- M724, on 08/04/2008, -0/+8I had a less dramatic experience, but I was addicted to games in general. I was so into it that I ended up having to start over my college education in a completely new college, as well as face my disappointed family, and believe me, nobody is strong enough to go through the "disappointed" phase and not feel like crap with guilt.
Anyway, long story short, I managed to perform better than most students in the new college, and I now learned a vital skill called self-control. At any point during any game, I can stop, turn it off, and walk away. I can also resist the urge to play when there are more important things to do.
When I first got Halo 3, which I was anticipating for years... I'm talking about the point in time just a couple of hours after I came home with the game and started it up, when I was told I needed to go on a three-day trip across the country. Imagine the frustration of having to leave right after you had a first taste of a game that's been on top of your anticipated games list for a long time. To make things worse, there was the Halo 3 worldwide release coverage all over the news, in airplane newspapers, on TV and online. It's painful to think about, isn't it?
When I came back home, it was only 8 pm and I could have had at least an hour or two to play if I unpack and settle in early, but I decided not to rush it. The result? I had my next day's college schedule free, and could play from the time I got up until I have had enough, or something else came up. And I truly enjoyed that day. - tonicboy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Buried for the shameless use of the tease thumbnail.
- chaosblade77, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2I thought people bought FPS games for multiplayer?
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2And this trend getting bigger and bigger these days thanks to WOW.
- MaxIsBored, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2I played ultima online over 10 years ago, and still remember my shortcuts (macro) keys for almost everything you could do in the game. I still think about it all the time, and still remember everything one could know (at the time) about the game.. Secret areas, monsters, bugs/cheats... You name it.
Though not as severe as what would be considered real addictions, game addiction is real. - rolandvvv, on 08/04/2008, -1/+2How can someone become addicted to Everquest? I had a lvl 30 monk that a friend helped me power level and it took 6 MONTHS. Any game that requires that much time is stupid. On top of that, the game was boring. I dreaded playing it. I only played it because my friends played it but it eventually became too much.
- EmperorAnton, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1Is there an organization for parents who have kids that are addicted to these games?
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1I too ahd no idea about the absolute depth of MMORPGS games. This really gave a good insight into the culture of the games. I might end up playing more now!
- Digibull, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Dug. I used to have a 14 hour a day addiction... amuzingly it was WoW which woke me the ***** up.
- happytedium, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1I've played games since I had the motor skills to do so (starting with a NES way, way before starting school), and I still do _every day_. It has been a passion over the years, and I'm now looking into game development as a career (after two years of studying psychology, I realised I only live once and I should follow my true passions - I start a new course next semester).
Like all things, everything in moderation (even moderation, sometimes). You don't have to _quit_ gaming altogether, but rather see that in life there are more important things and you have to keep them in check/balance, and personally I find that when I spend some time away from a game, I enjoy it more than if I'm playing it for x hours a day. - MinaLiyu, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1I have to admit, when I go to sleep I even dream about my character.
Shame on me ....... but fun. - bubbles19518, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Buried cause its shoemoney lawl.
- leerayIG88, on 08/04/2008, -2/+1Another reason MMORPG is a terrible. People should stick to FPS...you beat it once, it's over. Thus giving you the satisfaction!
