- inactive, on 09/16/2008, -1/+77WoW racks in at least 100 million per month and thats very conservative. How long until the government starts looking at WoW playing like gambling and creates some BS tax on MMO gaming?
- benologist, on 09/16/2008, -0/+67About a billion times less than they've made. That's how much.

Binds on Credit Card transaction - jayscot, on 09/17/2008, -2/+45Now there's no excuse why I should not be able to fly in Azeroth.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -3/+33Just because it's profitable for someone else doesn't mean it's not "worth it" to you. The way I look at it, I'm getting off cheap - I can either pay Blizzard $15/month to keep my addiction going, or I can buy two console games in the same period (that's between $70 and $120) and pray that I can actually find a game that *will* keep me amused for two weeks. Otherwise you add in the cost of movie tickets ($20 each for me and my husband, when you include the inevitable snacks) or the cost of going out to eat because I'm bored out of my wits ($30 each). Blizzard is doing me a tremendous financial favor by devastating my real-world social life. And I wish that was a joke.
- Tape99, on 09/17/2008, -2/+30What does Blizzard have to do with you're wireless connection?
- toxicityj, on 09/17/2008, -1/+28or you could..i dont know..get a better wireless router and or ISP?
- Saabzilla, on 09/17/2008, -0/+24"And yet I STILL lag playing on a wireless connection."
Here is an idea, PLUG IN! What, do you want someone from Blizzard to come over and configure your router. - Murdats, on 09/17/2008, -3/+24yes, if only games cost money and not time and effort aswell.
- Ragingcnu, on 09/17/2008, -0/+21Great, so... hire more programmers, finish Diablo III, finish SC2, release, profit, rinse and repeat
- Gaya2081, on 09/17/2008, -2/+21Exactly how I feel. My husband and I are in the same boat. If we really want to see a movie, we wait for it to come out on DVD now.
Waits for girls don't play WoW comments - Madryan, on 09/17/2008, -0/+18+1 digg
Minor enchant - WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+17Yes, because the quality of your wireless connection is *totally* Blizzard's fault.
I also blame them for Global Warming and the Holocaust. - Cerialthriller, on 09/16/2008, -0/+17well they claim over 10 million subscriptions world wide @$15 per month thats $150 million per month world wide. Thats well over a billion a year just on subs, not to mention character transfers, and when they release xpacs thats another half billion.
- Indrid, on 09/17/2008, -1/+17How much does WoW COST? I think you've got that backwards... I think it would be more interesting to know how much WoW MAKES Blizzard.
- Atomic05, on 09/17/2008, -0/+15"...you aren't just laughing all the way to the bank, you're cackling."
Dugg for that. - Tbyrd073, on 09/17/2008, -1/+15Blizzard does a good job and most GMs are very reliable and nice as long as you are polite to them. A lot of people become disinclined to help you if you act like a dick to them.
- Groovester, on 09/16/2008, -2/+16This makes me rethink the justification I told myself that the monthly cost was worth it.
- KaiUno, on 09/17/2008, -0/+13He's a wireless connection?
- colombian201, on 09/17/2008, -0/+12Blizzard cusomer service is actully pretty awsome. ingame and outgame service.
- Murdats, on 09/17/2008, -0/+12what you are expecting blizzard to rebuild networking and the internet entirely just so you can play wow?
- Shawn4168, on 09/17/2008, -2/+14Blizzard treats their customers very well, they're just sick of all of the self-entitled pricks that think that their $15 a month gives them the right to dictate exactly how the game should work, and when they don't get their way, they get the right to treat the CS staff like crap.
Compare Blizzard's CS to just about ANY other large company's, and you'll see just how fantastic they are. - magicgreenman, on 09/17/2008, -1/+12Blizzard nets 1.1 billion a year
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_Entertainmen ... - Madryan, on 09/17/2008, -2/+13What are you talking about? World of Warcraft probably has the best customer service for a game or an MMO that I've ever played. I can submit a ticket and within at least 15-35 minutes I can get a response from a GM. I remember a while back I was hacked and had all my items deleted on me and all my gold taken away, within 2 days of submitting my ticket they reimbursed my gold and replaced my items. For a game with over ten million people playing that's some pretty damn good customer service.
- csulok, on 09/17/2008, -1/+12FYI 2.5 million europeans pay 15€ every month, 2.5 million americans pay $15 every month, the chinese pay per hour which translates to about $2 every month if they play average.
- geardosdotnet, on 09/17/2008, -0/+10cable television: 50$ / month (conservative estimate). 600$ a year. 5000$ for 5 years
I'll pay for my wow, thank you, but I don't have tv. - sHockz, on 09/17/2008, -0/+9wow you are just plain ***** retarded
- Csma, on 09/17/2008, -2/+10Not every "country" is charged $15 a month. Keep that in mind
But jesus this game is making a ***** of money - pudds, on 09/17/2008, -0/+8The 10M figure generally quoted is for their paying subscriber base, however, as chris said, somewhere around 5M are in China, where they pay hourly (something like $0.06US per hour). The best numbers I've seen put it around $800M a year from the US and EU, plus an unknown (and probably greatly fluctuating) amount from other regions.
http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/01/24/how-much-mone ...
According to this article, The9 (who is in charge of WoW in China) had only $42M in revenue in Q3 2007.
http://tobolds.blogspot.com/2007/11/free-to-play-w ...
Nonetheless, its still a crap ton of money. - sirflibble, on 09/17/2008, -2/+8yeah some are charged more, like Australia where it's $30 a month.
- shredswithpiks, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6it's around 5 years, specifically 4.
- black27696, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6Definitely. Can we PLEASE build some roofs? The great majority of the land is already flight ready, contrary to what a lot of people say. Only the highest areas don't have roofs on them, and that's easily fixed. One of the biggest problem areas would be stormwind, which they are changing in wrath, and they should do it then. I think it would be so incredible if wrath came out and they were like BAM! We secretly added flight in Azeroth. I mean, they spend so much time with story line and give you a reason you need to get the new flying skill for the island in wrath, yet they never give a reason that you can rent a gryphon in azeroth, but you can't use your own.
- iamnotcreative, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5Don't spam your ***** site.
- imbob, on 09/16/2008, -6/+11With all the money they make, they could make like a FULL BUDGET GAME every month.
- Saabzilla, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5You have yet to explain how Blizzard has ANYTHING to do with YOUR wireless connection. Take this issue up with your ISP.
If you want to prove your point name one thing that Blizzard can do to improve YOUR wireless internet connection! - mwalker05, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5Warhammer online, you dolts.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -6/+11Well they sure arnt putting much money into support or customer service. The game itself is great, but the way Blizzard treats its customers is awful. Its also very evident that they are not worried about players going to another game.
We need another MMO to start doing well, just to give Blizzard a reason to improve things. - Ramble, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5That translates into a gross revenue of just over a billion a year (dollars).
- zanestone, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5It's cheaper than an iPhone
- Evilblobs, on 09/17/2008, -2/+7All your spare cash? are you jobless?
15$ a month is practically nothing. - sandiegodude, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5I played for years here, and had all sorts of problems (including my young daughter deleting all of my characters once... UGH) and they were always awesome at helping me. Back in the EQ days, now that was when customer service suuucked. Tickets could take days just to get answered, and most of the time it was from a volunteer player guide, not a GM.
- prgmctan, on 09/17/2008, -4/+8Girls do play Wow, because it's easy.
- bigthecat, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4They make a good amount of money from their extras - $25 for a character transfer, $10 for a name change. A lot of people use them.
- Rikushix, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4Nothing gets by you, grasshopper.
- chris86, on 09/17/2008, -1/+5The majority of users are from China though and I don't think they pay as much. I read somewhere that the subscription costs there is a lot less than in Europe and the US.
- Tbyrd073, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4Sounds like my town. Although I recently switched my addiction to Warhammer. All of you are dugg up though because I thoroughly understand this.
- SirTheGuy, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4I believe Guild Wars or Age of Conan is the #2 MMO behind WoW, though I may be wrong. Please correct me if I am
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4nitpick, I'm a lifelong bookworm, so reading novels is indeed something which "appeals to me." At the same time, books are friggin' expensive as well - the latest Neal Stephenson was gonna cost me $30 (that's two months of WoW), except that I decided to wait till it comes out in paperback. Then it will be around the same price as a month of WoW - for about a day and a half of reading. Our local library is pitiful. We only have one e-reader (stocked with close to 500 sci-fi books), but my better half has coopted it for the next 10 years or so. My point remains: WoW is the cheapest form of steady entertainment out there. You don't like it - fine. But I already spend my 4-hour daily commute reading; when I come home, on some nights I just want my brain to veg out.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -6/+10From what I've been hearing, the "10M subscribers" claim includes inactive accounts which aren't generating any revenue at the moment. But the basic point still stands - Blizzard is raking in money faster hand over fist. I'd love to get a peek at their profit-and-loss spreadsheet.
- xxl3w, on 09/17/2008, -1/+5if $15 is keeping you from playing WoW, you might need to worry about studying for a certification exam, instead of defeating the lich king.
