. We'll provide you with a rough date when we have one.
So at least they're trying to help out 360 owners now. - eliburford, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9Looking forward to the Scout update. Good to see some updates at long last!
- HairyGrapeNuts, on 12/12/2008, -1/+10omg valve
*hard on* - Wazzuper1, on 12/12/2008, -1/+10Um, what are you talking about "unfinished"? They're actually adding MORE to TF2 -- a pretty damn good multiplayer game even before all of the new class updates came out. You see, these new "updates" are to keep the game fresh. New weapons = new strategies = change in game play.
To say that the game is unbalanced is really just admitting that you aren't too great at the game, or that you have lousy teammates. Every class has something they're great at. The strategy is pair up/group together different classes to win the game. There are some exceptionally great players. But even they can't win a game single handedly. You have to work as a team. The updates are brought in to promote people to try out different classes and try different strategies. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8I play Engie more than anything, but I'm wondering how this will affect balance on maps like Dustbowl round 2 and 3. We'll have to see.
- sethkinast, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8It's out!
- Darkangel754, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8They were on VALVe time
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+9What timdorr said.
They've publicly stated that they would like to distribute the update for free to 360 owners, but "free" isn't in Microsoft's lexicon. -
