- Nathrat, on 10/21/2008, -12/+157I have a feeling this game is going to be huge.
- TwwIX, on 10/22/2008, -4/+103EA is involved. They're bound to ***** it up somehow. If it's half as good as Pre-Nge SWG, i may consider buying it.
- staffell, on 10/22/2008, -11/+96Oh jesus no! Goodbye free time, goodbye friends, goodbye life! :(
- Po0py, on 10/22/2008, -3/+85Read: Bioware just announced Star Wars: Old Republic MMORPG
- Guitarist970, on 10/22/2008, -4/+77I've been able to avoid the MMORPG craze so far....but I've got a bad feeling about this
- Mawds, on 10/22/2008, -2/+66Clouded this games future is.
- MondoPest, on 10/21/2008, -2/+53I have high hopes for it but am concerned about the cartoony graphics. KOTOR always had a nice realistic feel to it.
- cbrunet, on 10/22/2008, -13/+62Why did it have to be an MMO...? Oh well, maybe they'll make a real KOTOR 3 at some point. *sigh*
- JWCrease, on 10/22/2008, -12/+53Give me KOTOR 3. IF I was into MMO I would play Warcraft. But I'm not, so I don't, so this sucks.
- bjornski, on 10/22/2008, -9/+49That's what people said about SW:Galaxies, too.
And it sucked. - krustie, on 10/22/2008, -1/+34I'd much rather KOTOR 3, i need closure!
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -2/+34Join the dark-side, feel the power of the PC.
- bjornski, on 10/22/2008, -0/+32Very few MMOs work on consoles.
- cbrunet, on 10/22/2008, -4/+35I guess you've never actually played a KOTOR game then Chris? Nor a Jedi Knight title? Or Shadows of the Empire? X-Wing VS Tie-Fighter? Even Force Unleashed? Rogue Squadron? Racer? Battlefront? LEGO Star Wars?
It's cool, you can probably assume they weren't good. Oh wait.... - limerope, on 10/22/2008, -2/+31If you type "gay sex" into any porn search engine, I guarantee you'll get far far gayer photos.
- ketchupwfries, on 10/22/2008, -2/+31SWG was great when it was first released. The months prior to the combat upgrade were so much fun. So many professions to choose from and so much to explore. Jedi were in hiding (I was 2nd unlocked Force Sensitive on Valcyn server) and we weren't swinging our lightsabers around like party favors.
... Then SOE raped us with their big black ***** by making change after change in order to appeal to a larger audience (ie WoW).
I managed to get out just in time before they left too many scars... and just in time to sell my account for $1,400 on craigslist and fly myself to Puerto Rico for a week.... In the end, I think it all evened out.
BioWare made KOTOR and Mass Effect. I have some faith this mmo will be pretty good and not the same recycled ***** like WoW, Warhammer, etc. - akimbo, on 10/22/2008, -4/+32it was actually pretty good... until they added some 'enhancements' later.
- BobbyMC, on 10/22/2008, -5/+32Anyone who talks ***** about the original Star Wars Galaxies doesn't know jack *****. WoW is a child's toy compared to that game. A vast majority of those who talk ***** about SWG either have 0 concept of what the game was or think they do and still fail to account for how vastly different the game was from what it is now and from every other MMO ever made, period.
The reason they crashed is they decided to listen to the whiny players who demanded to be a Jedi. Before all that nonsense the game mechanic for becoming a Jedi wasn't even actually turned on, because the game was better for it. The economy of the original SWG was a beautiful thing that relied on something like 50 different skill trees which each offered a completely unique gameplay experience. Jedi were one of many idiot complaints that completely destroyed the game, but the biggest mistake was the devs forgetting the cardinal rule of developing an MMO. That is, the player knows jack *****.
TOR has the potential to be amazing, but don't you ever confuse that with what SWG could have been if nursed properly. - ICSU, on 10/22/2008, -0/+27Like you have that now. ;)
- Spuy767, on 10/22/2008, -2/+28You clearly didn't play Pre CU. If they converted SWG back to what it was Pre CU, I know droves of people who would go back and play it. It had one of the best sandboxes ever attempted in an online game. The world was your oyster as it were.
- sweetpants153, on 10/22/2008, -4/+30If you think graphics make a game fun then you're lame.
- dharcha1, on 10/22/2008, -2/+26i have a bad feeling about this...
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -8/+30Faith in Lucas, you must have.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -7/+28Let's hope they don't do to KOTOR what George Lucas did to the movies
- tapo, on 10/22/2008, -5/+25A Mac version is one of the reasons WoW is so damn popular. Mac notebooks are increasingly prevalent among college students. At my college, it's damn near 50%.
Even though I have PCs, many of my friends have Macs. So while I can play MMOs like WoW or EVE with them, games I've purchased like Pirates of the Burning Sea or Age of Conan are just abandoned. MMOs just aren't fun if you can't play with your friends. - derbestemann, on 10/22/2008, -8/+27"much more stylized"...
way to ruin a perfectly good franchise by turning it into kid's stuff. again. - staffell, on 10/22/2008, -0/+19do you even play video games?
- azymux, on 10/22/2008, -3/+20After the debacle that was SWG, I don't see this working out much better.
"The game looks to have a much more stylized look in contrast to the original KOTOR, almost 'cartoonish', which could upset some fans. Players will be able to join up as a Jedi or Sith initiate and also have other classes available to play as well." - LoveWidescreen, on 10/22/2008, -2/+19Whatever. I'm not buying any more RPGs/FPSs from LucasArts.
Hey, LucasArts! How about a new game to put me back in the cockpit of an X-Wing or TIE fighter, goddamn it!! - inactive, on 10/22/2008, -28/+44Money Making Ordinary Role Playing Game
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+16Does anyone have screencaps by chance? If the graphics at all akin to "Clone Wars," it'd be a total deal-breaker for me.
- DreKor, on 10/22/2008, -1/+17SWG launched with everything right. God I miss that game.
- WoollyMittens, on 10/22/2008, -0/+16Bioware always had problems balancing the economy of their single player RPG's. You always end up with a zillion credits about halfway through and an inventory full of the best gear. I hope they manage to take some extra time to balance a multiplayer RPG.
- krad23, on 10/22/2008, -3/+18I'm glad Bioware is working on this. When they passed KOTOR 2 onto Obsidian it was a disappointment.
- Cerialthriller, on 10/22/2008, -2/+17because there are no USB ports on the xbox360 so that you can hookup a keyboard and mouse like people did for FFXI. oh wait
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -3/+17Agreed. MMO's are one step too far. I like having a life.
- rectifier, on 10/22/2008, -1/+15I guess Blizzard's secret mmo will be announced in next 6 months and will be scifi. There is room for 2 leading MMOs - one with dragons and goblins and the other with space ships and robots .. yes I have played wow.
- cbrunet, on 10/22/2008, -0/+14If Bioware has the ability to make a good Sonic game, I have faith in a good Star Wars MMO.
- thinboyslim, on 10/22/2008, -0/+14Lucas + EA = ***** 'em all over!
- Eurynom0s, on 10/22/2008, -0/+14It wasn't Obsidian's fault, it's known fact that Lucas Arts forced them to rush the game to get it out by Christmas. Look at how a lot of individual game/story sequences were so much cooler and/or epic feeling than what you got to do in KOTOR 1; it's not Obsidian's fault they weren't allowed to finish.
- Tubbles, on 10/22/2008, -2/+15Lucas has ***** with faith more than L. Ron Hubbard.
- KaiUno, on 10/22/2008, -1/+14@UnderscoreMan
... and thus ruining the thing because a LOT of us were happy to be non Jedi. As it was supposed to be in that time in that galaxy so and so far away.
I actually dreaded the visit of the old man. - apackofmonkeys, on 10/22/2008, -5/+18I know. I'm not buying a damn game where you pay 50 bucks for the game, then shell out almost 200 bucks a year to be allowed to play it. I'm sick of MMORPGs because it takes development time away from the games I WILL buy. I tried the WoW trial, and although it was really fun, it wasn't any more fun than a game without monthly "rent".
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+12To be fair, to a large extent AoC was abandoned because it was utter crap. Maybe if they'd spent more time polishing the game and trying to actually make it *fun* instead of desperately trying to "Not Be Warcraft"....
- awtripp, on 10/22/2008, -2/+14This game is going to be another clone. I'm bored of the mandatory 'choose your side!' It's ***** dumb and limits so many aspects of the game. Why can't I be a neutral merchant or mercenary? Making you choose sides sucks and I'm sick of this template. Throw me into a world and let me decide where my character goes with my actions.
- dweeb79, on 10/22/2008, -0/+11Everyone is acting like it will be released within the next 6 months. We probably won't see this game for at least 12 - 18 months and that's if we're lucky.
Plenty of time to not give a sh*t. - inactive, on 10/22/2008, -2/+13I sense fear in the game, it must not be released!
- megido, on 10/22/2008, -1/+12This could be awesome...as long as the absolutely do not listen to the players. That is what killed SWG.
- Mawds, on 10/22/2008, -0/+11They do make the some good games now and again, but it's their desire to completely dominate the games industry that is the most worrying.
