- mymidgetfriend, on 10/10/2007, -3/+65I've been so excited about Portal and TF2 that EP2 can be total crap and I would still be happy with the Orange Box. That said.... it won't be because Valve is amazing.
- yutt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34I'm shocked this article links to the actual site rather than a ***** ad-laden blog.
What is going on here digg!??! - Zuggy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32If at first you don't succeed, you fail.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23I logged on to play some TF2. After I quit out of it I got this nice surprise from Steam. Can't wait.
- arial, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I love Steam but damn what a tease it is when new Valve games are close to being released and you pre-load them. Is it October 10th already?
- Nezacant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15There's your problem... You were playing it on a console.
- quaunaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13sky, through which things can fly.
- mistafreeze, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17If you pre-order you also get peggle extreme. This is only downside to pre-ordering off steam. I say downside because if you play it, you will spend another 10 dollars on peggle deluxe, because it is the most addicting damn game ever, I've played it almost as much as TF2 since i tried it out.
- aquadoctorbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13And the test will be terminated.
When stuck, remember our motto: There's a hole in the - Deputydon, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17.......why?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Three games for $50, and you don't think that's a good deal? And these aren't just throwaway games, either. Episode 2 is a given that it'll totally rock, Portal is looking incredibly promising, and believe me, TF2 is worth every penny, because I haven't been this happy with a game in years.
- Idgit, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Considering Half Life 2: Episode 2 would retail for $30, TF2 would retail for $20 - $30, and Portal would cost however much you're getting a damn good deal. This without counting Half-Life 2 and episode one. Especially considering most console games cost $60 these days you have nothing to complain about.
- markperia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Peggle is like crack. Im really contemplating on getting the deluxe.
- arial, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I agree, I'm not sure what game I will play first. EP2 or Portal... I've been playing TF2 already so I've been able to get my fix for that already.
- brasso, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Because he doesn’t have a PC that can handle it? Can’t think of any other reason.
- negativefx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11if there is clearly a bottleneck on your system, why don't you identify the bottleneck and replace that single piece of hardware?
unless your entire system is the bottleneck... in which case i wouldn't say 'there is clearly a bottleneck' but rather, that your computer 'is a piece of *****.' - dejavood0o, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Ever since Portal went up for pre-load I've been checking all day. I'm not sure why but getting this pre-loaded gives me such assurance as I wait ALL day for the "October 10" release.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Dude, just get the orange box. TF2 alone is worth the $50 ($45 if you preorder).
- TimSup, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9So that everyone who bought it can download it between now and release date... instead of a million people downloading it all at once at the same time when it's released.
- Punisher2K, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Wow, you suck hard.
- kogeki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Peggle is a great game. Very addictive.
- mistafreeze, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I'd shell out $50 dollars for 3 new valve games any day. I think 50 for TF2 is a bit steep, as there are only 6 current maps, but those 6 maps are pretty badass. With the current promo its 15 dollars a game (hl ep 2, portal, and TF2) and that is cheap as hell.
If you dont want to shell out 50 for the orange box, just buy them separately, tf2 is 30, portal is 20, and hl2 ep 2 is 30. Whatever makes you happy.
Hell I pre-ordered from steam, and pre-ordered for the 360, and it was just over 100. (I like to be able to play games on consoles at later dates, I still have HL 1 on ps2)
For those complaining of not being able to preload right away, remember you cant play the thing until the 10th, what does it matter that you get it on day one. That said, I preloaded yesterday, slowest speeds ever, 400k. - markperia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9if you ordered it on steam
- jerrycan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Even my cat made it to the test chamber in Anomalous Materials. Punisher2K is right. You have a pretty mouth.
- vjeko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+910-10 all over the world
- smoger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+82-3 hours for episode 1? did you clip through it or something? i agree it was short(as in episodic), but 2-3hrs... come on with the exagerations.
also.. not sure why anyone would be upset that theres no user content for a game that isnt even finalized yet. just relax,.. when has valve ever hindered user content? - mikemil828, on 10/10/2007, -0/+860 hours for a game you don't particularly like.......
- FullBleed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You're a hero then.
You made sure the resonance cascade never happened! - Sparkle7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9HL Beats the Hell out of Halo2.5
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8How the heck much do you want to shell out for 3 games? Sounds pretty damn reasonable to me. People don't seem to understand that the other two (HL2 and Episode 1) are giveaways, and don't contribute to the price. You do understand that if you bought those three separately, you'd be shelling out $80, right. How much do you think these games cost?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7God... I know exactly what you mean. The worst part is having to admit that a game starring a unicorn is nearly as addicting as TF2. Or admitting that I enjoy playing a game starring a unicorn in the first place.
- arial, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I understand why the pre-load and I wasn't bitching about it. I was just saying what a tease it is when you're really looking forward to a new Valve game. It's like that girlfriend that will give up to you BUT you have to wait until prom night.
- getatmedigg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I know you guys have been digging down guys who wanted the Black box but I can see their point. I bought the Orange Box and I have been playing TF2 religiously. The game I was most interested in was Portal to be honest..It's a deal for $45 but I already own HL2 and HL2 EP1 and giving them away to a friend is a deal for a friend not me:
HL2 $50
HL2 EP1 $20
Orange Box $45
Total $115 so I'm really out $70 bucks compared to newbies buying the Orange Box)
It would be nice if we could trade in our gift licenses for HL3 or another full-length title on Steam. - negativefx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6thanks for letting me know. you're always keeping me informed! what are you going to do while it's preloading? what song are you listening to right now? what mood are you in? what's your blog url?
- oderdigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7You can always give your new HL2 EP1/EP2 copies to someone else when you buy the orange box. Valve even advertises this.
- markperia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+68+ hours of gameplay isn't exactly short. There are full games out there that are shorter.
- sully213, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Considering what a "Half Life" is, it would actually be more like Quarter Life.
- AXNJAXN, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7There's so much stuff in the Orange Box. I already finished Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1, but even if Portal is terrible, there's still enough action between Episode 2 and Team Fortress to more than make up for the price I paid for it.
- Oetzi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6no all the episodic games are counted as HL3. Gabe even said that they should have been called Half Life 3: Episode x and so on
- podobuzz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm sorry. It'll cost $15 more. It will use a controller instead of a keyboard/mouse. And if the disc ever gets scratched or you lose it, you'll have to buy the game again. So, who exactly is the "B*TCH" here?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6And I didn't buy into it. I was just explaining to you that you're ***** retarded, and that the point of Episodic was that it's going to be short.
- gyphie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6On release day the content servers will be very busy. They would be all the busier if everyone that purchased the games were downloading them on the same day. Pre-load (pre-release loading) lets Valve distribute the bandwidth and server load over several weeks prior to release. It also lets us have the game ready to go at release time so we only wait for activation and decryption without waiting for downloading from already overtaxed servers.
I think it's a good idea. It's the pre-order bit that locks in impulse buyers. - v0yeur, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6take Halo 3, for example...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5My God, was it? Damn, seems like just yesterday I was staying up all night waiting for my copy of HL2 to unlock, and then being blown away by it when it finally did. Good times, good times.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6i think i'm going to play EP3 first as i'd like to know what's happening story wise.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It gets all the files onto your computer encrypted ahead of time so there aren't 500,000 people downloading it at once the day it's actually released. When you activate it, they send you the keys to decrypt the files.
