- raleel, on 06/29/2009, -0/+47On launch day, I would like a giant container ship of boxes of Starcraft 2 to show up on a dock and broadcast from speakers
"Carrier has Arrived"
I think that might be the best thing ever - VinnieDaMac, on 06/29/2009, -1/+31Is it pathetic that this is one of the only things I have to look forward to in life? :(
....the other being Diablo 3. - xlilxthix, on 06/29/2009, -0/+20I hope they are mindful of the specific release dates of all the games. If they hit around midterms/finals, Im pretty sure several undergrads/high school students will be failing classes.
- brassknizz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+19My wife for hire!
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+16The Starcraft 2 battle reports are great. Blizzard is fine tuning the game to allow for the extremely competitive play that made the original game so successful. I think this game will eventually have the same pro-gamer appeal as the first.
- improvono, on 06/29/2009, -0/+15They won't be the only ones affected. I'll probably find myself unemployed shortly after this game comes out.
- tonychenyj, on 06/29/2009, -0/+11Same here, but I prefer Diablo 3 more... can't wait for play that.
- ganglartoronto, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10Same here. For now I'm playing cnc tiberium wars
- geoken, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9How do measles make a person less likely to want Starcraft?
- milkmage, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10 think you mean "my life for aiur"
- DrDragun, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9Warcraft 3 has much more micro than SC - each unit type has 2-3 active abilities. The problem with that game is that it plays way too slow. I still love playing the custom maps (dota) and occasionally ladder, but there is far too much time spent creeping with your hero and stuff. I have to be in the mood for a slow rpg game. I love the art style of that game though - the graphics are the predecessor to WoW and there are so many types of creeps and tilesets.
SC2 is a totally different animal, I agree with you in that sense. - VinnieDaMac, on 06/29/2009, -0/+8Blizzard games sell themselves.
- Pyros7, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7They need to release more battle reports, preferably something that showcases the more advanced tech units than they have been.
- RSS14, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7My greatest fear is that Blizzard will make SC2 like Warcraft 3. Without the micro, without the macro, Starcraft II will just be Warcraft in space.
I still have faith in Blizzard though. - CrazyEddie041, on 06/29/2009, -1/+7No gameplay footage?
:( - CrazyEddie041, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6This is not WarCraft in space! It's much more... sophisticated!
- cJw314, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6They've said many, many times that SC is about the macro and not "war3 in space".
- ThraxyWaxy, on 06/29/2009, -1/+6"My Wife For Hire"
- darkNiGHTS, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5Computer vendors and Microsoft are going to love blizzard for this. This means that Korea will have to upgrade tens thousands of computers to be able to play this game. And you know they will.
- brassknizz, on 06/29/2009, -1/+6No beta yet then?
*twitch* - cJw314, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5I think the following in Korea would cement it into the pro scene regardless. Hell, the game could exclude replays and it would still succeed.
- n4tune8, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Sad! very sad.
- tgc1, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Starcraft 2 sells itself. It's not mighty-putty.
- billricardi, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Wow, I'm loving the different ebbs and flows that you can chose for your resource gathering based on which gatherers you use. Destructible environments too! I was more excited about the new Diablo, but even reading about the new Starcraft gets me excited about the prospect of a fast paced RTS from a company who gives a damn about their user base!
- Crazymaniacc, on 06/29/2009, -3/+7I heard StarCraft II won't have LAN playability, what has gotten into them?
- cJw314, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Ok, I stand corrected; this isn't the model. Apparently, it's more along the lines of the Brood Wars/XP release logic, with a continued/epic single player campaign.
- milkmage, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3... from the teamliquid forum (posted by bockit)
Might want to mention about the lan thing, something that I am not sure other reports have covered is the way they phrased it. LAN is out because of some of the bnet features they can't discuss yet. Maybe it's just me but I'm holding out hope they aren't this stupid and have some kind of alternative.
EDIT: To clarify my above comment, the move to have SC2 multiplayer be played entirely on BNet was based on some of the planned technology to be incorporated into BNet, which they (Blizzard) can't release yet.Last edit: 2009-06-29 16:52:13 - cJw314, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Duh, why bother? They can control their content on BNET.
- stuffradio, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Damn Blizzard, they'll probably be stealing around $100 from most of the diggers who want to buy SCII and Diablo III
Why do they have to make games we want so bad! :( - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2I just hope they actually utilize their online store during a release!
When they released WotLK, it took them months to make it available for digital purchase. Not that I care about having to go to a store to pick it up, but it's just more convenient. - TabDelineated, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Blizzard has been hard at work balancing and making final touches and tweeks to make it an awesome game. bear in mind that blizzard wants to make this good as a both a single player RTS (like SC1 and WC3) and as a multiplayer game that can be played in tournies everywhere (like DOTA and SC1)
- r00fus, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2En Taro Tassadar!... how much?
- DrDragun, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2That's fair to say position micro is more critical in SC than WC3 but that's more a result of units dying faster / combat happens faster. Combat in WC3 is slow so there is more time to adjust/retreat. Every RTS game since like 1998 has automatic army formations, I don't think they will skip it for SC2.
- RSS14, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Almost every unit in Starcraft has a special ability . . .
There is a reason Starcraft is played in esports, it actually takes skill. You have to micromanage your melee units forwards, and ranged back, for example. Warcraft 3 does this for you automatically. - VigRoco, on 06/29/2009, -2/+4SupCom 2
- Jhiaxuz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1For as long as I remember, SC always had the burden of being called WC in space so I don't see this analogy as being anything new.
- Awezing, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1You sir, are the almost the most misinformed individual I've ever known.
- ichbinladen, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2Never much cared for Star Craft, it was just Warcraft in space to me, but I'm excited about Star Craft II. Looks badass!
- r00fus, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1LAN (ie, low-latency direct connection) games are a must, can you imagine lag killing the korean tournaments?
I honestly think ROK will mandate Blizzard to provide some semblance of this feature or there will be riots there :-)
Most likely, this just means BNet is an auth-server, which (occasionally) validates authentication for what would otherwise be LAN games. I can't imagine Blizzard actually wanting to pay for all that traffic, but I can imagine they want to make sure all players are using an authorized copy (which is needed to login to BNet). - thizzlebot, on 06/29/2009, -2/+2Maybe that we live in ***** 2009 and everyone has highspeed.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+0Without the micro? Haven't you watched any SC2 matches?
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+0Maybe to stop piracy...
- energyx, on 06/29/2009, -1/+0it is.
because i know. - PowderedToasty, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1Close! very close.
- energyx, on 06/29/2009, -1/+0dont give them any ideas
- bar10dr, on 06/29/2009, -4/+2How did they manage to use 7 years developing a game with almost no changes?
And they want us to pay for it three times because they added a little more story... uhm, no thanks. -
