How out of touch is this ***** idiot? - Slashered, on 11/05/2009, -6/+182The game looks great, but everything IW, originally a PC developer, has done to the PC version of the game, is depressingly laughable. You can't even kick people from ranked matches? 'It feels good' with 100 ping? NO ***** CONSOLE? What the ***** are you guys smoking and how did you become this retarded (can I have some?)?
- AndrewDB, on 11/05/2009, -4/+144Wow, Infinity Ward is ***** up the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 left and right.
This also forgot to mention that they're also leaving out no dedicated servers.
Seriously, ***** this game, and ***** Infinity Ward for ***** over the PC gamers who made them who they are today. - dha07030, on 11/05/2009, -2/+134In a few weeks this game went from a definite buy to not even worth pirating.
- incubusbeatsall, on 11/05/2009, -3/+97And this, my friends, is why you should NOT buy the game - Because it's the best way to show the publishers that you care.
(Don't worry, they'll still make millions off of the console versions) - AngryDeuce, on 11/05/2009, -3/+96***** this game, IW is obviously giving the finger to it's PC players and decided it really doesn't give a ***** about our business. I'm taking my business elsewhere...
And this:
Q - Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
A - Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.
Is almost funny. Wow, IW, you guys added all that awesome stuff to the PC version? HOLY *****, THAT'S CRAZY!!!!
***** retards...I hope MW2 crashes and ***** burns.
And WTF, you can't kick people?? Yeah, should we just submit a complaint? I bet that's resolved quickly... - bubbrubb22, on 11/05/2009, -1/+93http://i36.tinypic.com/2uf7sro.jpg
- bubbrubb22, on 11/05/2009, -2/+90Next for game balance, IW will require all players to use only xbox360 controllers.
- MCA2142, on 11/05/2009, -2/+78Q1: is there lean in PC version?
A1: ***** off answer
Q2: You said IWnet was created to help stop piracy, what do you say about the Xbox 360 version leaked and shared on torrent sites?
A2: ***** off answer
Every answer from IW: ***** off answer - matt.rubin, on 11/05/2009, -0/+74"Games cap out at 9v9. The software has great latency tolerance. "
***** YOU INFINITE WARD. THIS GAME WAS A DAY ONE PURCHASE. MAKE IT A REAL ***** BATTLE FIELD AND GIVE US 64 PLAYER DEDICATED SERVERS!!! I have been with call of duty since the 1st one on the PC. Now you are just losing in touch with your roots. - tidu, on 11/05/2009, -2/+75I used to have respect for IW, and blamed all of this ***** on Activision. But IW is falling... steadily
- ThaDRD, on 11/05/2009, -1/+74Max game is 9vs9 on PC. What a joke.
- DarkShadow791, on 11/05/2009, -1/+59More Mackey-isms from the article:
Since we can not kick people in ranked matches, how will we stop hackers who get past VAC?
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
Can explain how IW.net works for the PC platform?
Mackey-IW: PC has no common provider of matchmaking like on xbox360, so to have match making on the PC we had to create IW.Net, kind of similar to the match making networks created for RTS games on PC. This was not a trivial undertaking, although it's understandable that these days consumers may take match match making for granted.
"No common provider of matchmaking" ... like what Steam offers for dedicated servers?
kaRMa: Regarding the PC version, will all games be hosted by players or just private matches? And will the host have a zero ping advantage?
Mackey-IW: We put a lot of work into making the game tolerant of latency. In my personal experience it is not obvious which player is host. The game plays well on broadband.
[literally the next question]
Stormbringer: If a game on IW.net is hosted by a player would that player not then have an unfair advantage in terms of network latency?
Mackey-IW: We put a lot of work into making the game tolerant of latency. In my personal experience is not obvious which player is host. The game plays well on broadband.
What a great array of intelligent responses that don't answer the question... Obviously this mackey guy is an idiot, or expects all MW2 players to be. - mauleriscool, on 11/05/2009, -3/+61Better experience for less skilled players?
On both console versions of cod4 matchmaking doesn't even look at stats(skill?), it just put you in a room that is open even if your rank 1 or 10th prestige. (There is usually 80k people online so that is not the problem)
I've played matches when people from germany and australia were hosting giving me the red bar (bad) ping which felt like 250ms would on pc.
Then I get a game where I have 4 green bars("good" ping) and it fells like 150ms ping would on pc.
Everything is delayed and the host of the match sees everything happen WAY faster then everyone else. I die without seeing anybody shooting at me but when I watch the killcam, the host was right in front of me and shot 10-15 bullets. That does not happen on dedicated servers.
- zaferk, on 11/05/2009, -0/+52mouse control?!? Hot damn sign me up!!
- TwwIX, on 11/05/2009, -2/+51Further signs of a ***** port.
- Certain, on 11/05/2009, -0/+47LMAO. I can't wait for the article where they just straight up say it....."No, we don't give a ***** about the PC version."
- bjornski, on 11/05/2009, -0/+44My vote goes for the latter. He's a highly paid whore who thinks his customers are stupid.
- Namco, on 11/05/2009, -1/+44Thanks Infinity Ward. I'll just cancel my Xbox 360 preorder and pickup the torrent version this time then.
- ozmbie, on 11/05/2009, -1/+41The guys in this chat weren't devs. You can tell from their stupid answers. Don't insult the experienced PC community with this kind of *****. Get an engineer to answer questions.
I feel sorry for the actual developers, who had to build and test this system. They probably hate it as much as the community does. - purerussell, on 11/05/2009, -3/+41Just canceled my pre-order. **** IW
- mark076h, on 11/05/2009, -0/+35MW2 multiplayer PC feature comparison http://digg.com/d3198bT
- blumarlin1, on 11/05/2009, -2/+37If it ain't broke don't fix it. MW2 should just be MW + maps + new guns + new story line. keep the amazing formula the same, what got them thinking it was a good idea to tinker with this??
- mushoo, on 11/05/2009, -0/+34They had me set on not purchasing or pirating this game with the servers *****. Seems like they're just taunting us now. Well IW you can take your console, severs, game, and "night vision googles" and shove them up where you pulled them out of.
- AngryDeuce, on 11/05/2009, -1/+35The dreams of more money to be made. I guarantee you they are looking for ways to lock the PC market, like they are able to lock the console market, so they can sell you map packs every couple months. If people can mod and create their own maps, there's an alternative to buying their *****, so of course they canked that straight away. *****...
- WoollyMittens, on 11/05/2009, -0/+33All excuses to hide that the PC version is a lame-ass back-port of the console versions.
- volacide, on 11/05/2009, -0/+33Okay, at first I thought this whole outcry over MW2 on the PC was a bit ridiculous but I was wrong. The management at Infinity Ward is clearly made up of a bunch of ***** that have are way too high on their own success. I understand they think they've created all the right balance modifications but that doesn't mean we can't have the ABILITY to edit such changes in other parts of the game. I mean I don't get it. All they have to do is give us the options to do so, we'll take it from there.
Holy *****. Modern Warfare 1 was the absolute worst thing to happen to Infinity Ward. I have never seen a developer become so pompous after such a success. You'd think they'd be grateful. They wouldn't have the success were it not for their consumers. It's ***** pathetic. - spiralspirit, on 11/05/2009, -0/+32I think he's a bot.
- bubbachuck, on 11/05/2009, -0/+31PC sales are going to be well under expectations. I can say this safely because if you have the hardware to run this game, you have a good chance of being a relative gaming enthusiast. Which means you've been following the news of IW screwing the PC version over which has left a bitter taste in your mouth.
The reason IW can get away with this is because the console kiddies are going to be buying this up in droves to make up for lower than expected PC sales. I guess IW is happy to sell a mediocre product to the PC gamers. - sibos, on 11/05/2009, -0/+31I really don't understand why any company releasing PC games wouldn't put out a demo. They're just asking to be pirated, since I'm not going to bet $60 on my computer running their software. System requirements are just a vague idea of what's needed, and I've installed plenty of games (so older ones, with very modest graphics) that just don't run smoothly.
Am I alone, or does this affect the games other people buy too? - CaptOblivious, on 11/05/2009, -0/+31Thanks to the info I know not to waste my hard earned money on this obviously POS game.
Play it the way we designed it, Sure that's ok the first time or two, but you know what, it's my freaking game and I want to make it completely impossible or kindergarten simple with godmode and infinite ammo I will be able to or I just wont buy your game.
So have a good time with your self righteous attitude, stupid decisions and empty pockets. - zaferk, on 11/05/2009, -1/+31As an long time, but waning, PC gamer, I am saddened to accept the truth when it comes to PC games versus their console counterpart, that there's just too many console kiddies for them to give a ***** about PC games.
- BugMeNot2, on 11/05/2009, -1/+31COD4 sold millions on the PC. Activision/Infinity Ward are just stupid and greedy.
- d3sp, on 11/05/2009, -5/+35Since the L4D2 demo sucked, I'm taking my "no-MW2" fif..sixty bucks and spending it on Dragon Age: Origins.
- x713, on 11/05/2009, -1/+31100 ping is embarrassing. I will not be buying this game.
- bjornski, on 11/05/2009, -0/+29They don't care. They sold out hard.
- ThaDRD, on 11/05/2009, -2/+28Hitler is angry over no dedicated PC servers for MW2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vOMuAhz6rE - katatoniq, on 11/05/2009, -0/+25http://www.fourzerotwo.com/?page_id=176
This is one of the main IW people.
This says it all. PC games at the bottom of his list, and look at how many there are compared to every ***** console in existence. - Hybred1234, on 11/05/2009, -1/+26I've always had a problem with the "No Swearing" policy on some servers. Like, it's OK to kill people in game but not swear... right.
- AngryDeuce, on 11/05/2009, -0/+25It's not even just that, they just can't lock the PC version down like they can the console version, so they're leaning towards the consoles now. It used to be the other way around, but with consoles getting so much more powerful I'm not surprised they're focusing on that. It's also easier to block piracy, since so many more people download ISO's and such as opposed to modding consoles...
They make more money strictly because they can limit what you can do, like IW is doing here. They are blocking private servers and custom maps so, if you want to play new maps, you have to buy their map pack, and there is no other alternative. If there were custom maps or private servers with mods, then there wouldn't be nearly as big of an incentive to pay them...
I predict that the next COD will be console only. The obviously decided the PC market wasn't worth their time... - v3rtex7740, on 11/05/2009, -0/+24***** off potential customer
we dont want you and your money
i swear to god they're trying their best to keep competitive fps players far away from their game, which actually would explain a lot. Think about it, MOST people who buy fps suck balls at them. These people don't want to get murdered viciously online. - katatoniq, on 11/05/2009, -0/+24What a ***** joke. There is no sense whatsoever in dropping dedicated servers.
Everybody take a step back and think about this, if you think you've got it bad.
I am in Australia and here probably 80% of people have their uploads capped at 128kbit/sec. That's 15kB/s. I'm on 8mbit/128kbit for example.
I would like to see that 100ms target achieved with even 10 players. Not a hope in ***** hell.
OH wait, why do I care, I'll be host! I can kill everyone before they even noticed they spawned! - TriplePlay2425, on 11/05/2009, -1/+25If they are taking it out on PC gamers as a big "***** you" to those who pirated their game, then they're just a bunch of whiny bitches. I understand being pissed at the pirates, but don't take it out on everyone. Especially when you basically solve the piracy problem by not letting pirated copies be able to play online with the P2P, but they didn't stop there. The continue to ***** up the game. Although it's the biggest and most annoying issue, it's probably their only move that made sense. Then they keep doing more and more to screw the game up. They solve the piracy problem (most of it anyway), yet they screw it up more and more. Because once the pirates can't play, who the ***** cares what they think? They can't play the next game, so they are either going to actually buy the game or they weren't your customers to begin with. Most people that want the game are going to want it for the multiplayer just as much, if not more than, the campaign. So people who pirate the game just to play the campaign probably wouldn't have bought the game even if piracy wasn't an option. Therefore they weren't even potential customers.
I really do understand them wanting to stop piracy, but I don't understand them ***** up the experience for everyone else even after they take the pirates out of the picture. - bjornski, on 11/05/2009, -2/+26Exactly. They're going with the McDonalds mentality.
Quantity over quality. - richIsBored, on 11/05/2009, -0/+23You know whats really silly about that? Consoles have had USB ports for at least 2 generations and mouse input is still something developers consider optional.
- decyx, on 11/05/2009, -0/+22Sure, the SP campaign is going to be amazingly epic and the multiplayer experience will probably still be a blast. I'm still not going to buy it, because I refuse to settle for a gimped, stripped down, and more expensive version of a game I already own. If I did, I'd be sending them the message that it's okay to marginalize PC gamers in order to satisfy corporate interests.
The problem is that you don't see the long term consequences. You support this game, you support their decisions. You'll enjoy the game in the short run and pay for it dearly later on when they realize that they can nickle and dime you for new content and screw you out of even more features, because you and millions of others will buy it anyway. It's going to be just like what Activision does with the Guitar Hero franchise.
"Today, we'll [charge] $100 for a guitar. You might add a microphone or drums, you might buy two or three expansions packs, different types of music. Over the life of your ownership you'll probably buy around 25 additional song packs in digital downloads. So, what used to be a $50 sale is a $500 sale today." -Kotick, CEO of Activision
The worst thing about this whole situation is that, ultimately, you're right. Everyone WILL get over it and hand over their money without incident. Like crack addicts, all they care about is getting their quick fix and Activision will exploit that to their advantage and squeeze as much out of gamers as they can while providing them with less and less features. I wouldn't be surprised if they started charging separately for SP and MP someday and justified it by saying that the amount of content in each warranted the decision.
"You know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further." -Kotick, CEO of Activision - voze, on 11/05/2009, -1/+23^ What a load of self-righteous crap. A download doesn't equal a lost sale, half the people who downloaded would never have bought it anyway, not to mention if you want to play online (properly, none of that buggy pirated server crap), you had to buy the game.
BugMeNot is right, Infinity Ward/Activision (I'd be more inclined to say Activision), are getting too greedy. - sentry21, on 11/05/2009, -1/+21Actually the success of Call of Duty 1 for PC made them who they are.
- AngryDeuce, on 11/05/2009, -0/+20Oh, cmon...if they honestly think he meant direct port as in "am I gonna have to go get a 360 controller to play it?" and "are the graphics set automatically and unable to be adjusted like on a console?" or then they're even more retarded then they come across. I would assume that even a ***** moron would grasp that those items would be a given on a PC GAME.
Personally, the interview would have ended right there if I had been asking that question, because my "Well, no *****, I mean, ANYTHING ELSE??" woulda prolly insulted them a little bit. To be honest, this whole interview just reeks of "Here it is, take it or leave it. We don't care"
I'm leaving it. With the millions of other people that will, too, they'll care. - inactive, on 11/05/2009, -0/+20thumbs up for accuracy.
