- gglynn07, on 10/17/2007, -0/+21Join ABC this fall in the spinoff show, "Half My Life is Lost"
- Dares, on 10/19/2007, -2/+19Really? A Dharma and Greg joke?
- houndeyex, on 10/16/2007, -1/+14Time... Dr. Freeman?
- Metoz, on 10/24/2007, -1/+12So wake up Mr. Freeman, wake up and smell the ashes.
- duddles, on 10/16/2007, -2/+12Oh, she's got an initiative, just ask Xenu.
- reuscel, on 10/17/2007, -1/+8Programmers and game designers are into one of the smartest/nerdiest shows in the history of television? Color me surprised.

Text:Apparently, the design team working on Half-Life Episode 2 are fans of the ABC TV show, Lost.
Kotaku received an email with the above screenshot clearly showing a symbol on the wall that mimics the logo of Lost’s Dharma Initiative.
It doesn’t stop there! - Kotaku also received a seperate email the day before from another member saying he had spotted Lost’s mysterious string of numbers, “4 8 15 16 23 42″ on a CRT computer screen in a blocked off room of the game’s second level. Unfortunately he didn’t include a screenshot however, given the above, his story is probably true.
If any of our ComNetters stumble upon any Lost references, please leave us a comment. I will contact you and post any relative info for everyone else (don’t forget to take a screenshot)
What are the chances of the HL2 team letting us in on what the island really is?? - psht! - kamikaze87, on 10/16/2007, -1/+6Actually in Portal there are a few hidden spots where you can find white cans with black text simply labeled "Beans" and "Water" I had wondered if this was a connection to Lost but now it seems clear that it is.
- bobnease, on 10/16/2007, -7/+11I love it!
- kamikaze87, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4I hear in multiplayer if you open up the console and type 'exit' you get god mode.
- tmbrwolf19, on 10/16/2007, -1/+5Well I think in the show, each complex has a different symbol in the middle, but they all have that same octagon on the outside. So it could be in keeping with that.
- illies, on 10/16/2007, -1/+5The tipster is a little bit off, the numbers don't appear until near the end of the game. After you reach the White Forest base you should eventually enter a room with a vortigaunt in a lab coat. To see the CRT with the numbers jump on the desk and then to the top of a cabinet on the right side of the room. Look behind the cabinet into the next room and you can clearly see the CRT with the numbers. If you have the commentary track enabled there will even be a commentary node back there. It explains that Gabe Newell promised the creators of LOST that he would include a LOST reference somewhere in Episode 2.
- gn0stik, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3So is Dharma run by the combine then? A sort of first coming in the past, and all the tech and experiments are combine experients gone bad? Awesome
- krets, on 10/16/2007, -2/+5Oh yeah, I went there...

- ubergeek09, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3That's awesome! I am a big fan of lost and of the Half Life series :).
- Shadowdev, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2My first thought was what in the hell is the different between a "lost easter egg" and a "found easter egg" then I read the rest and proceeded to feel retarded.
- AngelicRaver, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Care to enlighten on references? Ive missed them.
- themastersb, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3Blame the newfags.
- gulp35, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2the commentary track proves that this is more than coincidence.
This video has the commentary in it (1:48 in).

(note: i did not make this video, i found it in the comments on Kotaku's page) - visje, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2im starting to think of a crossover between lost and half-life.
- TheZorch, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2I love Half-Life 2, while most other games have dumb as dirt opponents who follow pre-scripted instructions the enemies in HL2 use a vry damn good AI, just like UT2k4 and UT3.
- Haecceity, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2It's "Hurley's," not Hurlys." Can no one use a freaking apostrophe anymore?
- insinuate, on 10/15/2007, -2/+4Uh oh a server running wordpress that is down due to traffic...let the bashing begin!
- kidd3ckz, on 10/15/2007, -3/+5stop supporting hosts that cannot withstand a couple thousand hits a second. its bad for our economy.

- cliffdogg, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the smoke monster is in there somewhere...
- synchestric, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2The Portal trailer that was around some months ago was exactly like Dharma's Orientation videos.
- econojon, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2GMAN VISITS LOST!!!!! NO JOKE!!!! OMGZ!!!!!

- krets, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry, did I forget the boring old "X + Y = AWESOME!" format? I'll try harder next time.
- kinggimped, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Just as long as they don't rename 'Dog' to 'Vincent'.
- fibreoptix, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1That's awesome. I know that in one episode in season 1 (I think) you see the Iraqi's friends playing Half Life.
- Tanath, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I love Lost. They did this thing called the Lost experience, where if you're the curious type, and follow certain leads in the show you can find more background info & stuff online that immerses you. I found this out when I noticed the end of the first film said copyright "The Hanso Foundation". Naturally I googled it, and followed the clues (they set up websites)... I found out what the numbers mean, what the island is for, etc. The info is out there. :D
Other shows are doing this stuff too, but I was impressed with how much work they put into it for Lost. - JudgeMonkey, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Ah yea, when I saw that screen shot I was going to ask if that was a commentary node sticking out of the bottom there.
- Boognish, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1When I first played it I wrote the numbers down thinking I would need it later, oblivious to the connection. Awesome!
- krets, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Apparently a humorless void. Thanks for that.
- nickj6282, on 10/16/2007, -1/+2Ok, I think everyone may have forgotten that it's unnecessary to put anything other than http://www.duggmirror.com/ since DuggMirror will automagically get your referrer and redirect you to the right page.

- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1Theres one hidden in this post to.
☸ - timdorr, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1It's a Lost reference: http://kotaku.com/gaming/easter-egg/the-lost-numbe ...
- NSMike, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1To everyone replying to me, take a look at my link first. The commentary only talks about the numbers, not the symbol.
- HueytheFreeman, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Interestingly enough there's an awesome Lost map (de_lost2) for Counter-Strike Source made by Nipper (if you've played Counter-Strike 1.6 or Source you should know who this guy is). http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/20724
- i208khonsu, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1They explained this in the commentary for Ep2. Lost has a few references to Half-Life so they returned the favor.
