- indiepenguins, on 10/30/2009, -5/+245"Infinity Ward doesn't care about PC gamers" -Kanye West
- flyinfoofighter, on 10/29/2009, -3/+149I knew ars wouldn't let this rest. The linked preview video for MW1 advertising the PC features, all now missing in MW2, is a sad indictment.
- Rev0lver, on 10/30/2009, -2/+144I'm simply amazed by this...talk about ***** over the very people that MADE YOU, IW.
Remember when Call of Duty 1 was a surprise hit on the pc, while everyone else was busy ***** around with Medal of Honor: Gestapo Adventures 32 on their PS2? - ThatEvilGuy, on 10/29/2009, -14/+138Nice to see an honest article for a change instead of the usual ass kissing.
Anyways, ***** IW for their *****, they got too full of themselves. ***** off and take your MW2 ***** with you. - whytey, on 10/30/2009, -11/+120***** YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU INFINITY WARD!
- inactive, on 10/30/2009, -0/+107When I play on PC I want a clear ***** alternative from what's on my console(s). That is to say I don't want to be ass raped in the form *****, overpriced maps / DLC, I want to choose which maps I want to play and who I want to play them with. The whole basic matchmaking process ala Halo3 has been mutated into something where you can't choose your favorite maps every round. The result? You had better purchase some *awesome* DLC!!! And now they want the PC to become the inflexible, ***** that console versions have become? No ***** thank you, I'll go play Urban Terror for free and it'll be just as fun.
- pagno, on 10/29/2009, -17/+115***** IW and Activision-Blizzard. I am not buying this, or any game by those companies.
- daviz0, on 10/30/2009, -2/+91if there doing this to fight piracy then they have made a wrong move, this is gonna increase piracy by alot simply because now players are not gonna care about the multiplayer and just torrent it for the single player.
IW and activision screws us then we will screw them - Yargh, on 10/30/2009, -0/+85This really is a travesty. Homogenize everything. Lets NOT take advantage of a platform's unique capabilities.
- ErrorLoading, on 10/30/2009, -2/+83Anyone who has any respect for PC gaming, DO NOT buy this game. It's that simple. Do not give in.
It's easy to say on the surface that it's just a game and that we are whining, but this is kind of a tipping point for PC gaming. If you buy this game you are saying this play style is ok, but it's not. In a couple years the nails will be too deep in the coffin to go back.
I've also decided never to spend another dime on console games because console games are ruining gaming altogether. They are dumbing it down beyond belief.
IW has lost a PC AND a 360 sale from me. - 3nder99, on 10/30/2009, -0/+75Hopefully Bad Company 2 is a decent game for PC. Needless to say, within 2 to 3 years, I expect another Franchise, possibly Battlefield, to become the FPS of choice for the PC. What Activision doesn't understand, is that in 4 years or so, that Franchise will be stealing COD's console sales with its new image garnered from the rabid PC fanbase.
It was IW listening to the PC community that helped make COD4 the game it became. Now that advice will go elsewhere. That loyal fanbase will go elsewhere. More importantly, the title of best FPS will go elsewhere. - TitanKing, on 10/30/2009, -0/+71I cannot understand how a company would damage their revenue like this, do they realize that they are fighting their own clients here to spite piracy?
- ItWasOnlyAJoke, on 10/30/2009, -1/+71Doesn't IW understand that they will make MORE money if they allow dedicated servers? Isn't this just a plain-and-simple no brainer? Don't they see all the canceled pre-orders?
- caramelzappa, on 10/30/2009, -3/+73I'm not going to go around saying Infinity Ward is ***** me over, but they are releasing a product that's inferior to COD4. Right now COD4 is $23 on steam, and I can pick it up and get everything that MW2 is going to offer, plus more. There are other great games coming out for the PC that fully support dedicated servers as well as mods, and don't charge a ridiculous $60 price tag. I'm not ANGY at IW for doing what they did, but as a customer I've decided to take my money to the competition. Give me a product with less features for a higher price if that's what you want to do, just don't expect me to buy it, because I won't.
- AIias, on 10/29/2009, -2/+60I am surprised ARS took so long to have an article on this, i suppose they were waiting for more of an official word for IW. It sucks that IW has pushed PC Gamers way off to the side... I understand that we are the minority, but still...common!
- Rev0lver, on 10/30/2009, -2/+54I highly doubt Blizz themselves had anything to do with this. But that's beside the point: ***** Activision. They're the new EA [who were the new Ubi]. Thankfully EA has wised up since they got a new president...
- ambo33, on 10/30/2009, -1/+52To put it simply, I play PC games for multiplayer. With that said, I will not be buying MW2 for this reason alone.
- MalevolentDog, on 10/30/2009, -3/+52Speak with your wallets and DO NOT BUY this ***** game!
- evilesttoast, on 10/30/2009, -0/+44AND A ***** YOOUUU ACTIVISION!
- PunkRockGeoff, on 10/30/2009, -4/+46Wow, Just WOW. I WAS really looking forward to MW2. This is an utter deal breaker. I am a member of a clan that was #1 on the HQ TWL ladders in COD4. How can you have competitive gaming hosted locally? I have a PS3 along with my PC. I never play the PS3 online for anything, The experience just doesn't compare to the smoothness of a dedicated server, plus I hate the matchmaking systems on the console games. Oh well.. Another game will come out rather than beinga poor console port.
- overnine9k, on 10/30/2009, -2/+44This is why you get for paying for online gaming on Xbox Live. MS is raping you and you guys are just willing to take it. Soon, everything will be subscription based.
- vtnerd, on 10/30/2009, -0/+41100% truth. I will pirate this game for the single-player.
- PunkRockGeoff, on 10/30/2009, -0/+32Why is this get getting dugg down? It's true. With say COD4, the incentive not to pirate is essentially the multiplayer. While I probably won't bother pirating it and won't buy it, the fact remains, I don't want to pay $60 for a 6 hour game in singleplayer only, while I will pay $60 for 6 hours of singleplayer and endless hours of multiplayer.
- voze, on 10/30/2009, -1/+33I think you mean: "INFINITY WARD DOESNT CARE ABOUT PC GAMERS" - Kanye West
- whytey, on 10/30/2009, -0/+29ANA ***** YOU CHICKEN
- TwwIX, on 10/30/2009, -1/+30This ***** move is further prove that developers and publishers such as this just don't give ***** about PC gaming any more.
They're dumbing it down so that they can gain a couple of more bucks from their rip off DLC map packs. This is basically a big "***** you!" to modders and server leasers. It's mappers and modders that add to the longevity of a game, not ***** and overpriced map packs, you *****! - xquizit, on 10/30/2009, -0/+27Agreed. The biggest feature of MW is unquestionably multiplayer, and now IW is gonna screw it up for MW2.
- ParticleMan420, on 10/30/2009, -0/+25FUKA YOOO DOLPHEEN!
- Elfman9, on 10/30/2009, -0/+24There are 171,000+ signatures on that petition right now. Take that time $60 for each PC version that won't be bought and you get $10,260,000 that won't be going to IW!
- Iceman21, on 10/30/2009, -1/+25They don't care, they are like OMGZ LOST SALES, PEOPLE ARE GETTING IT FOR FREE
What they need to do is make high quality content and ignore the so called pirates and embrace paying customers, not rain crap on everyone. - EvilDeadAsh, on 10/30/2009, -2/+26***** Activision & Infinity Tard. I can only hope the new controversy over being able to play as a terrorist hurts them in some way. I looked so forward to playing this game BUT i could give a ***** now and If i am ever desperate enough to buy it in the future i will make sure i buy a used copy so they don't get a penny of my money.
- I'm currently playing Borderlands, the game i bought after cancelling my pre-order of MW2 and i love it. And guess what? It didn't end after only 6 hours! Suck it Bobby Ko-Dick. - smoger, on 10/30/2009, -0/+23I wonder how much of this decision was IW's, and how much was Activision.
I don't buy the crap about making this an "easier" experience for a moment... since when have PC gamers needed an easier experience? Since when do we have trouble sorting a server list by ping and choosing from one of the top choices? It's not rocket science, and we've been doing it for years. Infinity Ward KNOWS this, they aren't stupid.
Sadly, my guess is that this is nothing more than a cash grab... a way to keep more control over the game to keep it from pirates, and an avenue to later justify selling DLC. I understand the piracy concerns, but these publishers have to realize that if you make a quality product you will be rewarded by the support of the community.
Oh well,.. I have plenty of other games to play. I'll pick this up when it hits the clearance rack instead of an instant purchase. ..or even better, I'll try to grab it used to be sure Activision doesn't see a dime of my money. - BluZebra, on 10/30/2009, -1/+24I was going to buy MW2.
But I put my money down on Dragon Age: Origins on STEAM instead. - Stemnin, on 10/30/2009, -1/+24KEEP ***** THAT CHICKEN!
- overnine9k, on 10/30/2009, -2/+23Yes it has something to do with it. Had console gamers not been so willing to take it up behind from MS then PC game makers would not have dared to take awayfree dedicated servers.
- SquidVet, on 10/30/2009, -1/+22What is this, a commercial?
- feebes, on 10/30/2009, -1/+21Come on guys...dedicated servers on pc are terrible for the developer and publisher. Just ask Valve what a flop TF2 is.
- mrdeadhead, on 10/30/2009, -3/+23well blizz and activision are the same company, so they had something to do with it.
they're probably saving all their servers for WoW.
also, i definitely see this being more activision's doing than IW.
everyone knows Kotick is a raging *****. - mlvassallo, on 10/30/2009, -2/+22All they need to do is take a look at Borderlands for PC. This is a 4 person game with P2P hosting and it is turning in to a nightmare just to get connected and stay connected for a multitude of users. Turn that in to 16 players trying to connect P2P, forgetaboutit.
- ortucis, on 10/30/2009, -1/+20I on the other hand, AM angy at IW for what they are doing.
- ErrorLoading, on 10/30/2009, -2/+21Your title "PC Gamer" won't mean much if you and everyone else cave in. They are raping your platform. Do not support them. That simple.
- g3w3hr, on 10/30/2009, -0/+18Dear Digg:
Just so everyone knows, if you try to:
-Call Activision Blizzard and leave a complaint, they hang up on you or send you to technical support
-Send in a complaint/comment on the Activision web site, it automatically sends you to the technical support page
-Send them an email, they just send you boilerplate back
-Contact them in any way, you just get a cold shoulder.
The only way to send ANY comments directly to them is to go to their investor relations page, which will allow you to submit comments.
I suggest everyone voice their complaints there, because if there is any group a company listens to, it is the investors. - ELCad, on 10/30/2009, -1/+19One of their excuses for removing the dedicated servers was to fight piracy.
- smoger, on 10/30/2009, -0/+18i played my uncle's 360 copy a few times and I was shocked how EMPTY the maps were compared to my PC copy. 8-16 players at a time doesn't do that game justice.
- forcedfx, on 10/30/2009, -0/+17Anyone who was around for COD4 on the PS3 knows that Infinity Ward won't change this. They took forever to fix the bugs that were in COD4. While WaW had quite a few glitches, Treyarch was pretty quick to fix them IMO.
Dedicated servers is a huge deal. Coming from someone who plays on the PS3, lag and hosts bouncing out of the game are a huge annoyance. Take my word for it... if you're used to playing on dedicated servers, you WILL be disappointed in the quality of game play. Getting stuck being the host is the worst. - EttAppel, on 10/30/2009, -1/+18Yeah Blizzard would never do a thing like this. Like Starcraft 2 without LAN......
- daviz0, on 10/30/2009, -0/+17hopefully alot of people on that list will not but that game, just to show the pc gaming community will not just accept this crap, i just read on another post that the next alien vs predator game could have dedicated servers taken off aswell
- se7envii, on 10/30/2009, -0/+17I bought Call of Duty 4 when it first came out. I will NOT be buying Modern Warfare 2 though. I'm also encouraging everyone I know to skip it as well. I'll spend my money on Borderlands or Left 4 Dead 2 instead.
- LinuxCobra, on 10/30/2009, -0/+17why would you download the console version if this only affects PC?
There never has been dedicated servers for xbox. - ProtocolDroid, on 10/30/2009, -0/+16The PC can do all of that and more. You can watch porn, listen to music, play games, download stuff, etc. all at the same time. On multiple screens.
XBL is getting Twitter and Facebook too right? Damn, if only PC had those!
And your inability to stay in a lobby sounds like your own fault. Upgrade your 56k connection. -
