Kids know about sex and want it and instead of equipping kids with proper knowledge so they can make the most informed choice, a lot of kids take unnecessary chances. My father always said he didn't have a problem with us watching a violent and/or sexual program as long as he was there to answer any of our questions. That being said with puberty,hormones raging and an underdeveloped brain, a teenager isn't exactly the most logical person and is at a disadvantage to a 30+ something year old. Honestly, I see a lot of attractive underage but beyond a physical attraction these girls are pretty ***** annoying. All the guys I know that go after young girls are the ones who don't have much to offer to someone near their age range. Case in point, my 16 year old sister was telling me how one of friends let some 26 y.o. go condom less because he told her he was sterile and she couldn't catch anything. But this law was established in the late 1700's and only marks the age limit where the feds have rights to pursue charges. However, states didn't start imposing an age of consent until the late 60's when it was discovered that you could put a large amount of hippies in jail for a long time just by imposing an age of consent at 18. If it wasn't for the summer of love we would probably only have the federal age of consent to deal with today. Back then the laws were called statutory rape laws and they were enforced vigorously at first. But at least the laws admitted that such a relationship could exist consensually and more often than not the offender got a short probation.
Everything was cool for about 14 years and during
the 70's there was relatively few crimes of this nature.
That is until Reagan became President.
For 200 years federal law required judges to look at circumstances surrounding a crime and judge accordingly.
This meant that if you robbed a 7-11 to feed a hungry family you may not go to jail at all even if you were convicted. Reagan, having never been poor or hungry, and being a racist, decided he didn't like this law.
One of the first things Reagan did was sign an executive order eliminating this law thus paving the way for mandatory minimum sentencing. Next step, create demons and sensationalize them. Crack is introduced into society by Ronnie himself in a special televised speech demonizing a drug that had actually yet to hit the streets outside of NYC.
He encourages the media to harp in on any little crime or criminal they can find and make them big news. From there all it took was a single kidnapping and murder of an unknown little girl from ***** to turn the whole statutory rape thing into child molestation. For nearly two hundred years you were considered equal at the age of 12. Teens struck out across the nation and became pioneers, raised families, held jobs and proved they were fully as capable as any older adult. So did the kids suddenly become less mature? No, but the adults sure did. When adults started to think of their children as less than a whole person with no ability to think for themselves our nation went into the ***** can sexually.
And that is the reason for the sexual quagmire our nation is in.
When I myself was a kid I regarded these laws as an insult to my intelligence. Now I regard them as an insult to the children of today. They will ***** who they want law or not. May as well give them condoms and proper education at let them have at it.
