- SuperGreen420, on 12/21/2007, -2/+174Just what in the hell is going on over at 3D Realms anyway?
2007 Staff Meeting
"So how is everyone doing?"
"I got divorced"
"We just had our 3rd child."
"Great, so what's new in the world?"
"Well this social news stuff is pretty big..."
"So what fun can we do with that?
"Well... we could render a few frames and release it as a teaser.. See how many Diggs we get?"
"Fantastic, let's do that." - thenativeraver, on 12/21/2007, -6/+67Hey, the wii's not on the list.
- dual, on 12/21/2007, -1/+62"Also, thanks to Wikipedia nerds who spend so much time listing weird things like every game Mario is in." lol :)
- navster15, on 12/21/2007, -0/+58This article was like reading the Web 2.0 version of Billie Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" except a million times more nerdy. Needless to say I love it :).
- ExSlashdotter, on 12/21/2007, -0/+54"The United States' entire program to put a man on the moon, from Kennedy's challenge to the landing."
I think that one really makes the point. Its taken longer to make that friggin game than to put a man on the moon for the first time. - kakwakas, on 12/21/2007, -0/+48I've decided I'm not going to buy DNF until 10 years after it's released.
- shifty2, on 12/21/2007, -1/+48funny you mention that...
From their wiki:
"3D Realms has stated that it will not support the Wii. In a blog post, Scott Miller stated that he believed the system would be a "distant third" behind the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that the system would be Nintendo's last."
you know, because they have SO many big projects they need to finish... - nonstop87, on 12/21/2007, -5/+48Buried as inaccurate Bush getting voted into office twice isn't under disasters.
- shifty2, on 12/21/2007, -0/+42I think the real question is how were the employees being paid for so long.
They haven't really DEVELOPED any games since 1997 w/ Shadow Warrior (which I actually still have the CD for).
Since 97, they either published or helped produce some games, some of which are pretty big...
11 Duke Nukem spin offs (minor, never heard of the majority of them)
Max Payne 1 and 2 (quite a huge hit)
Prey (probably their best selling game to date)
Unless they have a staff of 4 including a janitor, they must be pulling some SERIOUS royalties and contracts with the 11 Duke Nukem spin offs and w/ Max Payne and Prey. How can you sustain a decent salary, company expenses and employee benefits off just that??
on the other hand, sitting around the office doing writing one line of code a day for 11 years must be nice... - DarkGrim, on 12/21/2007, -0/+32And the world is most likely to end in 2012 without Duke Nukem - Forever ever being in the hands of the consumers.
- Typhoon2009, on 12/21/2007, -10/+42World War II was shorter than DNF's development time.
- Niallgriff, on 12/21/2007, -0/+31..That you know of....
- xb00t, on 12/21/2007, -2/+333D Realms just got owned hard. I don't think they can recover to finish the game now.
- D3koy, on 12/21/2007, -1/+31I can almost guarentee DNF will be better than WWII....
- Takran, on 12/21/2007, -1/+25Yes, the article does, in fact, say this! Congratulations.
- SuperGreen420, on 12/21/2007, -4/+28I'll just download the best torrent of it actually.
- Pritchard, on 12/21/2007, -1/+24trallie, are you ***** retarded?
- br0wnstar, on 12/21/2007, -1/+20"Every Marvel comics movie released."
False. Completely forgot the George Lucas-produced masterpiece "Howard the Duck"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PVb2xZn2gqY - D3koy, on 12/21/2007, -1/+20This is the first time I've ever seen someone _defend_ not RTFA
- phantom_mullet, on 12/21/2007, -0/+19Damn, The Theory of Relativity took less time to develop than Duke Nukem Forever...
That game is gonna be AWESOME. - nakani, on 12/21/2007, -1/+19Remember the holocaust? Yeah, OPPOSITE of that!
- Lax32, on 12/21/2007, -0/+18I still remember when the development of the gun set the game back a couple years... they just couldn't release a game with a guy shooting a bow...
- Bhima, on 12/21/2007, -1/+18I was thinking that pangea dispersed
- VIPAccess, on 12/21/2007, -3/+18Best. List. Ever.
- wilf_brim, on 12/21/2007, -1/+15Dugg for:
Pointing out that TeamFortress 2 FINALLY made it out (and it is awesome).
Taking the obligatory cheap (but awesome, nonetheless) shot at John Romero by pointing out that Daiktana stated development at the same time. - inactive, on 12/21/2007, -0/+14 I was hoping for a more comprehensive list.
- shifty2, on 12/21/2007, -0/+13my bad, i forgot to add "/sarcasm" at the end of my last statement...
/sarcam, is SO 2007... /sarcasm - sam10685, on 12/21/2007, -1/+12Also, last time i checked, New Orleans was still there. Just in pretty bad shape.
- georgemason01, on 12/21/2007, -0/+9You just called yourself an ass.
- Flycken, on 12/21/2007, -0/+9Thrallie, you amaze me at your lack of ability to sense the sarcasm in Shifty's comment.
- Combat, on 12/21/2007, -0/+8I actually can't wait for the game to come out. I think back to playing the older duke nukem games and let's just admit it, they were some of the most fun first person shooters out at the time. Duke Nukem Rocks. It may not live up to hype, but I'll buy it anyway.
- mattcoady, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7... I think you saw the 2001 trailer
- JapaneseEconomy, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7That game sucked, you played as an old jewish theoretical physicist who'd always forgot to put his shoes on when going to work
- Dwebtron, on 12/21/2007, -0/+6According to some of the developers its very close to being done.
Yeah, it's been almost done for about 7 years now. - Arramol, on 12/21/2007, -0/+6Gotta love the bit about the lunar landing and Mars rover projects both taking less time than the development of Duke Nukem Forever.
- cambob76, on 12/21/2007, -2/+8Calm down psycho.
- icemanxp, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5Yes but now they have quad cores surely they are now at least 2x faster
- JapaneseEconomy, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5Wrong. Your getting Bush senior mixed up with Abraham Lincoln.
- inactive, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5give it ten years
- ienable, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6It looks like their site was designed in '97, the video in '98, and waited 10 years to ***** with everyone.
- SteveMax, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5Jewish people will try to kill all living Germans?
- TheTjalian, on 12/21/2007, -0/+5You know your game is taking a VERY long time when there's been 3 presidential elections in between the time you announce your game and you release the game.
- inactive, on 12/21/2007, -2/+7But no one has died due to developing Duke Nuken Forever.
- stillboy, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4well, the clock speed is still the same... despite the fact that the software is not taking advantage. If the software is able to sufficiently divide the processing to each core, it could be twice as fast. *****.
- cyborgcommando0, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5I love how TF2 is bolded, the other game that was never going to be released
- yayster, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4Will it have a clip of OJ's white bronco?
- BebopCowboy, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5Maybe they should release the games thus far code to the community and let some of the unemployed nerds of the world try and compete to see who gets it done first.
- inactive, on 12/21/2007, -4/+8Most. Annoying. Overused. And. Long. Since. Considered. Over. Posting. Style. Ever.
- JapaneseEconomy, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5Duke Nukem did.
- fullphaser, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4maybe 20
