- bennyshoham, on 06/24/2009, -4/+55I liked the CGI scenes better. Can they skip making the game and just give us those?
- larryjr88, on 06/24/2009, -14/+57Welcome to WoW with a Star Wars skin.
They should have just made a new game similar to SWG. - TobiasParker, on 06/24/2009, -2/+36That was a cinematic, i.e. a movie.
- zzzpoohzzz, on 06/24/2009, -10/+43world of star warcraft
- suntzusputnik, on 06/24/2009, -3/+28This is the Alpha build
- FTWmovin2canada, on 06/24/2009, -6/+31I know, WTF are they thinking having an alpha version that isn't highly polished...
/s - ontain, on 06/24/2009, -0/+22Those might be ingame but they aren't gameplay. I'd expect to see a HUD
- M3tALHaz3, on 06/24/2009, -22/+40Wow this game looks NOTHING like I thought it was going to look.
What happened to all the badassness from that E3 trailer??! - Awezing, on 06/24/2009, -3/+21You could have tried harder.
- theworldisflat, on 06/24/2009, -1/+18This is just a mashup of alpha scenes from various webisodes and blogs that the devs are doing set to some music. This is a far cry from the final product. It does already have a very KOTR feel, and being the huge SW geek that I am (+1 automatically for not being an SOE game). I don't forsee Bioware making a sub-par game by any stretch of the imagination.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -4/+20Meh...just another MMO. Let me guess, you will have to grind through Jawas until you can level up.
- KrisStrong, on 06/24/2009, -26/+41I'm not going to mess with this fotage crap.... Let me know when you have some footage.
- thenoxx, on 06/24/2009, -3/+17Great, another game where lightsabers aren't swords that cut, they're glowy batons that slightly burn things with sparks. ***** this.
- Dustin00, on 06/24/2009, -5/+17Goddammit! I'm sick of Ogrimar.
- VinnieDaMac, on 06/24/2009, -1/+13World of Starwarscraft
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -0/+12Funny thing is today Bioware "merged" with Mythic Entertainment, were one only did RPG's and the other only MMO, im wondering were this is gonna head.
anyway this is probably pre-alpha footage, there still a long way to get the deed done. - rheaume, on 06/24/2009, -6/+17Looks like WoW
- diggduggDOOM, on 06/24/2009, -5/+16I find your overabundance of faith disturbing.
- Roguecop, on 06/24/2009, -1/+12This is pretty much all old footage. Some of it nearly a year old, There is nothing new here, just everything that has been released cobbled together with old Star Wars library music,
And would people ixnay on every f----g MMORPG thing that comes along looking like WoW. It doesn't look like WoW, no more than it looks like other games of this generation of graphics technology. 'OMG it's got trees and water and ruins and giant statues, it looks like WoW.' Shaddup, yeah. - esfisher, on 06/24/2009, -8/+18Seriously, they should just say "Blizzard, here's a bunch of money, make us a Star Wars MMO"
- Dustin00, on 06/24/2009, -0/+10Womprats first, I would think.
(or whatever they're called) - DeadlyAlpaca, on 06/24/2009, -0/+10And this is freaking Alpha footage.
- jsplat24, on 06/24/2009, -2/+11I loved KOTOR 1 and 2 so I'm looking forward to this one. Looks great for an alpha build imo.
- RyanBlueThunder, on 06/24/2009, -0/+9@chongli: Mass Effect 1 & 2 are not Bioware Austin. Different dev team. Different type of game world. One is open and MMO, another is a static world with narrowly confined paths.
- kdmkdmkdm, on 06/24/2009, -3/+12Interesting Fotage.
- muzfuz, on 06/24/2009, -2/+11i'm psyched about this game. But sadly will not be able to play it. I own a mac.
:( - eatinshramps, on 06/24/2009, -1/+10*points and laughs*
- lothar250, on 06/24/2009, -4/+12All those colors! My eyes are burning!!
No, seriously, it has a very WoWish look. - Fleagleman, on 06/24/2009, -0/+8You know, that sounds pretty good.
I have no interest in WoW, but like the overall gameplay. Just not interested in the theme. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so actually that sounds just right. - chibihoho, on 06/24/2009, -2/+10But SWG kinda sucked.
- infango, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7but please no jar jar binks
- Kardall, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7SWG was fine until SoE bought it. Then it plummeted.
After all of the knocking of WoW in these threads, people don't understand that ... 10million+ people is more than necessary to keep the game running, therefore, it doesn't suck. Enough people like it to play it, that's all they need.
Now if Bioware doesn't screw this game up, it will probably be right up there in popularity. For a good year, everyone and their dog who loves star wars is going to buy and play this game. After that, it's up to the developers. Almost every person that tries a new MMO gives it 3-6 months to sink in. First month is you learning the ropes, how things work, how to quest/kill and maybe even craft a bit. 2-3 is either you trying out other classes, or just trying to level up, maybe find a guild/clan etc. in that time frame, so you can continue on afterward. - Fleagleman, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7Like the consistency of the title. If the video says "fotage", then my title says "fotage"
- kiffar, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8Not sick enough since you can't spell it correctly :P
- Jeepy, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8I know it's been said already but devs need to accept that WoW is the goliath of MMOs and not be afraid to try something different instead of riding coattails. Other than that showing game play "footage" of an MMO is kind of pointless since the way the game looks has nothing to do with how it plays. Without showing what the display layout looks like, inventory mechanics, skill to item dynamics, force power stats, etc. it just becomes a city/creature model demo.
- veskris, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7Since when did cinematics ever look anywhere like the gameplay footage? The point of them is to generate hype further than what stock footage of MMO gameplay would bring.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8oh my god the CGI highly polished trailer is better looking than the alpha footage of the game!?
- ThraxyWaxy, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6They should make a new star wars movie with this quality of CG and action instead of that crap clone wars movie that came out last year.
- chunkybeefstu, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6I'm not as excited about this game as I was a couple months ago.
But come on, this looks decent for a game in its early alpha stages. - diggduggDOOM, on 06/24/2009, -1/+7You wish! Jawas are at least second or third grinding group. You'll be slaying womp rats at level 1, without the aid of a T-16 (that's a minimum level 10 and 1000 space credits).
Edit: Dustin00 beat me to it. - rocknog, on 06/24/2009, -1/+7If it weren't for the cheat code in Jedi Outcast/Academy, I don't think we'd ever have a Star Wars game where the lightsaber acted properly, killing stormtroopers simply by brushing against them and whatnot. Speaking of which, we need a goddamn sequel already. Can't imagine how awesome it'd be with a game engine written in this decade.
Personally, I think part of the problem is that developers haven't worked out a way to properly balance the idea of one-hit instant death with actually providing challenging gameplay. Personally, it just seems like laziness to me. I think I have a way, though, to properly balance gameplay. First off, like the movies, a couple of solid blaster hits oughta take down a Jedi. This way, blocking will be an important part of Jedi strategy. And while a couple of stormtroopers might not pose too much of a threat, a larger group could easily be deadly. And for other lightsaber-wielding enemies, you have to make combat focus more on getting past their defenses, so that they can still pose a challenge even if a single hit can decapitate them. It seems to me that a lot of developers overlook the importance of blocking to the gameplay, and as a result need to give enemies high health to compensate and make the game challenging. If the player were easy to kill but could stay alive by blocking, the gameplay could be both challenging and realistic. - Smokeythebandit, on 06/24/2009, -3/+8Looked pretty good, till the characters started having seizures to opera music at the end.
- zzzpoohzzz, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5meh i'm not even making fun of it... i'm gonna buy the damn game anyways... star wars in a WoW setting? yeah i'll take that
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -1/+6That's kind of disappointing.
- diggduggDOOM, on 06/24/2009, -1/+6Don't get your hopes too high. BioWare has a solid rep, but my years of following MMOs has taught me that alpha/beta is rarely radically different from release.
- emomakesmecry, on 06/24/2009, -1/+6I really hope they decide NOT to make all the characters look all cartoony at some point in the developing process. Also, what's up with everybody's ridiculously long scrawny legs?
- Cathalk, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5WoW + Star Wars.
That's not such a bad concept. - Arseny89, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5This MMO is based on the KotOR series which were also "3D text-based MUD that takes no skill to hit your target, everything is based on rolls of the dice." This particular series was never about fast game play or shooting anything. I don't know why you're assuming that anything that doesn't have twitch reflex game play is a step back, its just a completely different genre of game. BTW, the first KotOR game garnered more critical acclaim and higher ratings than any Mass Effect game ever will, I think that just goes to show you that "turn-based, unskilled gameplay" doesn't instantly make a game trash.
- Cathalk, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4Then key your spells to 4 and 5.
- Falcker, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4So you want a weapon that instant kills everything in a MMO to make it live up to the standards in your mind?
Sounds like a plan. -
