- captoftheworld, on 02/24/2008, -6/+72I am proud to be a part of the PC master race.
- Varz, on 02/24/2008, -2/+41Just like to point out that Steam is a great platform for games distribution and it automatically download patches for games. Of course not all games are available on Steam. Not that I mind, every time I get a new game I just get the latest patch, install, then play, I've experienced save games being corrupted before after a patch.
- gameradam, on 02/24/2008, -22/+52PC gaming isn't a hassle! your just stupid
- Lazer32, on 02/24/2008, -5/+28It is indeed the most advanced, and best platform available. I especially like how we can play RTS and FPS games online for free rather than pay for something like "xbox live"
- Murrabbit, on 02/24/2008, -2/+22This guy's problem sounds like it's more against EA in particular than PC games.
EA is notorious for this sort of BS. I'm not an insider or anything but it sure as heck seems like they rush their developers and really crack the whip - skipping out on product testing to release a product which, while technically playable, often has more little bugs than a retail product really should.
Good thing about PC games, of course, is that you can always patch - and there always will be a patch be it from official channels or the fan communities. Can't say the same thing about Console games - though they are getting better in that regard.
Another plus for the PC is that you were gonna' friggin' need one anyway, so what's an extra 200 bucks or so to turn it from a word processor/net surfer into a decent gaming rig, really?
That said I'm gonna go play my wii, because, come on, consoles still got it goin' on anyway! - unearth, on 02/24/2008, -3/+23I never understood the "cost" argument for console gaming. Everyone that plays console games also owns a computer already. The last time I bought a computer was over 5 years ago, and it still easily plays all of the games that I throw at it. Yeah, I play CS, TF2, and Portal at low settings, but thats because I don't give a ***** about the graphics. It's the gameplay that matters. I would sooner slam my dick in a door than play a first person shooter with an analog stick.
Console gaming does have its merits, but cost is not one of them. - NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -5/+20I am sick of it.
If your enjoying the game your playing then enjoy it. That's it. We are done. WTF do you care which is better? No one is slapping the dick out of your mouth. - kazzyD, on 02/24/2008, -5/+20Uh, no, where did you read that it was a hacked version? It was a legitimately purchased copy of Crysis.
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -0/+15EA sucks!
There, fixed it for you - sleeknerve, on 02/24/2008, -3/+15HA, at the $3000 "gaming computer" are people retarded? Since when does a gaming computer cost that much. I play max settings on crysis with salvaged dell parts and then I spent 300 dollars on my friends used 8800GTX 250 on the QuadCore, and then 80 for 4 gigs of ram, and then 150 for a good motherboard and powersupply combo. People are idiots. That gaming pc maxes out crysis for only 780, plus you could spend a good 150 on a lcd monitor so that brings the total to 930. Wow, a whopping 930 dollars. You could build a budget gaming computer with a computer that you already have that maxes out everything but crysis for only 500. 200 for the 8800GT, 200 for a AMD X2 4800/AM2 motherboard combo, and then 100 for a motherboard. You could also get money back for the stuff you got rid of. There, 500 dollars maxes out every game. People should never never ever use the cost argument against pc gaming. There just too ignorant to know the market. I bought everything on newegg of course.
- thedragon4453, on 02/24/2008, -0/+12I like gaming as much as the next guy but you won't see me slamming my dick in a door over a game. :)
- BlackKnight6, on 02/24/2008, -0/+12I think the most obvious thing is patching console games is MUCH simpler than PC games. The console has only 1 hardware configuration, that's it. PC can range all over the place, not to mention other software apps (3rd party apps, anti-virus, drivers, etc.) interfering with the game's/OS's operation. That is really tough to patch with 100% bug free on even quarterly/semi annual basis.
- Hypermarkalan, on 02/24/2008, -14/+26Says the person who doesn't know the difference between the possessive and contraction form of "you."
- Ribbed4U, on 02/24/2008, -0/+11To be fair, CoD 4 was available on Steam from the beginning. That's where I bought mine. Not disputing your facts, but just merely saying that I'm sure a LOT of PC gamers went the Steam route as well.
- thebellmaster1x, on 02/24/2008, -2/+12There will ALWAYS be a niche for PC gaming. There's something infinitely more artistic about responding to your hand movements and having hundreds of buttons than using a stick or two with a dozen buttons.
- Aensland, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9Let's not forget modding. With a console you get a space sim. With a pc, you can get an entire community like Lancersreactor. Infinitely more bang for your buck.
- sleeknerve, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9lol, people complain about hacking or cheating, but i never see them, and your telling me that halo is better than any pc game out right now when it comes to the horrible immachure players.
- ledguitar, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9I wish I was as rich as you. I'm still gaming on my N64.
- Murrabbit, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8Steam's got to be one of the best innovations in PC gaming in a long time. IT makes it so much more accessible for those who aren't already hardened veterans. For me, the bugs and occasional hassle are all part of the experience - I'd be lost without it, but I can understand why that turns off the new blood, especially with Consoles finally catching up. It's just such a clean and efficient system and I'll be willing to bet that in another few years Steam and systems like it will dominate the PC gaming market (which will not collapse entirely as nay-sayers have harped ever since the release of the friggin' SNES).
- Protoss, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8I agree. Steam is an amazing platform, and I am very glad to see that developers are finally jumping on board. You don't have to worry about patching, or reinstalling the game. Hell, you don't even have to worry about installing the game, just downloading it.
- karmaghost, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7It all depends on how you look at it and what kind of stuff you already own. You can use a PC for more than just games, but you can also use an HDTV for more than consoles.
- KnightMareInc, on 02/24/2008, -3/+10pc gaming has a higher initial cost but the console makers rape you pretty badly in the end. If the console makers didnt make a killing on licensing fees, peripheral cost, online service fees, etc they wouldnt subsidize the console to get you into their web.
- InsaneOni, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7Not to mention that you need a $1000 + Tv to make your console look good. My $300 24" monitor has the same resolution (1080p) and I get to use it for all my basic computing needs too.
I think a huge part of the PC gaming allure is the technical side. I love overclocking my CPU/GPU, pouring over specs for new hardware, searching out good deals, etc. You don't get any of that with a console. I know some people just want to hook it up and play, but that's not what I'm looking for. - sleeknerve, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7ha!, ping has nothing to do with your system and everything to do with your internet
- BlackKnight6, on 02/24/2008, -2/+8How does using WoW support your argument? It does the opposite...
- Satertek, on 02/24/2008, -1/+7[citation needed]
It's just as plausible PC gamers are turning to digital distribution, which aren't included in reports such as the ones NPD releases. - grat2001, on 02/24/2008, -2/+8EA tech support sucks! It took them 2 1/2 weeks to get back with me about not being able to see the cursor in C&C3. And there solution didn't even work. I have a AMD 5600 X2 w/ 4GB and Nvidia 9600GT(got it yesterday) running under Vista. And yes I've tried drivers and a fresh install after cleaning out the registry and deleting all the folders.
- NiGHTSChao, on 02/24/2008, -1/+6I just finished setting up my new rig, dual 8800GTS (512) cards, Q6600 CPU, 4GB Ram
Works flawless (haven't tried crysis -> no vista)
As for my total price for everything (including cooling, case, etc) it came out to be about 1,750 and this is near-top of the line - ControlcChris, on 02/24/2008, -2/+7e machines suck.
- Aensland, on 02/24/2008, -0/+5Exactly. And not everyone is content to buy the latest overhyped shooter on the market, there are literally millions of free games out there on the web. Sure, many might be crap, but if even "only" 1% of them appeal to you that would easily be thousands of titles.
You're not gonna breathe, eat, sleep, live XYZ game forever. Your $50 one-shot console title might give you 100 hours of enjoyment. I don't even have to spend a dime and enjoy myself just as much with free games. The controller argument is also *****, USB gamepads, hello?? PC gaming = a universe of choice. - PatoLucas, on 02/24/2008, -3/+83 words: world of warcraft. As long as consoles don't have it they'll be a failure. I love my Xbox360, but my PC is a damn fine platform.
- SAHChandler, on 02/24/2008, -3/+8RTS's don't belong on the console.
They never have, and they never will. And if by some grace a consoel comes with a mouse keyboard it isn't a console anymore.
This is why I am a PC Gamer. - Pinkshisno, on 02/24/2008, -1/+6Exactly. Just have fun.
- Yarkz, on 02/24/2008, -0/+5Maybe it's my paranoia but I always search into a game before buying or installing anything; like I will quickly google a game's name and a couple crucial parts of my computer same with patches, then I will install them.
Anyone else do this? Not spending hours just about 5 min before doing anything. - elvenseven, on 02/24/2008, -7/+11Your just stupid.
- Ribbed4U, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4Yeah, those 10 million WoW subscribers sure show that WoW has caused a decline in PC gaming......
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5Uh... maybe cause there's no games on Macs.
You can't even upgrade a Mac if you wanted to.
If you're fine with a Mac, I don't see why you feel the need to buy the newest processor or graphics card to upgrade your PC.
lol troll. - sleeknerve, on 02/24/2008, -3/+7oh com on...ive been pc gaming for years and i hardly ever in my life see hackers, i used to play CS and saw hackers every once in awhile but now i play COD4 and i never see them, and everyones system doesnt make a difference on there skill, and have you heard of xfire? one click join.
- Ribbed4U, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4Yeah I also find it hard to swallow the new price structure for "next gen" console gaming. 60 bucks for a game sucks.
- grat2001, on 02/24/2008, -0/+4Sorry, I'm just not in the mood to install 130+ patches for a fresh XP SP2 install...Maybe when SP3 releases I'll go dual-boot.
- 4thcage, on 02/24/2008, -1/+5PC games getting less attention means that people are getting lazier and stupider.
- apc3161, on 02/24/2008, -3/+7Why consoles refuse to allow plug and play USB keyboards and mice be a standard feature for every game is beyond me. If they would bring RTS and other strategy games to consoles, I would probably never play a PC game again.

- BambinosKrib, on 02/24/2008, -2/+5Got a Wi, upgraded my PC rig with the 8800gt and plan on buying the PS3 when it hits the £200 mark (or maybe a newer and better edition may come out with backward compatibility.. hopefully)
Updated the PC rig to play GTA IV and COD4... Got the Wii to play brawl and it's awesome home-brew potential ... and I'll get the PS3 for Gran Turismo 5 and the Blue-ray player. - Narishma, on 02/24/2008, -0/+322" isn't a resolution.
- beefchi, on 02/24/2008, -4/+7i agree with the comment about mouse and keyboard precision, and controller clunkiness, but you get used to a controller (whether its 360 or ps3). its opposite for me, i got sick of pc gaming and switched to console. i know more people who own consoles than play on PC.
- PatoLucas, on 02/24/2008, -2/+5I also check if the game has some nasty DRM, usually that's the greater deterrent to buy a game.
- apc3161, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3I'm talking about being free to choose whichever you prefer.
- Haphazardness, on 02/24/2008, -2/+5Hear, hear man! It's a good race to be in.
