- relaxeder, on 07/12/2009, -1/+51WHERE IS EPISODE THREE
- Wesside, on 07/11/2009, -2/+45I know EA is putting this on the disc, but do they really need to be named? They aren't making the game Valve is.
- vaguilera, on 07/12/2009, -8/+46you mean the second campaign of the L4D expansion right? *wink*wink*
- khaosx2030, on 07/12/2009, -5/+38People are pissed because you normally don't release a sequel to a multiplayer game on such short notice.
The original's community is going to be butchered by the release of L4D2. - Nintendesert, on 07/12/2009, -1/+31It needs more Zoey.
- sexybobo, on 07/12/2009, -0/+25According to http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2afterma ... Episode 3 will be released by the end of 2007.
- DeusGear, on 07/12/2009, -11/+34Horay for paying full price for an expansion pack.
- s4g4n, on 07/12/2009, -5/+27I hate Electronic Arts...
- deweyhewson, on 07/12/2009, -2/+18Valve keeps promising Left 4 Dead won't be (pardon) left for dead, but what has been released that was promised? A big fat nothing.
The first "big" pack finally included maps in versus that were already in the game and a "new" game mode that any decent modder could have created in 10 minutes (add barriers, add timer, done.) The second "big" pack supposedly "fixed" matchmaking so that it worked how it should have worked in the first place, although I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever. The SDK was promised to be available from release, but it was just barely let out the door a month ago.
They still haven't fixed the bugs in the game like boomer bile missing survivors right in front of you, tanks spawning in fire or right in the front of the survivors, tanks spawning right at the beginning of the level, hunters pouncing through survivors, smokers tongue breaking for no reason, and the list goes on and on.
And you believe they'll release more content? *****. Why would they release anything for the beta test that is Left 4 Dead when it would just undercut sales of the full-priced expansion?
As someone who owns everything they've ever released I never thought I'd say this, but ***** Valve. - schwab002, on 07/12/2009, -2/+14Valve has spoiled us with tons of free content for TF2, and fans came to expect the same thing for L4D. L4D2 spoils that idea, but it's probably just a bad idea to compare L4D2 to the TF2 class packs...or I at least hope that L4D2 is expansive enough that it's a bad idea to compare to two.
- s4g4n, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12Read it again with Francis's voice.
- PlusTheBear, on 07/12/2009, -16/+27***** L4D2
- harpoonhank420, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10money
- pixeldust, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7"It's all about money, folks. Valve and Blizzard don't love you as fans, they love you for your wallet contents."
No ***** sherlock, Valve and Blizzard are what we in the real world like to call businesses. - Stryke, on 07/12/2009, -3/+10Nah, L4D didn't really have a story to follow. Each campaign was just a new setting with no continuity from the previous. I'm sure this one will be the same... which is why this game should just be a ***** expansion. ಠ_ಠ
- getoffmybridge, on 07/12/2009, -3/+10You don't have to pay anything, you could not play it.
- vaguilera, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7Woot! almost there! ....oh wait.
- Sakumi, on 07/12/2009, -4/+11What a load of crock. They are still releasing new content for TF2, but magically L4D would have been too hard to keep up.
VALVe will not be getting my money this time around. - chaos7, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7i'll buy L4D2 if it's ever $25 or less on Steam
- Modiga, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6Large barren wastelands are enough to miff most people the first time round.
- Rystic, on 07/12/2009, -2/+8Don't you mean D2U?
- deweyhewson, on 07/12/2009, -3/+9Firstly, ***** you.
Secondly, if you're making $25 an hour you're doing just a tad better than almost everyone else in society.
Thirdly, it's not about how many hours we've got out of the game. It's about being given what we were promised, namely constant content updates and continued focus on the game by Valve. Since E3 it has been revealed that Valve had been working on Left 4 Dead 2 since the first one was released, meaning that they pretty much abandoned on their word to support the first right from the get go. They had no intention of keeping their promises to the community and instead released a half-finished game to gain access to paying beta testers in order to work on the second.
We were lied to, misled, and now are being ignored. That means a whole lot more to me in terms of where I'll spend my next $50 on games than the single aspect of hours played.
So call us crybabies if you wish, but I, for one, would rather not just bend over and take it from a company that clearly cares more about their bottom line than they do about their (formally) loyal community. - qwertydvorak, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5@theonlywizdum: "These people should have been bitching when L4D1 was released, because it was really only half a game. L4D2 is the more complete game."
They weren't bitching because they were promised updates that would make it a whole game.
Newell said that Valve's support of the game post-launch will be essential for growing the community.
He said: "One of the things that we're doing is we seem to be in a transition between games as a package product and games more of a service. So if you look at Team Fortress 2, one of things that's really helped grow the community is the continuous updates, where we release new maps, new character classes, new unlockables, new weapons. And we tell the stories about the characters, like the meet the sniper, or meet the sandwich. And that ongoing delivery of content really seems to grow the community.
"So each time we've released one of those for Team Fortress 2 we've seen about a 20% increase in the number of people who are playing online. And that number is really important because it determines how many community created maps there are, how many servers are running, and so on. So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time." - PlusTheBear, on 07/12/2009, -1/+6Save your money for Ep3
- Yomoska, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5That's not all their fault, Microsoft wants to charge for the DLC on Live, Valve doesn't.
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4In L4D each campaign is it's own "story". There is no real story to the game, just more of a make your way to a safe room and at the end call a rescue vehicle. There is no connection from one campaign to another, which is where I think the game went wrong in my opinion. Hopefully in L4D2 they will at least connect the campaigns so it feels like a longer game. So to conclude, you don't need to have played the first one to be able to play the second, although I do recommend playing the first just because flaws aside, it is an excellent game.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Sloi has some issues...
- ProtocolDroid, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Gabe ate it.
- DeusGear, on 07/12/2009, -3/+7You miss the point that l4d1 will be KILLED off instantly the moment l4d2 comes out meaning users paid 49.99 to play a beta version of what l4d was supposed to be.
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/12/2009, -1/+5Too bad they screwed everyone with TF2 content on XBox360. They promised DLC, yet it's been 2 years and nothing has been released.
- KingFog, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3If Valve were to release Class packs for 360 like the do for PC, Microsoft would force them to make users pay for each and every one...
Valve has said numerous times 360 owners should not have to pay for the updates, so they are going to roll many (if not all) the class packs into one update, which Microsoft cannot force Valve to charge for... - jurassiqpark, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3because you only have 1 dad.
- IHaveCrayons, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4My only problem is they're shopping L4D2 as a sequel when it is really an expansion. New weapons, new campaigns, new zombies? That'd be an expansion pack. I mean... look at Half-Life -> Half-Life 2... that's a true sequel. MGS3 -> MGS4 etc. etc.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -2/+5I feel like this. Also, people who bought the original l4d should have some kind of deal. I've been playing CS:S for 4 years now, and it's still as fun as the day I got it. That's what I expect from Valve. But...I just don't know what the hell they were thinking with this release. For those of us into MMORPG's, it would be like waiting until the majority of characters reached level 80, and then releasing WOW2.
- schwab002, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Well new guns and maps were all apart of the free TF2 updates, and that's basically all the L4D fans want. The big issue here is that they're going to have to shell out $50 more to get it, but I guess there will be enough new content to make it worth it. Valve better make it worth it. Otherwise this is just going to be a misfire, and should have been free or priced around $20 as an expansion.
- PlusTheBear, on 07/12/2009, -4/+6There isn't a Don't Buy next to the digg button, so I'm going with the only power we have as consumers now.
- undercoverDrunk, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4As mad as everyone is over their $50 (or $30) remember that L4D was a FUN game and worth every $. The reputation of Valve (and what they said...) may have you think you were getting oh so much more. You can be pissed you bought a "beta" game but you could have bought any number of games that sucked from beginning to no support end. C&C3? Spore?
Some great games live on by their awesomeness ala CS and Starcraft. Some great games die from lack of support as in C&C: Generals. And other games just sucked and every dollar spent would have been better used to light a fire.
L4D is dead. We all know it. Move on. Or don't buy the game. - KJSatz, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Well when they released L4D they said there would be free DLC for PC, and a lot of people (myself included) paid $50 expecting at least a couple more campaigns from Valve. But no.
- theonlywizdum, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2And Valve has had to pay Microsoft for all those "free" DLC updates you xbox360 users have already downloaded.
- sexybobo, on 07/12/2009, -1/+3They have nothing to do with this game. Buy it on steam and they wont get any cash for it.
- JollyDumple, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2You mean comments like the ones he described, or comments that describe other comments? Either way, I completely agree.
- BILLYBOBJOEBOB, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Needs more BILL.
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4They needed to have more campaigns, and made them longer, that's where they went wrong IMHO. The campaigns are too short, and have no connection to each other, making the game feel really repetitive because it's the same thing, just in a different setting, repeated 4 times.
- Firgof, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2IN DEVELOPMENT AT VALVE NORTH AND ALSO ON AN OFFSITE NETWORK FOR STORAGE/BACKUP PURPOSES.
- DeusGear, on 07/12/2009, -3/+5Face it. L4D will die the moment l4d2 comes out despite valve saying it won't (would you really wanna go back to l4d1 with all the new updates for l4d2?). If they just made it an expansion both user bases would be happy and the game would sell much more at non retail price.
- t4m5t3r, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2I totally get teh "flaming bullets" thing, but the truth is, L4D was a PC game ported to console, i think L4D 2 is gonna be the other way about, the flaming bullets are for the kids!!
Another good example fo this is rainbow six vegas, the first?> good story, good maps, voice acting (well as good as ubisoft gets) tactical-ish gameplay. Vega 2? Made for kids chaff. 20 nades, health regenrated twice as fast.
Money, money, money. sorry guys the days of the "cult classic" are gone, its got to be generic, interchangable and "safe" if its to get made nowadays.
(although im also rpetty sure L4D2 is just a mod of the first one and now EA have got their claws into it we'll have one a year, EA style) - themastersb, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2EA: The physical manifestation of all of mankind's collective sins.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4I hate ***** comments like this.
- messiah, on 07/12/2009, -8/+10What the ***** is everyone bitchin about. I have about 50 custom L4D maps/campaigns loaded now, and I will still be buying L4D2 and playing both. Its a great game and Im sure L4D2 will be as well. Stop whinging and be thankful that someone actually created a good game.
- chongli, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2They aren't rewriting the AI director, they're adding a few new features to it.
Even if they were, there's no reason they couldn't put it out as an expansion. -
