- CiDaemon, on 10/10/2007, -10/+125PC versions of games are almost always better, both in graphics and controls (at least for FPS games). Good job stating the obvious.
- BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -14/+110Ever notice console gamers have no ****ing idea what they're talking about when it comes to PC costs? I could build a system that meets those specs for less than $1k these day.
Plus, you know, when I cool my PC right, it doesn't warp the motherboard and die on me after extended use. - Tunguska, on 10/10/2007, -6/+90Thankyou, capitaine de l'évident.
- BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -9/+87The PC version is better. In other news, gravity exists.
- TheBritishGuy1, on 10/10/2007, -8/+79You know what's also better on a PC? The internet.
- terminalpariah, on 10/10/2007, -57/+111"The PC version definitely outclasses the Xbox 360, mostly because of the ability to crank the resolution to 1920 x 1200. If you've got a Vista rig with a DX10 card..."
Guys this game is WAY better if you shell out $3k for a top of the line gaming rig. I mean, the 360 version looks ALMOST as good, and you can play it on your big screen TV... but trust me, the extra $2700 is WELL worth it. - kent1146, on 10/10/2007, -9/+56Well, doesn't an XBox 360 + game + HDTV cost around $2000 or $3000 anyway? Doesn't that kind of defeat your argument right there?
- mooninite, on 10/10/2007, -5/+49Yes, this guy is sensationalizing. An 8800 320 meg + 2 gigs RAM + Core 2 Duo will probably run you $1,000... no where close to your ridiculous $3k. "High-end gaming rigs" are no longer expensive. This is not 1999.
- UberC, on 10/10/2007, -7/+35It's an FPS. Of course the PC version is better.
- dmr0240, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28Two things to keep in mind:
1. The PC version is only behind by one point. And after more reviews it could just as easily go up instead of down. When dealing with actual critical reviews, it isn't like IMDb where the rating is almost guaranteed to go down because all the fanboys go opening weekend.
2. If anything, PC reviewers are generally harder on games, score-wise. This is probably because a console is only around for ~six years, so reviewers are comfortable giving extremely high scores occasionally. PC reviewers are much more reluctant to do so, however, because they are essentially comparing each reviewed game to the massive library of PC games released over the past couple of decades. Each individual console's library is much smaller.
And from what I've heard, Bioshock runs quite well even on modest hardware. I guess only time will tell which version is ultimately better (just a day and a half left!). - brasso, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Demo for PC, please.
- Skitals, on 10/10/2007, -9/+32They say the radial menu on 360 takes you out of the game for a second, and while I agree, I think it's a GOOD thing. It lets you stop for a second and strategize, which is what Bioshock is all about. From the radial menu you can check on your whole arsenal and ammo availability. I like to think of it as its own plasmid--stop time! This is especially useful in Big Daddy fights (until you learn their weakness, which makes it way to easy and not fun to kill them). When you run out of all your grenades you get to stop for a second and ask yourself, "*****, what now. I knew I should have planned this out better."
Not to mention I like using separate triggers for weapons versus plasmids. - fani, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26I'm sick of these ridiculous flame wars. PC v/s Xbox 360, Xbox360 v/s Wii v/s PS3 v/s PS2, PSP v/s DS etc.
Just enjoy the damn game. Even IGN said it, Xbox360 and PC both give you very good and very close experiences. Just enjoy the damn game instead of worrying about those extra 2 fps. - renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23But still not close to 3k
- znachtman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20"How do you expect us to play bioshock on our Pentium II Acer? I'm not talking to my mom and I haven't left the basement in months... maybe I can go sell some comic books... oh look... new video on digg... cat gets put in human clothes... FUNNY!"
- krammaii, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24For most people, it'd be cheaper to buy a 360, then to upgrade their PC to fully utilize Bioshock. Even the minimum requirements on it are relatively hefty.
- nipterink, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22well to be fair the pc builders aren't including monitor prices in their specs either. and surely they aren't playing on a 17 inch lcd when they talk about 1920x1200...
- byronm, on 10/10/2007, -17/+33The beauty of BioShock is the fact it is less about precesion and more about tactics. You don't have to be precise to use your lightning plasmid to kill everyone standing in water and most weapons are pretty deadly if you can aim at all. As far as graphics/gameplay. I'd prefer to be on my couch immserded in 5.1 dolby digital on my 105" LCD projector screen at 720p than stuck at my pc, but thats just me.. Surely the more money you throw at it the "better the experience" for for 400.00 the 360 gives one hell of an experience.
- micropizzle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Why the hell would you buy a computer at best buy?
- Orderless, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Or you can go to newegg.com and build a $1000 system that completely thrashes anything available at Best Buy.
- RandomSchl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13So where are the PC benchmarks??
- GamaFu, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20Console games won't have compatible issues after many years.
On PC, that's another story...
That's if you would still want to play it then though.
Since I don't have a powerful PC, I will just get XBOX 360 version. - mooninite, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16*gasp* why don't you just hook your PC up to your projector? There's nothing stopping you.
- christianw, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17so a 1500 dollar pc can run it better than a 300 dollar console
but not by a ton, just a lil more eye candy.
i think me saving money is much "better" than softer shadows. - norman619, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13You do know that a PC is not a game console right? It has much more uses than playing video games. If you buy a PC just for games then you my friend are an idiot.
- blaaguuu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I know its been said a million times, and console fans dont care.. but you can build a very nice, almost top of the line system, with dual core, and a quality GPU for about $1000. Yes, thats 2-3x what a 360 or PS3 costs... But having a powerful PC has so many other uses, and you have a back catalog of thouosands of great games that are completely backwards compatible, hundreds of quality free games, and the ability download or create mods for many of said games... something console gamers will only just be able to enjoy in a few months (you guys have no idea what you have been missing). You really cant compare a gamign console with a gaming PC just on price... the consoles are trying to become more PC-like, with stuff like web browsing, but they are still a far cry from being as open and havign as many awesome uses beyodn gaming as a good fast PC.
Also dont forget teh $1000 TV to play the console games with decent resolution, instead of the $300 computer monitor. - scronline, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Imagine that, a game that's better on a PC. For those of you complaining about blue screens and yadda yadda, Windows is solid enough that if you actually pay attention to what you're doing and don't just install every piece of "free" software out there you won't have problems. But what do I know? I only work on computers for a living and 90% of the problems are malware, 10% is hardware. Which means 90% of the time it's user error.....
- djphatjive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18The 360 version looks like the pics on the back of the case. PC version you have no clue how the game is going to look once you install it, run updates, update drivers, and set up all your graphic card preferances and find out you can't even get close to what the back of the box looks like because your computer sucks
- Evacide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9why use 64-bit when lots of stuff dosen't support it and there isn't a noticable difference
- BostonLow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10These days, yeah, you can build a kick-ass gaming rig for less than $1000

I built a similar rig recently, except I decided to go crazy with display and video card, so it ended up costing me around $1500 instead - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Don't forget porn (by way of the internet).
- SOS84, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18Sorry guys, but you can build a darn fine system for less than than $800. I know, I just did, and it should be able to run Bioshock with everything maxed out. Intel E6550, XFX 8800GTS XXX edition, 2GB Mushkin Ram, Intel mobo and WD HDD. Exploiting rebates, this system came to $640. Throw in an all aluminum Silverstone case and 500W PSU and it came in at $800 even, and one does not need to spend $100 on a case or $100 on a motherboard. You could very easily to it for $650 with minimal performance lost.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Having to pause to think about how you will play is horrible. Liek the guy above me said, you really should learn to think on the fly. If you are a vertan to FPS then this hsouldn't be a problem. Games like Bioshock are games which suck you in with a good sptory to go along with great game play. Everytime you have to do something to pause the game you ruin the experience.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12The best and most cost effective PC is the one you build yourself.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -10/+18no because you decided to throw in a display which no one has been adding into the cost of a PC.
- Chicken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Dude, console gamers don't know this stuff, you have to dumb it down.
- PetroSan, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12you labeled HIM a fanboy? he admitted it was less precise, but said that for this game you don't need precision to the nth degree. Then he said that he would rather spend $400 for a great experience than 3x that for an impeccable one. It doesn't matter if you disagree, but don't label him a fanboy.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Not that surprising, really.
1)The Xbox360 hardware is a couple years old by now, and PC developers are always designing for the cutting edge for PC graphics.
2) The PC interface has so many interface options compared to a controller (although, I wonder if that Xbox360 keyboard-on-a-controller thing can be configured for games)
3) What you are buying the console for isn't cutting edge performance, but rather cost, reliability (red rings aside), convenience, and compatibility-all the things that have always plagued PC gaming in the past. - gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I just don't understand the whole PC vs console thing. PC's are expensive and difficult to keep up to date. If it were not for the consoles a lot of games provably never would be made because not everyone can afford a high end game rig. Of course the PC version will be better, but is it $1,000.00 better?
- nipterink, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8actually the ign person reviewed it for the pc and the xbox 360 and gave it the same score on both. in the end, for bioshock, i think the aspects of the game that make it so great are not related to how many particle effects your machine can push or your ability to use a keyboard instead of a controller.
- jubalharshaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Your reading comprehension skills are lacking. He said EACH console is only around for (approx) 6 years.
- thebuggalo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9that is still twice as much as an XBox 360, not to mention the time and experience required to actually build it. I don't know the first thing about building a computer... I have a 4 year old pc i bought from dell for college that is no where near the minimum system requirements, and a crappy crt monitor. I'm not going to go out and spend even $800 just to get nicer looking particle effects when my xbox 360 can handle it just fine. And don't go saying when you buy a 360, HDTV, and the game, it costs just as much as the pc I don't have an HDTV, just an old standard def, and i already had the 360 which i bought over a year ago... and i haven't had to pay one penny in upgrades to make sure it continues to play games smoothly. To me, this game will look and play just fine for me, all for the price of $60.
Not to mention if I have a friend over, there is something lame about being at a computer to play games with friends. I like hanging out on the couch with a controller and friends... not all huddled around my "rig" on office chairs. - natmaster, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Why would you play bioshock on a crappy computer? That's like trying to play it on an original xbox or something.
- znachtman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10That's like saying... "For most people it would be cheaper to buy a pair of rollerblades than purchase a car." Answer: Duh.
- mashw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9"but the game looks gorgeous regardless. On our gaming PC running a Core 2 Quad processor with a GeForce 8800 GTX, and 4 GB of RAM, it ran very well, with only a few occasions of seemingly random framerate hitches"
Well no sh*t that 'version' of the game is going to be better, but to say the "PC version" is better is so sweeping. - TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7You can play your PC on a high-def television, silly. :3
- vawksel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6.... How do I delete my comment.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7but it will never outperform magnetism, although it is cheaper.
- 350Zed, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Wow... the 360 fanboys sure jumped on this quickly.
Watch out for the flying Clearcil in the fray. -
