- fluidfoundation, on 05/05/2009, -0/+29kinda was hoping for more on the aliens one. damn. Good job on blade runner though!
- mediaphile, on 05/06/2009, -0/+25The artwork and modeling in these are amazing. But my biggest pet peeve with 3d artists is that they never want to allow their scenes to fall into enough shadow for it to be realistic. These all look like HDR images.
Compare the Bladerunner scene to the screenshots from the movie:

It's shadows that make things look convincing, not shiny surfaces reflecting lighting. - thisisparta, on 05/06/2009, -1/+26Yes, but can it run crysis?
- manmademark, on 05/05/2009, -0/+23Man, this reminds me of the old Bladerunner game. That game was up there with kings quest under a killing moon ect... How I miss that *****.

- nixpix66, on 05/06/2009, -0/+13I really want to watch Blade Runner now.
- Lordrust, on 05/06/2009, -0/+12This makes me wish there was a blade runner game,,,and then I remembered there was in '97
- DamnMan, on 05/06/2009, -0/+12R.I.P Westwood Studios.
- inactive, on 05/06/2009, -0/+11I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
- cynicalbrit94, on 05/06/2009, -0/+11I hate it because I am jealous. The Bladerunner entry is amazing.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/06/2009, -0/+10the CryEngine is just incredible...the way it renders ambient lighting and shadows is stunning.
- PolkinhajIsGod, on 05/06/2009, -1/+9A number of these are made using the Unreal 3 engine as well.

- jasonh1234, on 05/06/2009, -0/+7I still have that game. Feel like playing it now.
- nutzngum, on 05/06/2009, -0/+7i had to stop reading the judges' comments about the scene...i'm looking at it going "wow-that's awesome" and they're like "um..the fog is too gritty...doesn't look like fog" and " A nice and solid scene – although nothing really stands out for me. The fence on the second floor wastes a lot of polys."..
if i ever get that critical of art, shoot me, because clearly my heart has turned to stone.
worse yet, it makes me not want to become a 3D artist if all i have to deal with is an endless queue of critics lined up to tell me that what i did had "incorrect" depth of field or my normal mapping was poorly aligned or whatever. - clyentnine, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6Thanks to these, tonight I'll dream of electric sheep.
- CressCrowbits, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism on a purely technical level. If someone tells me something I did is good, that makes me feel good but doesn't really help. If someone points out the subtle technical flaws I missed that improves my skills.
- mattmacneil, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6they should re-create Wayne's World 2 scenes.
- mediaphile, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6The more educated in something you become, the more able you are to criticize details that others would never think of. If you were an advanced 3D artist, this stuff wouldn't be as disheartening to hear because you'd have heard it a dozen times before.
If art doesn't get held up to that level of scrutiny, it never moves forward. - constchar, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6There needs to be a high-quality Vietnam mod or game using CryENGINE.
The engine has the vast horsepower required for rendering jungle environments making it perfect for recreating the vast Vietnam, or Korean War, experience unlike anything we've seen before. - fantasyflamz, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6I think bioshock is a good example of using darks and lights.
- s367828, on 05/06/2009, -1/+7Some of my mates submitted to this comp and got 6th place for their Hogwarts Castle scene and 8th for the Fifth Element Scene. Both teams used the Unreal 3 Engine. I've put some links below to their WIP threads.

I don't think there's much chance of Mods coming from this comp, it was geared towards 3d artists seing how far they could push modern game engines for visual richness and the shots are very specifically framed. It was a bit of an experiment to see what could be produced when you took away the pre-rendered packages that alot of Artists are used to. If you tried to play these scenes you'd probably get pretty dismal frame rates. - sdcarter, on 05/06/2009, -0/+6OK, we've had some word that there is some bad red rope licorice circulating in the crowd. Please stay away from the red rope licorice.
- j0en, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5It's like a nerdgasm
- CressCrowbits, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5I'm sorry but you seriously thought people would be making this stuff with the engine they used on Far Cry 1?
- Richandler, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5GAME OVER MAN!!! GAME OVER!!!
- deusdigit, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5I really really LOVE the CryENGINE!
- Peko, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5You know what a turtle is?
- mediaphile, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5Absolutely. And don't forget Dead Space. I'm not saying people don't get it right, I'm just saying it's more often done unrealistically.
- Bigballa5412, on 05/06/2009, -0/+5Enhance...
- inactive, on 05/06/2009, -0/+4Oscar Pistorius?
- wontstoptalking, on 05/06/2009, -2/+6Incredible. My favorite was the I Am Lengend, not just because of the quality of the build but because of how well they replicated the bleakness, as if everyone just disappeared in the middle of what they were doing.
I want to see some video! - DrakeGTA, on 05/06/2009, -0/+4I see what you did there.
- CressCrowbits, on 05/06/2009, -0/+4Saw Blade Runner - Final Cut in the cinema recently.
*****. - TheInimitable, on 05/06/2009, -0/+4I never did think the U3 engine was as pretty as CryEngine2, but those 5th Element ones are still pretty good-looking!
- BugMeNot2, on 05/06/2009, -0/+3They just recreated a scene so there wouldn't be much to show in a video.
- inactive, on 05/06/2009, -0/+3I wish I had that kind of skill with map editors!
- nixpix66, on 05/06/2009, -0/+3I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
One of my favorite monologues of all time. - inactive, on 05/06/2009, -0/+3that blade runner game must happen.
- jasonh1234, on 05/06/2009, -2/+5Jizzed... In... My pants.
