- veins, on 11/10/2009, -2/+76is it just me or did that look very 5 years ago.
- LiquidIse, on 11/10/2009, -3/+46This background ad is miserable.
- anagoge, on 11/10/2009, -2/+32I was hoping this would deliver. It didn't.
And oh look, another stupid background ad on Digg. - AngryDeuce, on 11/09/2009, -0/+29I'm a hard core Trekkie, been a fan since I was literally 5 years old when I first saw The Wrath of Khan, and I gotta be honest, this game scares me. It could be awesome, but given what huge piles of ***** most Star Trek games are, it could also be pretty damn bad. Hopefully they'll have an open beta...
- benmandude, on 11/10/2009, -2/+24Stop the ads Dragon Age, I have already bought you.
- ASSASSYN360, on 11/10/2009, -0/+15I agree. I thought it was just me. They need to seriously update those graphics.
- yournamehere, on 11/10/2009, -2/+16you mean - vigorously .. probably why you didnt get the job
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2009, -1/+15All MMOs do.
- PFS1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13Forget this MMO crap- what we need is a single-player follow up to FreeSpace. That game was well ahead of its time and I'd love to see what the makers could do with modern graphics and physics capabilities.
- Spanq, on 11/10/2009, -0/+11I love how these massive ships just vanish and a tiny, horrible-looking explosion takes their place. What a piece of *****.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+10Cryptic needs to stop making trailers of explosions and start making trailers of actual gameplay. There's no way that in game action can come close to the movies but that's what everyone will compare it to. They need to emphasize why the game will be interesting, get in to the bridge officers or the episode concept for quests. Stuff like the massive amount of ship customization and why land battles will be interesting.
- kingfoot, on 11/10/2009, -1/+11Looks very boring. Definitely would like to try it out because of the trekkie inside me, but being the add fast paced gamer i am, i can find myself getting very bored of standing there, and shooting a phaser all the time.
- raydeen, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8Probably because being massively multiplayer, the detail has to be toned down a bit to accommodate the greater number of on screen characters at any given time than what would typically be in a single player game. Since the game world isn't as scripted and set in stone as a single player game, the devs have to make allowances for the possibility that there could be dozens if not hundreds of characters and creatures swarming an area at any given moment.
- antoniuk, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8Yet another rushed out fail of a MMO
- ryancawdor, on 11/10/2009, -0/+733 seconds into the clip before anything resembling "gameplay" is shown.
And yeah, MMOs thrive primarily on combat, but that's NOT what the Star Trek universe has as its main focus. Maybe that's why most of the Star Trek games have sucked. - TheFounder, on 11/10/2009, -1/+8It's fitting that it is coming from Atari --- because that game looks like it belongs on a 2600
- ParticleMan420, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6because microsoft wont let them, or sets too many limitations. or gamers dont want to pay for internet access, then xbox access, then mmo access
- ASSASSYN360, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5You can sign up for the beta...right now.
- Philbert, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4What we need is a Firefly game.
- Zarimus, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Star Trek as a shoot-em-up combat game, meh. Drop the lens flare and zap-pow ray beams and show me what you plan for the rest of the game... if there is anything.
- utopiannative, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4adblock plus - right click - block fram
doesn't fix the shrunken comment section though.
digg needs to pay it's bills, i guess, though doing it this way is insulting - TwwIX, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4"To beam down on this planet you will have to purchase a clearance from the Cryptic Store"
- bubbameister33, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Farscape MMO, please.
- Alienrace, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Wow, it took you most of middle school just to do that?
- o76923, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Why the hell is it all combat in the trailer? Wasn't one of the best parts of Trek that it was going out to explore the galaxy? We had a cowboy trying to scrape by and survive, then we had a diplomat trying to peacefully resolve whatever he can, then we had a long trip home against all odds. None of those were particularly notorious for epic space battles.
- saxquiz, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4Star Trek is all about cool concepts and ideas. I don't see how a good video game can be made from the Star Trek universe.
- Tyrghast, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Star Trek: Armada was excellent. I wasted most of middle school racing to build a borg transwarp gate and port 3 cubes into the enemy base to wreck shop.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Take a look at some of the info, Cryptic's done a lot of work to make the combat interesting. Much more so than EVE's click and wait.
- Alienrace, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Eve Online has the benefit of not very cpu-heavy environments. Most them are just a big ol' sphere with a space texture slapped on it.
- CrimsonBlur, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Yeah but it's a closed Beta so all you can do is hope they accept you into it, as opposed to an open beta which is, you know, open to everyone.
- ASSASSYN360, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4True. Aaaaaaaaa Dragon age ads aaaaaaaaaaaa!
- jj101, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Good point. Why is that?
- swizzcheez, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3meh...
No, I take that back... blech... - AdmiralKarelia, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Yes. Star Trek: The 25th Anniversary, on DOS. Awesome game, and focused more on puzzles than direct combat action.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Feb 2nd.
- Sirlolalot, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2add this to your FF filter http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/*
& use fanboys element-hider filter too http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/
May need to restart FF, refresh page for it to work. - mmx2000, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2These graphics look pretty awesome to me, they really seem to be pushing the limits of the N64!
- Slackdragon, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Eve online has some of the slickest graphics going in an MMO. And with the Dominion update Dec. 1st, it's going to look even more amazing.
Though it's not a particularly fast-paced game, it is steady and even with a very distant "end-game" which is what an MMO should be.
Even with all that, Eve isn't everyone's cup of tea, for sure. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2It's not open yet, just closed. Did you play Bridge Commander? It was very well done and STO looks to take the best of it.
- kilsekddd, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2/snore
- Virgule, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2It's more of a "please buy me" montage than "gameplay trailer" :(
- RANDOM667, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Now that they have this game almost done they need to go back and rebuild the whole thing using the Unreal engine.
The graphics look like they are from 5 years ago. - daviz0, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3looks good. looks like I will be getting my sci-fi mmo fix from instead of stargate worlds although im still hopefully that stargate will eventually be released
- eastwoodclint, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Looks very average. Graphics look 2 generations old. How embarrassing.
- Gagege, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2more explosions != more fun
- Tyrghast, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2MMOs will never be top notch in the graphics department. The goal is to get thousands to millions of people playing together, and to do that you have to make sure the game will run on whatever ***** e-machine you can buy at Wal-Mart.
There are a few exceptions: A couple years ago CCP recognized that EvE was beginning to look very dated, and released new textures for all of their ships. They gave you the option of playing with the old textures or the new ones, neither would hamper your ability to play the game.
WoW also has made great leaps in visuals since the release of it's latest expansion. Every aspect of the graphics quality can be managed by a dozen slider bars, and you can play anywhere from nearly wireframe to very hi-res (the key to getting maximum performance and maximum looks though is turning everything on the highest setting and then dropping your view distance as low as you can). - Browndecrypt, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2I have one request, and one request alone:
Character emote: /khan - Alienrace, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Yes except it turns out that you won't share the bridge with other players like they promised at first.
Each ship = one player = lame. - inactive, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2If it focused on exploration rather than combat, I would probably be stoked. But instead of going where no man has gone before, star trek online is heading to where everyone has already been for the last 10 years.
- adml_shake, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Star Trek has had a few gems in all the mud. Bridge Commander, Elite Force (1), and the Armada Games. But the majority of games did suck pretty bad. But I have to admit, so far I'm liking what I see in the game.
