- fydo, on 06/25/2008, -4/+48I am playing Quake 3 RIGHT NOW.
I'm also a master of multitasking. - gnotDigger, on 06/25/2008, -31/+70death to counterstrike, long live quake 3.
- freezerburn666, on 06/26/2008, -8/+44i'm still playing your mom
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -4/+40apples to oranges...
- CasinoJack, on 06/26/2008, -2/+33Carmack is a bit of a legend and he's always been way ahead of his times - I do wonder what PC gaming would be like today if he hadn't have been around. For a great read on the subject, checkout 'Masters of Doom'.
- SethEllis, on 06/26/2008, -2/+31I am currently in the Beta for Quake Live, and I agree that this game could see massive player counts. The game is pretty much an exact copy of the old Quake 3 with small tweaks here and there to maps etc. The game play is exactly the same.
The only real difference between Quake3 and Quake Live is that Quake Live is extremely accessible. You download and start the game from your browser.
I would highly recommend getting your hands on an invite if you can. - Slashered, on 06/25/2008, -5/+31I'm still playing Quake 2
- warholsbluecat, on 06/26/2008, -1/+25Still playing Rise of the Triad
- netgeek06, on 06/25/2008, -7/+28It is going to be a big hit for sure.
- Slashered, on 06/26/2008, -3/+24CS could be solely responsible for the decline in deathmatch shooters and the creation of hundreds of ill-fated clones since then. CS is great, but shooting rockets at and lightning at people is where it's at.
'It could only be more awesome if it had ***** and was on fire.' - Nemic, on 06/26/2008, -2/+23I'm still playing Doom.
- inotocracy, on 06/26/2008, -5/+25Why can't we have both? Grow up.
- zombird, on 06/26/2008, -3/+20I'm still playing Quake.
- PCGCentipede, on 06/26/2008, -2/+15I'm still playing Wolfenstein 3D
- zaii7, on 06/26/2008, -2/+15im still playing Wolfenstein 3d
- whyufail, on 06/26/2008, -2/+15Quake 4 sucked if you were expecting the cookie cutter repetitive "blow ***** up, repeat" multiplayer experience of 3. Personally, I'm glad they went with a story driven FPS and I loved it. The stroggification process was awesome enough in itself. I don't even know if that game HAD a multiplayer mode because if it did I completely ignored it.
- AzureRise, on 06/26/2008, -6/+18Quake 2 was the *****, I think I'll install the original Quake on the school computers tomorrow.
- bilangew, on 06/26/2008, -1/+12I did the same path (Quake3 -> TF2), but I *really* miss strafe jumping. God, walking thru the map in TF2 is REALLY slow :/
- jonshipman, on 06/26/2008, -1/+11So, you're Romero's bitch?
- GGLmichal, on 06/25/2008, -5/+15QL definitely needs something like BattleNet and tutorials for "newbies".
- metalwalker, on 06/26/2008, -1/+11Still can't believe its not butter
- Upon66, on 06/26/2008, -2/+12Quake MMO? I don't think so
- BrokenVisage, on 06/26/2008, -1/+11I still play with myself.. please don't tell anyone.
- 8bitflu, on 06/26/2008, -1/+10Still playing Blake Stone.
- deacont23, on 06/26/2008, -1/+10I still play Quake1 with all the awesome mods it has. Slide Quake, Rune Quake, Killer Quake, Mega Team Fortress, and Q-Tank.
The best part, it's so old that any computer can play it. - GiJoeBob, on 06/26/2008, -1/+9send me your key and I'll see if I can figure it out for you.
- diceau, on 06/26/2008, -9/+17I played Quake 3 for 8 years ... now playing TF2. If I'm ever to return to Quake, Quake 5 is going to have to be insanely awesome or they're going to have to make it into an MMO somehow.
- Kornstalx, on 06/26/2008, -1/+9Still playing Hexen.
- erichw1504, on 06/26/2008, -1/+8I'm still playing Pong
- soundman7718, on 06/26/2008, -3/+10Just when I was getting good at counterstrike...
- AlexMax, on 06/26/2008, -2/+9i feel the opposite way from you, i feel like recent games have strayed way too far from the classic quake deathmatch formula and we haven't had a proper deathmatch game in over 8 years...that's way too long. the classic deathmatch formula is timeless, it's just that the 'tacticool realism' genre took most of the limelight away
also, if you think quake is just randomly firing rockets, you need to watch how skilled players roll:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3520996425 ... - lordtyros, on 06/26/2008, -1/+8Why don't you try playing as BONK
- illt, on 06/26/2008, -0/+7i'm stoked for the return of rocket arena 3...hopefully it won't be just vanilla q3
- tomlit, on 06/26/2008, -1/+8Quake 3 is the single most skill-based FPS I have ever played by far. In order to understand the depth, you have to play for more than a "bit".
- meed, on 06/26/2008, -1/+7I've gotta say that while quakelive basically is quake3, it is more like a after a huge freaking make-over. All of the maps have been updated and slightly re-tooled (and not just to add placed for in game ads either), a few weapons have been added and maybe some of the code itself has been modernized too. Basically the difference between quake3 and quakelive is akin to the differences between xp sp1 and xp sp2.
I just feel damn lucky that I'm in the beta for this game. - seantubridy, on 06/26/2008, -1/+7I miss Quake. I miss the BFG and using the rocket launcher to bounce high. You can't do that in Halo!
- GiJoeBob, on 06/26/2008, -0/+6Id, please spend some money on some decent game servers.
- tobiasproject, on 06/26/2008, -0/+6Still playing Catacomb 3-D and Maze War
- Slashered, on 06/26/2008, -1/+7Quake 4 did suck, but I put most of the blame on Raven. Yes, id picked Raven in the first place, but Raven developed a pretty piss poor game. When id software took over the game and patched it all the way upto 1.4.2, the game jumped leaps and bounds in improvements, things they've never done in a decade with the Quake series.
Those type of things give me hope that they'll put the required time of effort (Blizzard style: when it's done) to get this right on release, or at least close to it. - ChuckIT, on 06/26/2008, -1/+7eff ya! i remember playing the shareware game. so good.
- Slashered, on 06/26/2008, -1/+7no, this is for PC.
- boobsbr, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5still playing quake 3 during lunch break at work, we get a mean deathmatch going. absolutely positively love the quake series (uh, haven't played quake 4 or ET quake wars though).
- EatingPie, on 06/26/2008, -7/+12Having not seen anything about the game yet, I'm not one to judge. But Quake4 sucked massively, though I realize Carmack wasn't involved.
I'm a die hard Quake3 player, and am looking forward to this.
-Pie - blankoboy, on 06/26/2008, -1/+6Quake 1 Quad damage gibs = the best!
- PseudoThink, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5Natural Selection 1.04
Quake 1 & Rocket Arena & CTF & TF (with map voting)
Counterstrike 1.3 (with bunnyhop)
Doom
These were the online FPS multiplayer games that kept me hooked for months. Others have been quite fun (I'm looking at you TF2!), but never quite as much, for quite as long. - evilgourmet, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5Quake3 has the best mods,
Excessive FFA -- that was the best game play. - Fast and furious, hundreds of kills.
Instagib Rails -- aim quick and move like a rabbit, or you are going to lose.
I still love FFA, on excessive. - solid12345, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5Still playing with my joystick
- vagarach, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5Kojima? I though he was a game designer, not a programmer. I severely doubt he even wrote a single line of MGS4 code, given that the studio is named after him. The head honcho doesn't write arcane multi-core code at all odd hours, he decides how the whole thing should come together to be a game.
- Slashered, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4With some terrible timing, the Quake Live page is currently expecting some technical difficulties. They released a semi-major update last night and it's been a bit weird since then, and now they're trying to fix it. It's sending everyone to the main signup page for some reason.
