- Ragarnok, on 10/10/2009, -1/+18It does puzzle me that a game could be superior to the movies it's based on (I'm not referring to the original 3)
Altho in this particular case I think the main sticking point for Star wars was discovering it's universe, and a game such as this one sounds like a great way to explore that universe - nortel, on 10/10/2009, -0/+12I wonder how big it will really be as far as the grand scope is concerned?? Will we have the whole city to explore?
- catalysis, on 10/10/2009, -0/+11SWG was released 7 years ago. Apples and oranges. Besides, Bioware is using a rapid development framework whereas SWG was built from the ground up.
- TheEggAndI, on 10/10/2009, -1/+6i dont see the appeal of trying to fly in space. but then again, i never really liked any star wars game that had you flying/fighting in space. after a while its like trying to shoot at a grey dot on a black background. starwars battlefront 2 was the only game where it was tolerable, but even then i never really enjoyed it.
i played WoW for a good 5-6 months and while it was a beautiful brilliant massive game, i quit because i couldnt stand the community anymore. no one wants to team and they treat you like an idiot for not knowing every little detail, and they dont bother to help you. i got tired of grinding to 80 alone, i play an MMO to play with other people. although someone once told me that the PVP servers are full of a lot more ***** than the PVE servers. but after a while, the game felt like more of an obligation than fun, and thats what really drove me away from it.
so i hope SWTOR distances itself from some of these flaws. obviously there isnt much the bioware can do to control what kind of community it is. but when a game, like WoW, is so indepth and involved, to the point where people invest a ridiculous amount of time into it, it seems to attract more *****. i hope this isnt the case for TOR, i hope this game is as accessible to casual gamers as it is to hardcore gamers. - maskedform, on 10/11/2009, -0/+5LOL! Good luck in torrenting a MMORPG.
- Leezus, on 10/10/2009, -1/+6Man, I feel bad for the makers of Star Wars Galaxies and SoE. Having to look at what they could have done and failed to. Its gotta sting a little.
- givemesnow, on 10/10/2009, -2/+6Sir, you are have absolutely no ***** idea what you are talking about. As someone else stated, SWG was released 7 years ago. In their fine words: Apples & orange. Please stick to playing the games, instead of pouring critical analysis on them out of your ass.
- blueduck4ever, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4The other videos of this game make it look like a KOTOR you can play with a group of friends. Which sounds great to me.
- MSUKate, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4Okay, side note: what was that guy wearing for a shirt? (about 1:00 in) Was it me, or was that disturbing.
- Bobby1978, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4Looked like a Jedi uniform from the Jedi Knight games.
- vr121, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3we'd better be able to explore entire planets and fly ships in space...if they want to compete with WoW...hope its not like Galaxies!!
- wilf_brim, on 10/10/2009, -1/+4I have great hopes for this game, but there have been plenty of developers and development houses who have fallen on their own swords when it came to Star Wars games. Galaxies immediately comes to mind.
I wonder if Bioware wouldn't have been better off sticking with their own Mass Effect IP and going that route with a MMO. If they even should have developed an MMO. I think they should stay with what they are good at: story driven single player RPGs and RPG hybrids. - Airbear007, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2Haha wow dude really? Your going to torrent a MMORPG? Let me know how that works out for you! ha
- Spire3660, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Really? Mass Effect is one of the best 'movie-games' ive ever played. It takes a significant leap to go from normal RPG ish game to an epic cinematic adventure.
- Gloogle, on 10/11/2009, -0/+2No, it's a citizen from Coruscant suit, it helps him get in character when designing levels.
- blueduck4ever, on 10/10/2009, -0/+1This game looks a lot more friend based then what wow is now.
- Bobby1978, on 10/10/2009, -1/+2You're right in that this won't be Galaxies. Exploration for example will be significantly limited compared to what players experienced with SWG. Rather than allow players free reign over where they go over the whole planet, most of the explorable world in TOR will be hidden away from players, mainly through missions and quests. Some worlds will not even be accessible to certain players. All this is to ensure that players are kept in a state of constant enticement, as these areas will open up via missions/quests as they progress. Exploration of the likes of SWG and other open-ended games will almost certainly not exist here, as that's not 'heroic' enough. Expect lots of instanced rooms/locations/dungeons.
If all this sounds familiar, it should. The same formula is being used in this game as it was for the single-player KOTOR games, just with a multiplayer dimension to it. - FortheBest101, on 10/17/2009, -0/+1Does anybody else see Atlantis (Stargate) at 5:20.... speaking of stargate what ever happened to stargate worlds
- Spire3660, on 10/10/2009, -0/+1Its heavily instanced? I cant stand that. If you cant do a huge seamless world like WoW, dont bother shipping. CHampions Online was so disgustingly instanced i never even finished my first month. Anyone can make a game and chop it up into little pieces.
- jakebacon, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1The Wacom tablet at 1:47...Look at the size of that thing!
- paulbobrookins, on 10/16/2009, -0/+1Since there aren't too many comments here yet, I went against my better judgment, and looked at the youtube comments. There had to be some insight among people who were interested in TOR, even on youtube, right?
Well...

"omg you are an jack ass star awrs menas a realy cool film/game and yeah star wars means wars in the stars/space"
I've officially given up hope on all youtube threads. - Bobby1978, on 10/10/2009, -2/+2It won't lag because a lot of the good areas will be instanced. Absolute free exploration ala SWG will not exist here. Thus it won't lag.
- quixand, on 10/10/2009, -2/+2@Bobby1978
You clearly don't know what you're talking about.
The game is open world. If you can see it, you can get to it.
Don't believe this fool. - givemesnow, on 10/10/2009, -1/+0Why do you idiots keep comparing this to SWG? Here's a copy & paste of the same thing I said to another dumbass who was making commentary but clearly had no idea what he was talking about:
'Sir, you are have absolutely no ***** idea what you are talking about. As someone else stated, SWG was released 7 years ago. In their fine words: Apples & orange. Please stick to playing the games, instead of pouring critical analysis on them out of your ass.' - Crashwithuhk, on 10/10/2009, -5/+3I'm sort of it in the same boat. BioWare is great at what they do, and I'm sure it'll be a fun game but with every video this game looks and feels less like they're drawing inspiration from the original films and more from the new ones. That's not the style of Star Wars universe I want to play in.
Just makes me wish BioWare set their Star Wars games during the civil war from the very start. Setting it thousands of years before the movies has done nothing but slowly rid it of any Star Wars mood. - Bobby1978, on 10/10/2009, -5/+1>>I wonder how big it will really be as far as the grand scope is concerned??
Small in terms of explorable terrain, since they will likely save the interesting parts for instanced missions/quests. Large in terms of scope, since what is available will be high in variety, so it will seem like it's 'grand' although it really isn't.
>>Will we have the whole city to explore?
No. Exploration will not be what you expect from other games. In SWG and UO for example, players are given absolute free reign over exploration. In this game, expect instanced rooms/dungeons/locals. You'll have to 'explore' those areas (through missions/quests) the same way you 'explore' one of those Disney attractions. A train ride through a haunted mansion for example. - CourageWulf, on 10/10/2009, -10/+5As a Star Wars Galaxies vet I will tell you that this zone will lag like a bitch. Also, a lot of the same developers and the exec producer are the ones who started at SWG. I'm hoping this game is awesome but the first few months will be a bug fest.
- givemesnow, on 10/11/2009, -6/+0Yes, really. Shut the ***** up.
- givemesnow, on 10/10/2009, -8/+0You all dugg me down yesterday, but my wish was granted. More news on The Old Republic, less about ***** Effect 2 (Mass Effect 2).

- MaxMyers, on 10/10/2009, -19/+3The more I see of this game the less interested I am of it.
