Most PC gamers already say this. If Halo had come out on the PC only it would be long forgotten due to FPS PC greats such as Half Life, Unreal Tournament, etc. While it is a good, well polished game, the main reason it is successful is because it was the only good game on the Xbox when it came out. FPS games on the PC long outpaced Halo in story (Half Life 2), multiplayer (Unreal Tournament 200X, Counter Strike), and graphics (take your pick). Halo is a great console FPS game, and a mediocre/good PC FPS. And Crysis will only overshadow it even more. - Fire4Effect, on 11/02/2007, -2/+168My computer overheats from just loading the screenshots :(
- lacronicus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+146change is an understatement.
heres one for you: thealiens in this game are from freezeville, and so rely on infrared to see. but this is not some foolish plot gimmick. they actually see you as your heat signature, and so, if you hide in heat, they cant see you. stand in as much cover as you want, if everything around you is frozen, your clear as day. stand out in the open with a fire at your back, your invisible.
heres another: the devs decided that the player shoudl be able to pick up anything, including fallen trees that have been shot down. in this way, you can use fallen trees as cover, so you can use it to hide. but the AI has been taught to recognize this, so you must actually take caution when using it. the AI can tell where a tree should and should not be, so your fine in the forest, but walking along a road, no way.
heres another: say your attacking a village. you go in, fight a few of them, they call for reinforcements. but everything in crysis is put there from the beginning and is completely persistent. the AI will actually call in the reinforcements from other parts of the island. say you take out a few people, you may actually see a caravan of NK's coming to the aid of their fellows. - MrInquisitive, on 11/02/2007, -2/+65haha so you mean the AI in this game is smarter then that of Metal Gear? Too bad, I used to love running around with a cardboard box over me.

That image there is the one that made Crysis catch my attention. - MrSidnet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32two websites I usually check every few days. Ahh, who am I kidding, I check it every few hours...

http://www.crysis-online.com/index.php - greatromance, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33I wish my system could run this game :(
- hydratedsquash, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30Isn't the recommended ram for this like 1.5 gigs? I wonder if it will still look pretty running in Med. or Low settings.
- BrandonMills, on 11/02/2007, -10/+34Exactly. Halo never was anything special. It's just that console gamers were foreign to the world of decent FPS games.
The console still suffers from lack of optical mouse as a standard control for FPS games. But if MS bundled a mouse, a keyboard, and perhaps a web browser, then suddenly people would wonder why they needed a PC in the first place. We can't have that, now, can we? :)
As for how its nice to not have to own a PC to play your games, the 360 crowd is also finding out the nasty aspect about that. When say, a certain company forgets to cool your GPU, suddenly your console becomes a ticking time bomb, and your best hope is that it's still under warranty when it goes. Furthermore, the last console cycle happened before a massive upgrade in GPU power. This is going to be more and more evident as the GeForce 8 series becomes standard on PCs. The problem with consoles is that once you buy the hardware, you're pretty much stuck with that exact setup for 5 years. PCs, on the other hand, let you upgrade as you go. In 3 years, I'll be playing my games with graphics that none of the current consoles can dream it.
As for price, the price of a console has gone up, and the price of a gamer PC has gone down. With only a couple of hundred difference, and FAR more uses for a PC than a console, I think PCs for FPS games is a no brainer. - BlackKnight6, on 11/02/2007, -0/+22Farcry was an awesome game until they introduced those unbalanced Trigen near the end of the game, the ones that would whoop your ass on medium difficulty.
- LMN8R, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20According to Computer & Video Games magazine, a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of ram, and 8800GTS will run this game on *ULTRA* details. That says good things for being able to run it on low/medium/high on slower systems.
Far Cry was amazingly scalable and ran very well on systems 2+ years old upon its release. Crytek has had even more time to optimize for Crysis, not to mention a much bigger budget, and I'm sure they'll do just as well, if not better, for this game. - CWal37, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17This is where having only a laptop may become something of an issue. . .
- Quakes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17And we know everyone loves hug environments. They're so fuzzy and lovely.
- Nohj, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19It's too bad you'll have to give a testicle to be able to play the game on good settings. :/
Looks awesome, though. - SOS84, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Well, according to several sources, it is planned for release mid-September. For those of us with a Core 2 Quad/Duo capable system, Intel has another big price cut coming July 22nd with the price of their intro quad core coming in at $266. Not too bad. The 1333 fsb Core 2s will be out and priced nicely as well. I am guessing that the rest of the line will drop as well.
Nvidia has also announced that they will be dropping the price of the 8800 ultra by around $100 which means that it should push the lowest 8800gts card into the realm of the affordable before Crysis is released. Concurrently, Intel is pushing their new chipset at a fair reasonable price for a new chip. All in all, the hardware makers are making some advantagious price cuts shortly so many people with an extra couple hundred dollars should be able to play Crysis with lots of eye candy. Cannot wait. And just think, shortly thereafter Half-Life episode 2 comes out along with Team Fortress and Bioshock is also on the horizon and I am not talking about the gimped console version but the real deal. - ZippyV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13COOOOOOOONNNNNNNTTTAAAAAAAAAACCCCCTTTTTT
/Mows the whole forest down but still misses the alien. - wafflesomd, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Stop making article's comparing good games to mediocre overrated ones.
- lardoandkeg, on 10/11/2007, -11/+22the game does sound amazing from what i have read, but from what i understand you have to have directx 10 to really get all the benefits.
- SourWorm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I'm pretty sure I just saw a tear fall from my computer.
- MrInquisitive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11good point but you are most likely going to need a new video card to support this game.
- Juaquin, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17Why does everyone always complain that boo-hoo their computer won't handle it, the "average" computer won't handle it? That's the point! If we never pushed graphics to the bleeding edge of hardware, then hardware would never need to improve. How about we just keep making games with the same level graphics so that "normal" computers can play them? You'll still be playing on Halo-era graphics forever. Sometimes you have to push the limits a bit. If you don't want to upgrade to play, don't. But it will run on moderate hardware at moderate settings. Also, they have it running on DX9 so I'm pretty sure you won't need to upgrade to Vista to use it. Stop complaining and game on.
- neocitron, on 10/11/2007, -12/+22PC gaming is great if you have the money to spend 400 bucks a year consistently upgrading your system to meet the high requirements for games...
If you don't find spending at least 300 bucks a year practical, a console is the more economic choice if you already have a nice TV.
That being said, i've been following crysis (although i use OS X) and i've always known it was the best looking game, period.. Gameplay and Story are kinda murky right now. - n3xu5, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12I want a decent MMOFPS
- lacronicus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10the things that dx10 adds are things that you'd never miss if you'd never seen, but couldn't live without if you have. the smoke reacts to wind. in MP power struggle, the time of day changes dynamically. such things you dont have in other games anyway, so youd never miss them, but nice to have, and that much more immersive.
- popothebright, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Half Life pretty much tore Halo to shreds...
- BlackKnight6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9DX10 is just graphics and performance benefits, albeit great looking, you still get all the gameplay and physics features in XP and with a DX9 card.

- yournamehere, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Tippis,
Doom3 was even worse for that. At least Far Cry took place in a hug environment unlike Doom3 - stints, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9You missed the point entirely.
- h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10"thealiens in this game are from freezeville, and so rely on infrared to see. but this is not some foolish plot gimmick. they actually see you as your heat signature, and so, if you hide in heat, they cant see you. stand in as much cover as you want, if everything around you is frozen, your clear as day. stand out in the open with a fire at your back, your invisible."
They must be some ugly *****. Do they want your skull? - kazem, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Mmmm....Predator was such a great film.
- Buckiller, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13Seriously... I play PC and xbox... and Halo was revolutionary back then... I first read about it in PCGAMER!!! Talking about how revolutionary the AI was etc. The vehicles in Halo were also amazing.
@choco... so you are comparing each aspect of halo to an insanely awesome PC game? That means Halo is a combination of all those games... It has an amazing story like HL, amazing multiplayer like UT200X, and graphics on par with awesome PC games back then. - bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I upgraded my computer about six years ago for about $600 and it's just now in need of an update.
- NicksVideo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11You'd think, with a post that large, you'd actually bother to run it through a word processor.
Still, makes the game sound damn good. - ThatEvilGuy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The box art looks amazing too!
http://www.crysis-online.com/images/news/box_art/Crysis%20Box%20Art%202.jpg - skyfire1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I hope I won't need Croaksis to play this like I needed Oldblivion to play Oblivion.
- tdawson2012, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6In the words of the Geico caveman, "What?"
- MotleyTool, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I saw the crysis engine running at GDC this year, and it looked amazing. What has been conveniently left out of every piece of publicity though is that no average Joe has a machine powerful enough to run it. At GDC, they went out of their way to hide the beast that was running the editor ( I asked several times and was shuffled away). So it does indeed look amazing, but I can say that for dozens of games in pre-release (Assasins Creed, Alan Wake, Bioshock). I will wait to see what the released version looks like, because it is all spin until that point.
- jake8689, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9how can you be excited about a game ware all you saw was a cg trailer and the first one wasn't even that good it was just okay
- starfighter01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Hey, if you want stunning graphics and a complex environment, you have to have a lot of processing power, video memory, and RAM. That shouldn't surprise anyone.
- Furkle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6uhhh, yes?
- kazem, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Here here!
- MrSidnet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You're completly right. But I've been following Crysis for a while, and it does look real fun to play. And the editor...well, that's another thing im looking forward to.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6and you still wont get laid...
- yournamehere, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7logan,
you compare live footage in crysis to pre-rendered in killzone? - JayRD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Many games killed Halo long ago. Halo is just a console juggernaut nothing more.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6That is what the article mostly talks about, the gameplay. Visit these sites and check some of the videos where the devs discuss all the things they are doing about the enemies, weapons, character abilities, level paths, interaction with physics, etc.

(Dumb comment system, sorry for the double post, its a little confusing now, especially if you refresh the page) - BlackKnight6, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Alot of people are throwing around some ideas you need a killer system to run Crysis, you only need one to run it at max. They already have said in need a minimum of:
Later generation, single core Intel P4, or later generation AMD Athlon 64
DX9 SM 2.0 compliant video card (6 series Nvidia and Xxxx series ATi, has been suggested minimum cards)
XP
1GB of ram - BlackKnight6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Thanks English Nazi. Next time I will assume people have no common sense or ability to think around a typo.
