- artofwot, on 05/05/2009, -3/+197Here's hoping for unlockable jars of piss.
... Wow. There's something I never though I'd say. - vtnerd, on 05/06/2009, -0/+127Did anyone else feel like that article cut off without finishing? I got done reading but still expected the text to continue.
- jet3004, on 05/06/2009, -3/+128It's a bow & arrow.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/06/2009, -2/+126I bought The Orange Box exclusively for Portal.....and now I'm starting to realize how much I've been missing out when I neglected the other games. I tried TF2 once and didn't get it so I quit. That was a huge mistake.
Half Life was a bit before my time, me being 15. Now I realize how awesome it is.
And Valve rocks....free DLC is how it should ALWAYS be. - strategy, on 05/06/2009, -0/+121Is it too late to do that instead?
- kidwithsword, on 05/06/2009, -2/+122I hope one of the unlockables fires Scout-seeking missiles...
- S2000, on 05/06/2009, -0/+117Half-Life was a bit before your time? Holy crap I feel old.
- HighlanderBR, on 05/05/2009, -10/+116Yes, come to the battle your coward sniper
- tastypaste, on 05/05/2009, -0/+92I'm really curious to know what kind of advantage a sniper could have at close range over other classes which are specifically designed for close range combat.
- chrislewis, on 05/06/2009, -1/+92It has to be a boomerang, would be so cool.
- Visual77, on 05/05/2009, -2/+86changing the weapon to make it a more close in weapon?
seems a bit weird for a sniper, but i'm listening. - datcrazydj, on 05/06/2009, -1/+69That Dr. Who theme song did make it a lot more interesting to read.
- jetmax25, on 05/06/2009, -7/+68TF2 > halo 3 + cod4
- Velenne, on 05/06/2009, -1/+61I've put 120 hours in the Spy. I can't wait for the sniper update. :D
- dasdef, on 05/06/2009, -0/+55http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.p ...
- Checkerd, on 05/06/2009, -0/+49Hopefully no one. There was a link in the story.
- coldkill3r, on 05/06/2009, -0/+44What'd you expect, a sniper that shoots flaming chainsaws?
- LibertyPrime, on 05/06/2009, -2/+45More like, VALVE > ALL FPS DEVELOPERS.
- zinc6471, on 05/06/2009, -1/+42go spy and rampage?
- levi88, on 05/06/2009, -0/+38Maybe he'll put on a Steve Irwin mask and "get closah".
- Griff431, on 05/06/2009, -0/+36This is comming from the same guys who replaced the Heavy's shotgun with a sandvich, and the scouts with a Soda Drink. Don't question Valve!
- RBobby, on 05/06/2009, -3/+36Sooo..... What is the update?
- joojoobomb, on 05/06/2009, -3/+35I've got $100 says it's a hunting rifle without a scope, a la M1 Garand.
Medium-high damage, not as accurate, 5 shot magazine.
I also have another $100 that says they ***** something up and have to revise it - TwwIX, on 05/06/2009, -0/+31I wouldn't mind a Boomerang upgrade/replacement for the Machete. One that decapitates.
- SirBrittanicus, on 05/06/2009, -1/+28Idk about you, but I'd keep away from a dude flailing around with a jar of piss. Just might work...
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/06/2009, -0/+24TF2 isn't anything like that. At all. If you want something like that go play Battlefield 2.
- eviljolly, on 05/06/2009, -0/+24"We want him to give up some of his primary advantage in return for something else"
I'm starting to think a non-scoped rifle, or maybe a semi-auto instead of a bolt action with no charged shots. - CalcProgrammer1, on 05/06/2009, -0/+22I got Orange Box for the good deal, never having played any of the games or Half Life or anything...now my Steam has Orange Box, CS:S, Garry's Mod, and I really like TF2. It's an awesome game, the class based gameplay is unique and fun.
- dasdef, on 05/06/2009, -0/+22THIS PLEASE
- Bigbuttlover, on 05/06/2009, -3/+24That was a joke...
- TheBifman, on 05/06/2009, -0/+20I've got $100 that says you at least break even.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/06/2009, -0/+20Sure it involves us. We just get to sit back and laugh at the people who bought the bad version.
- inactive, on 05/06/2009, -5/+25The scout update made all TF2 servers turn into quake for a week. This is just gonna be the worst when it comes out.
- cryonix, on 05/06/2009, -3/+22Given the amount he is putting down. he could either:
lose it all: loses $200;
win it all: additional $200;
win/lose: $0 break even;
Its not possible for him to lose only $100 given this situation. Unless he skips down out of fear that his bookie is going to break his legs...
Brought to you by BuzzKillington - glasnt, on 05/06/2009, -1/+20They're explaining their working towards the solution. The actual update will contain the solution. This is more Valve trying to tell us why it takes a month to even work out what to have in the Sniper pack. Give them another quarter and we'll have the update.
- nextekcarl, on 05/06/2009, -0/+19That would be true if TF2 was supposed to be a simulation of a real life battle. That even worked pretty decently in Tribes 2. But TF2 is more of a slightly comedic version of warfare, a bit tongue-in-cheek zaniness, not an accurate depiction. I usually prefer realistic games personally, but TF2 has its own style.
- Punkazz189, on 05/06/2009, -4/+23Why? So I can just start dodging those too while I am killing you?
- idc5, on 05/06/2009, -1/+20"When we started working on TF2, 22 years ago.."
- Silentnite85, on 05/06/2009, -3/+21Or what? You’ll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you? Well, go ahead—do your worst!
- Mnementh2230, on 05/06/2009, -0/+18I happen to LOVE my sandvich - I don't use the shotgun much anyway, and I love having the ability to retreat a bit and have a snack.
The philosophy is that you're giving up one tactical advantage (a backup weapon) for a different one (the ability to be invulnerable for a short while, or the ability to regenerate a bit of health). You have to change your play style a bit to accommodate this new ability, and THAT is what throws a lot of people - they keep playing like they still had the same loadout, and then get pissed when they don't have the same abilities. Its a trade-off, and you have to adapt to take advantage of it.
For example, when I'm playing scout and going primarily to kill other players, I stick with the pistol and the standard shotgun. If I'm going flag capping, I'll switch to the force-a-nature and the BONK! energy drink, because the new shotgun lets me move enemies, and the BONK! lets me get past turrets when I'm on my way into the base. I only rarely use the Sandman, mostly because of the lack of double-jump, which I abuse the hell out of as a scout. If I'm playing as a defensive scout, though, the Sandman is unbeatable for the ability to stun ubercharged heavies and intel cappers.
As a heavy, I found I never used the shotgun much anyway, so I got my sandvich and stuck with it. The KGB I pretty much stick with, too, as the guaranteed critical hits are just too cool to pass up. As for Natasha, I use her when I'm playing defense, the better to stop intel cappers. When I just want to kill things, though, I have to stick with Sasha, because the extra 25% damage is too good to leave behind.
Pick those items that benefit your play style, and use the rest for tactical advantage in different roles. If you can't find a use for them, you're not being creative enough. - Yeknom, on 05/06/2009, -0/+18I only had steam so when I got a 360 and saw that not only did I have to pay to play online, but pay for updates of a game I already bought, I said screw it. Valve has spoiled me into a PC gaming elitist... and I love it
- Yeknom, on 05/06/2009, -0/+18That's what sucks about releasing the updates one at a time. Everyone wants to play as with the new *****. That's when you use the opposing class to rape them.
- Mtown, on 05/06/2009, -1/+17I hope for the Demoman update they give you a full bottle of whiskey. You can drink it like the scout's soda, and when you drink it you take 75% less damage, but your vision is blurred, your have no crosshairs and accuracy is decreased. Also when you reload, you have a 25% chance to fumble one of your grenades and have it detonate at your feet.
- darkjolt, on 05/06/2009, -0/+15You're stupid.
- crazyhorse13, on 05/06/2009, -0/+15First of all, realism isn't usually fun. Especially modern bombing runs.
Second, how is a sniper screwed when you see him? You still can't really shoot him unless you're a sniper yourself. - 0firefly0, on 05/06/2009, -1/+16$1000 is way too much for a rig to play TF2.
- widgetmaker, on 05/06/2009, -0/+15Sniper rifle turned into a banana skin launcher that er..disables the opponent? to run with the food theme..
- rushiku, on 05/06/2009, -0/+14>loo w
You look West and see a Scout approaching.
>wea sni
You put on your Sniper hat and take aim.
>sho sco
You squeeze the trigger and hit the Scout in the forehead. He drops a Bottle of Soda.
>get sod
You pick up the Soda, Yum! - crazyhorse13, on 05/06/2009, -0/+14Lol. 360 doesn't have as much memory capacity, so they have to figure out how to slim the updates down.
- XBSHX, on 05/06/2009, -0/+13He has obviously already seen that.
