- basye, on 10/08/2008, -27/+173I dunno...that's one of those 'sacred' movie scenes.
- jsdratm, on 10/09/2008, -25/+132This just seems wrong. It is an interesting idea, but I can't laugh when I am thinking about the sacrifices made by people in World War 2.
- GumGuts, on 10/09/2008, -25/+88Man, that just... just hit some kind of limit or something, that kinda made me a little uncomfortable...
- untitlednet, on 10/09/2008, -17/+70Well that wasn't right.. What's next? TF2 meets Schindler's List?
- Jevy14, on 10/09/2008, -14/+56I agree, I am huge TF2 fan, but that made me a little uncomfortable
- webtickle, on 10/08/2008, -13/+55That was great. Everything was spot on. I love the Demoman and Pyro parts :)
- blizihizake, on 10/09/2008, -3/+35 Saving Private Ryan is the best WWII film I've ever seen, and the opening scene is the best opening scene of any war movie ever. I have nothing but tons of respect for our fallen soldiers. TONS of props to Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and even Ben Affleck and Vin Diesel. If there is one media pertaining to WWII that shouldn't be forgotten, let it be this movie (or Band of Brothers).
That said, if you take this as just a movie scene and not live footage of people getting shot, it becomes hard to ignore the attention to detail the editor made in this video. I laughed out loud several times and then thought it got old, then the ending came. I proceeded to laugh my arse off. - voomfoo, on 10/09/2008, -18/+46good game, good movie, bad video... meh.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -2/+29that time of the month again?
- noobpower2, on 10/09/2008, -18/+44so am i the only one who enjoyed this?
- jtbell04, on 10/09/2008, -4/+29If you think this is "wrong", you'd lose it watching Tropic Thunder.
Lighten up people, this is a scene from a movie (read - entertainment), redubbed in a humourous way. It's not like someone dressed up as a Scout and went to Arlington National Cemetery. - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -1/+26Of course it happened in real life. But, this is a scene from a movie.
- sedatedson, on 10/09/2008, -4/+28I know, let's play ***** of WWII video games that render the suffering of all the soldiers mere novelty, but then get offended at one rather mild attempt at making some scenes from a movie humorous.
- blackrage, on 10/09/2008, -23/+47Whats next *****?
Dubbing R Kelly's "I believe I can fly" over 911 jumpers?
I love TF2...don't ruin it for me. - FTLJohnson, on 10/09/2008, -2/+24Someone said it below... and I'll paraphrase... It's the sounds of a game dubbed over the audio from a movie. Seriously... If this were audio added to ACTUAL war footage or violence, I'd feel differently... but It's not. It's two forms of entertainment. I think those that are uncomfortable about this are being a little hypocritical. Especially if you found both of the things entertaining... (Saving Private Ryan, and TF2) as I did, and do.
- Popeiler, on 10/09/2008, -7/+27Lots of things were sacred, then 4chan happened.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -19/+38What's with all the sensitivity on Digg right now? It's a scene from a movie, lol. Not real footage.
- Trebis, on 10/09/2008, -3/+20I got really excited as I read the title...I thought it was the new "Meet the..." video.
- pclstyle, on 10/09/2008, -3/+19what, "DOMINATING!!" @ 1:15 wasn't amusing to you?
- mrCdawg, on 10/09/2008, -3/+19Very cool, but I challenge someone to create this scene in TF2 and add the voices from the movie.
- apheleon, on 10/09/2008, -4/+20how dare they dishonor vin diesel
- FTLJohnson, on 10/09/2008, -5/+21If you can handle it in the game, you should be able to handle it in a movie. I think it makes for an interesting commentary on two very different portrayals of war violence. While it probably wasn't intended to do so, it's REALLY interesting to see one juxtaposed on top of the other.
Oh, and it was funny. Lighten up. - Suprfire, on 10/09/2008, -1/+16From a TF2 Player, Woooow that was great. Very Funny (aside from the whole- ok, this is a honorable scene thing)
- plundstedt, on 10/09/2008, -29/+44Very poor taste.
- Renton, on 10/09/2008, -2/+15Welcome to the internet.
- kowcun, on 10/09/2008, -27/+40This is probably one of the worst ways to dishonor and desecrate a memory of fallen soldiers.
- Flashtone, on 10/08/2008, -6/+18Yes.
- ulmedas, on 10/09/2008, -2/+14No way. I thought is was amazing and slightly amusing.
- androothebear, on 10/09/2008, -0/+11Tell me about it. Not once did they use "Need a dispenser here!"
- shadydentist, on 10/09/2008, -13/+23Its a movie. Its not like this was edited over people actually dying. And this is old news.
- FTLJohnson, on 10/09/2008, -3/+13Being depressed, or shocked, or MOVED EMOTIONALLY, is a FORM of ENTERTAINMENT.
It's was a movie... which people pay to go to be entertained. Entertainment does not equal humor,
and people who don't appreciate cringe humor typically are hypocrites.
To quote one of the best cringe humorists
"I hope you slip and fall into a puddle of AIDS sir"
-Lil' Jimmy Norton - Jevy14, on 10/09/2008, -2/+12ummmmmmm.................you know thats not vietnam right...............OOOHHH, I see what you did there.
- LucasVB, on 10/09/2008, -0/+9Putting the sounds of a game over footage of a fictional film about a non-fictional war?
Oookay then. - jtbell04, on 10/09/2008, -3/+12So anything that stirs up emotion is "sacred" and can't have humour drawn from it, or only when it's you who has the emotional response?
I've seen the Band of Brothers series a least a half-dozen times and each time it elicits a strong response from me, but that doesn't prevent me from laughing my ass off at this:
http://operationcovertclown.ytmnd.com/
Everyone here claiming this is "sacred" needs to learn to separate the sad from the funny. - LucasVB, on 10/09/2008, -2/+10No you're not. I think it's pretty pathetic that people are getting bitchy about this. Look, it's Team Fortress 2.
This is a game where brutal killing is made fun of all the time. Why isn't THAT offensive? Why isn't GTA offensive to anyone who lost someone in a car accident or a hit and run? We're comfortable with death in several levels on TV, film and games. If you want to be offended, be offended by that. Not because some kid slapped TF2 sounds over a fiction movie.
I hate people who get offended with stupid double standards. There are more important things to worry about in life, you idiots. - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8Aren't diggers normally bitching about how everything is so PC these days?
- dhVyse, on 10/09/2008, -4/+12Nothing is sacred to the internets.
http://www.theburningbiscuit.com/Pictures%20for%20 ... - Mujokan, on 10/09/2008, -2/+10Yes, it's not documentary footage, contrary maybe to what people assume.
I played Medal of Honor and died about 12 times in a row trying to get out of the boat. That wasn't exactly honoring anyone's sacrifice either. - SceptreData, on 10/09/2008, -3/+10That would be awesome.
- FoxtrotYankee, on 10/09/2008, -7/+14Yeah, while watching it, I felt as if I should be offended...
...except I wasn't and the video was hilarious! Humor = Pain + Distance.
I suppose one of the freedoms they died to protect was the freedom to freely enjoy humor that others might find to be in bad taste. Do you realize how much smoother life would be if we all stopped being offended at everything that didn't line up with our own individual sensibilities? - jtbell04, on 10/09/2008, -2/+8Yeah, I bet the $450,000,000 this movie made went straight to the veterans.
Chill the ***** out, it's a movie. - spammishking, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7no there are a ton of others, just spend some time on the internet and you'll find them
- MechaFalcon, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Yeah, complete with Tom Hanks and all!
- mannymix03, on 10/09/2008, -4/+9i felt bad laughing, but i'm not going to deny that I did.
- bmystry, on 10/09/2008, -4/+9While it might make some people including myself a little uncomfortable I can't speak badly about the guy that made this because it took some effort to make and it was actually pretty well done.
- pood, on 10/09/2008, -3/+8oh my LOL, the guy that made this is a genious.
lol most with the ammo and the sniper - ultraJesus, on 10/09/2008, -1/+6You have to admit the guy had a good attention to detail.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5So what do you think of the mountain of WWII games we have today? Or hell, what about Saving Private Ryan itself - which was basically just cashing in on the sacrifices soldiers made during WWII?
- 2Bnor2B, on 10/09/2008, -1/+6I felt even worse. As I watched it with all the TF2 effects playing in the background, I kept coming up with ideas for a map design involving the storming of a bunker. Sorry.
