http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?menu=browser&mode=a ... - sirber, on 12/13/2007, -20/+171Makes me want to quit PC gaming... $1800 for 37FPS?
- Poltron, on 12/13/2007, -4/+151I run Crysis with a 7800 GS OC, but I might as well say I'm playing Far Cry, cause of the way it looks.
- MateyO, on 12/13/2007, -2/+87And in 2 years the same graphical horsepower will cost sub-$200
- takeo1775, on 12/13/2007, -2/+78...wait till the 9 series then try again
- phogasmic, on 12/13/2007, -5/+77Thats insane.
- estacado, on 12/13/2007, -3/+72It only uses one. The other 2 float on air.
- elfprince13, on 12/13/2007, -10/+74I'm rather amused by the categorization of 1280x1024 as "low resolution" given that all 3 of my computers still run on 1024*768, and websites are only just now beginning to drop support for 800*600
- eclectro, on 12/13/2007, -6/+66In other news, scientists are reporting another one degree of planet-wide warming.
- smurf22, on 12/13/2007, -6/+65I went to my friends house, he has dual 8800 ultras, a quad core, 4 gigs of ram, and 2 raptor drives. We ran it on very high, the game still stuttered.
- spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -0/+57Crysis isn't indicative of the state of PC gaming. Games with friendlier engines like Unreal Tournament 3, Call of Duty 4, and Half Life 2 are far superior on PC. Play any console shooter that's been ported to PC and the frame rate and resolution are always so fantastic that you can snipe with a pistol.
- NGliam, on 12/13/2007, -3/+57I can't afford to PC game. There, I said it.
- KaiUno, on 12/13/2007, -3/+46Sorry, but my human eye can very well distinguish between 30fps and 60+fps, thank you very much. When you pan on a console game, it isn't nearly as smooth as a pan on a pc game running at double the fps.
- tektalk, on 12/13/2007, -3/+44By the power of Grey Skull...
- waterdrop, on 12/13/2007, -5/+45It's possible to run the game on Very High with a 8800GT if you use a low resolution such as 1280x1024. Of course if you want to play the game at 1920x1200 then your gonna need a nice SLI setup such as this one.
- ahhell, on 12/13/2007, -8/+48Alright, genius, what was the bottleneck that allowed you to play on very high "flawlessly"?
Was it the cork you pulled out of your ass along with your *****? - spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -1/+34I tried it on medium on my 7900GT OC and got about 8 FPS. Pretty depressing, considering Call of Duty 4 runs like butter at max. Crysis will be one of those games, like Doom 3, that is glorious after 18 months but is ahead of its time at launch.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -5/+38you have huge ePenis. We Asians Have small ePenis.
- LMN8R, on 12/13/2007, -1/+32*roll eyes*
I played through all of Crysis on high details on a single $250 8800GT, a 2 year old dual core processor, and ram you could get easily for $30-40 today.
Perfectly playable, high settings, looks better than any other game ever released. Forget about Very High, it's meant for the next generation of video cards, and it's meant to solidify Crytek's lead in the graphics arena for next year too. - Spuy767, on 12/13/2007, -3/+32What I want to know, is why can't people optimize a game engine. The Unreal Engine runs brilliantly. Looks much better than Crysis, and runs a ***** faster on decent hardware. And what is Blizzard's compulsion with optimizing the engine that powers wow. When I first put the graphics gard in this machine, I could get about 130 FPS in wow, now, I'm running at an average of about 390FPS because they optimized the engine for Multiple cores. What in the hell?
- Mononuclear, on 12/13/2007, -6/+35as far as gaming goes 1280X1024 is low resolution. The only reason websites still support 800x600 is because a lot of people (read old computer illiterate people) use it and if you don't support it you lose traffic/business.
- m0zzie, on 12/13/2007, -2/+29and just when we all finally get the hardware to run it smoothly at highest settings.. the release of Far Crysis will be upon us.. *****.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -2/+28i agree, no one should have to build a "super computer" to play the damn game
- xXGeechXx, on 12/13/2007, -2/+27Your freinds a loser for taking out a loan to buy a good enough computer to play a game in super high resolution.
- Devido, on 12/13/2007, -1/+25Looks awesome. Those cards are so close together, is there enough ventilation?
- spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -3/+26I played it again recently and was absolutely blown away by the graphics and animation. It's a really great engine. I'm also amazed at how much I enjoy the game. I wasn't crazy about it when I played it at launch but the gameplay and graphics and especially the sound make it an unmatched experience. Give it another try if you've upgraded since the game came out.
And only pussies cry about the flashlight. That's the primary game mechanic. Get over it. - LMN8R, on 12/13/2007, -1/+23You guys are acting as if you need to run Crysis on Very High to get it to look amazing. Newsflash - on *HIGH* details it looks better than every other game out there and is perfectly playable on any 8800-series card at those details.
- tendonut, on 12/13/2007, -0/+21The 9 series won't cost any more than the 8 series, the 7 series, or the 6 series, or the FX series, or the 4 series before that when they came out. I haven't seen an outrageous jump in video card prices for as long as I have been a PC gamer. It's always been $100 - 150 for Low-low end,$150-200 for low-high end, $200-$300 for mid-ranged, $400-$600 for high end, and $600+ for the OMFG I ***** my pants ranged.
- spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -0/+21No self-respecting geek would spend his computer money on a car.
- magic6435, on 12/13/2007, -3/+24PC
- LMN8R, on 12/13/2007, -2/+22The Unreal Engine is beautiful, but there is a reason why Crysis runs about 1/3 the frame rate - there is easily 3x the amount of ***** going on. I played through all of Crysis on high details on a single 8800GT - perfectly playable throughout - and comparing it to any UE3 game is utterly laughable.
UT3 is beautiful, but the environments are completely static (outside of a couple objective-based movable objects), and even the biggest Warfare map is puny compared to some of the levels in Crysis. - Blah_Blah_Blah, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1910 fps is hardly playable
- TrunkMonkee, on 12/13/2007, -1/+20Makes me wonder if programmers ever do optimization of code.
- spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -1/+19Yes, you're totally correct. Crysis simulates a world, not just a corridor. However, most gamers would rather play a smooth corridor than a choppy sandbox. Instant gratification counts.
- Scrappy1850, on 12/13/2007, -1/+19Al Gore hates 1200W power supplies.
- killtherebel, on 12/13/2007, -0/+17I agree with you. Call of Duty 4 runs perfectly on my system but Crysis needs to be played at low settings to be even semi playable. And then it looks about as good as Far Cry. Very disappointing.
- clickwir, on 12/13/2007, -2/+19PC, no doubt. Console is ok, but you can't do anything with it. You're stuck with the hardware. Take the Wii for example. It desperately needs some anti-aliasing. Nintendo's not going to allow me to buy an 8800GTX and slap it in there and get the results I want. No, I'm stuck with it for years till they come out with Wii+1 and then I can hope they have addressed the graphics issues. Not to mention that my expectations THEN will be higher than they are now. But with a PC, no problem. Out with the old hardware and in with the new. Play on!
- chingy1788, on 12/13/2007, -3/+19you dont want to play Starcraft on your Console, dang near impossible
- shadowspawn, on 12/13/2007, -0/+16This would trip the breaker in my office.
- mharj, on 12/13/2007, -0/+16now I understand previous digg news much better :) ... "No more summer ice over the arctic by 2013."
- Haohmaru, on 12/13/2007, -0/+15High end cards usually have a cover with intake/exhaust on the ends of the card. So you can stack them as close as you like.
- spyrochaete, on 12/13/2007, -2/+17Yeah, maybe he's quitting PC gaming for bingo parlours.
- scribles, on 12/13/2007, -2/+17some people are quality whores. if they buy a game that is supposed to have great graphics they want to see great graphics. i am one of these such people.
1024x768? forget that, if the game supports it, i want to play at 1680x1050, and if it doesn't, 1280x1024. medium? that's a word that's not in my vocabulary. i want the ultra-uber-ridiculous settings. the subtle effects and details really make games for me.
i'm sure the game looks "fine" at 1024x768, but i bet it looks amazing with everything cranked up. to call some one an idiot because they don't like playing games on the same quality settings is ridiculous. everybody has their own tastes, likes, and dislikes. if you want to play at 1024x768 fine. i'll continue playing at 1680x1050 or 1280x1024. - Chompy, on 12/14/2007, -0/+15In 5 years you'll be playing this on a cellphone.
- tendonut, on 12/13/2007, -1/+15Your friend has too much money to spend.
My friend took out a loan and was running a 2 GeForce 7950 GX2s and he eventually sold one of them. The performance difference on today's games didn't make it worth the extra $700. Oh boy, he can't run UT3 at 250FPS, he has to settle for 125FPS. - Poltron, on 12/13/2007, -4/+18http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?menu=browser&mode=a ...
- Azuroth, on 12/13/2007, -0/+14I hate this game.
- saisumimen, on 12/13/2007, -2/+15Did you turn the anti aliasing on? Are you sure you didn't accidentally installed Far Cry instead?
- zgoos, on 12/13/2007, -5/+18I currently find myself with the choice of buying a console or upgrading my PC to play the latest games. Guess which way I'm leaning.
- cambob76, on 12/13/2007, -2/+15Yes you are.
