- pablo0713, on 09/26/2008, -6/+173While a fan of this series, not buying it because I'm tired of game companies releasing games six months to a year later for the PC. There is no reason for the delay other than an orchestrated attempt to kill PC gaming. Listen schmucks, a this point in time, those PC gamers who don't own consoles (me) are not going to run out and buy one any time soon just to play your pointless game. You want my money, treat PC gamers with some respect.
- Stemnin, on 09/26/2008, -5/+136Buried for the title alone. Games for Windows is ***** that doesn't need saving and PC gaming is doing great.
"Grab the box of most any PC game, and you'll be presented with an arcane chart of model numbers and processor speeds, minimum and recommended requirements that only serve to confuse."
It's been that way for a long long long time. - SamusAu, on 09/26/2008, -3/+112Yes, the PC was also dying out when the PS1 / Saturn came out. Then again it was in dire trouble with the xbox / PS2. And now some knob jockey can't come up with a better idea for a story so, once again, the PC is on its last legs. Move along, nothing to see here.....
- Kamael, on 09/26/2008, -5/+100Release it on Steam or i'll pirate the ***** out of it.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -2/+70Nate Ralph, the writer, is a retard. Look at the PC sales numbers, that platform is doing just fine.
- Murrabbit, on 09/26/2008, -4/+70If someone can't read the ***** min requirement chart on a game box then they have no business even using a computer, honestly.
- FasterGun, on 09/26/2008, -3/+64***** those who think that PC gaming is dying.
- HarryRag, on 09/26/2008, -2/+62"The PC -- once the gold standard for videogaming enthusiasts -- has fallen from grace."
No, it hasn't, you overly sensationalist 'journalist'. PC was never at the forefront like Atari, NES, SNES and the Playstation. PC gaming is just fine and will be fine for the time being. - rblancarte, on 09/26/2008, -2/+53The PC Gaming Platform: "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"
- zinc6471, on 09/26/2008, -4/+52they usually release games later on PC because they have to configure it for PC, but then again they can do it in parallel with consoles.
but with PC your dealing with some many components, ATI/Nvidia gpu, amd/intel, etc. Sometimes we do get "extra" content....
But im sticking to PC all the way. - Cwolf267, on 09/26/2008, -3/+47Just because GFW is failing doesn't mean the PC platform is. Most PC gamers prefer Steam, and Steam refuses to release their sales numbers.
- Shogi, on 09/26/2008, -7/+47Yeah and neither is sex or winning the lottery.

- Phalanxia, on 09/26/2008, -1/+27Strategy games will keep the PC alive. I will prove this with one word.
Starcraft. - mwalker05, on 09/26/2008, -1/+26ive been buying computer games since i was 12 years old and ive never had problems understanding the requirements boxes.
- Jarasmen, on 09/26/2008, -0/+23He's bending the tubes.
- lacronicus, on 09/26/2008, -4/+26Compared to either of those, i'd have to agree; GTA isn't all that fun.
- Arramol, on 09/26/2008, -3/+23It's not going to save PC games either way because PC games aren't dying. Two things you can look for every year in the computing world are people proclaiming the year of the Linux desktop and the death of PC gaming. The year of the Linux desktop may happen one of these days, but PC gaming's not dying. Some of the fat's probably being cut from the industry, but the really quality companies like Valve, Stardock, and Blizzard aren't going anywhere.
And the piracy argument for the death of PC games is BS. See above examples of Valve, Stardock, and Blizzard, all of whom are experiencing great success on the PC in spite of piracy. The fact is, most of the people who pirate weren't going to buy the game anyway. That doesn't make it right, but it's common sense that more people are going to consume a product when it's free than when it costs $50, so it's ridiculous to count each download as a lost sale, to say nothing of people who download to try the game out and then go on to buy it. - eliotmat, on 09/26/2008, -0/+18Neo?
- vtnerd, on 09/26/2008, -3/+21PC gaming is far superior when it comes to first-person shooters. Until such time as consoles start selling with mice and keyboards, it will always be the superior system for these kinds of games.
- kolyana, on 09/26/2008, -2/+19What a pile of crock.
I think, therefore I'm going to make some sweeping generalizations that I can't and won't substantiate and make an article out of them!!!!
"Tack on piracy woes, public misconceptions about the real costs behind gaming PCs, and arcane system requirements that befuddle even experienced enthusiasts, and it's no wonder so many gamers and developers have set sail for console-centric shores."
It has been a long, long, long time since I have ever looked at the requirements for a game. I buy it, I install it, I play it. I up the graphic settings to whatever I feel my system will handle and I don't worry about it any more.
I replace my gaming rig every 2-3 years. I walk into the store, I say "give me a good gaming rig" and I walk out.
I'm no expert - but it sounds like the writer is just a little full of his own opinion. - jsdratm, on 09/26/2008, -1/+18BS article. WoW is the biggest argument against this PC gaming is dying crap. Plus, digital distribution will allow games to be available past retail and greatly increase sales.
- eliotmat, on 09/26/2008, -1/+18How did you do that?
- Dubbsacc, on 09/26/2008, -5/+22Exactly Pablo, I won't be buying this game for the exact same reasons. There is no reason it can't be released on PC at the same time as the consoles, other than greed.
And I'm burying the article on the description a lone.
"once the gold standard for videogaming enthusiasts"
Whatever, still the gold standard for me. - KampfGherkin, on 09/26/2008, -3/+20well said, good man, well said.
- Shaflugi, on 09/26/2008, -1/+16We don't need that Games for Windows ***** (whatever the hell it is). Steam is already doing a good job keeping PC gaming alive.
- Dubbsacc, on 09/26/2008, -2/+16Love Steam.
I might change my mind on buying it if it is released on Steam. - YouRookies, on 09/26/2008, -2/+16Can't wait. GTA on PC is 10x more fun with trainers.
- damack, on 09/26/2008, -1/+15Thats not true games do come later to the PC but their always improved, examples include:
Gears of War - PC version had extra chapter
Assassins Creed - PC version has 4 extra missions
Devil May Cry 4 - PC version had an extra mode with several times as many enemies on screen at a time plus a turbo mode that makes the action a lot faster plus 120fps cutscene support.
Mass Effect - PC version had minigame plus tweaked UI and no texture loading problems.
Burnout Paradise on the PC is due out in 2009 but it adds multi-screen support, expanded multiplayer, better customisation and better lighting and graphics.
Throw in exclusives like Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins and KOTOR 3 and your talking about sme serious PC gaming clout not to mention 11 million WoW subscribers.
This article is bs the real story is how GTA4 couldn't save the PS3 and 360 from Wii domination. - Stevethegreat, on 09/26/2008, -1/+15In fact PC gaming would rejoice if "Games for Windows" platform would die a violent death. Tagged as inaccurate...
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -4/+18Wow, you think GTA is like sex?
- jayzeus, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13How do you get that backwords b?
- Morghin, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13You know, whatever those who think PC-gaming is dying is smoking... errr... no. They're just paid to write it.
- EtherGnat, on 09/26/2008, -2/+14mooninite is an idiot who thinks he knows how companies work. There's rarely a single reason for any decision.
The delay is almost assuredly for multiple reasons. Piracy is probably one of them, as is zinc's assertion that it takes time to port a game to the PC. Of course it's possible it could be done simultaneously, but developers have limited resources and the PC is typically the least profitable platform. PC ports are sometimes farmed out to to other developers, too, and it's not practical to do that until a game is finished.
High profile games receive incentives for remaining an exclusive as well. I'm sure many other factors go into the decision as well. Don't be such a know-it-all tool. - zdiggler, on 09/26/2008, -4/+16That's just bull. Its even more involve to make your game work on both PS3 and 360
- acegi, on 09/26/2008, -0/+12bring it on steam or no deal.
pc game isn't dead, btw. steam is the future - pathouston22, on 09/26/2008, -2/+14I can't wait for PC gaming to die so I'll be forced to play a First Person Shooter on a console with a joystick and auto-aim!
- Icetype, on 09/26/2008, -2/+13At 20FPS on the PS3 I had some trouble enjoying it to the fullest. But at a solid 60FPS on PC I'm sure I'll love it.
- savethejets, on 09/26/2008, -1/+12Sorry as long as PC's have user mods and downloadable content that doesn't require microsoft points, They win.
- alantamtheyam, on 09/26/2008, -3/+14I want to play this. :o
- SwedishNinja, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11Civ4.
So many wasted Saturdays :D - danwallace, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11All 3 of them?
- Scrappy1850, on 09/26/2008, -4/+14it takes longer becuase of the improvements. it IS going to be a better experience on the PC than on the console. so i feel the extra few months is acceptable.
- VigRoco, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11GTA is more easy to control and conquer with the mouse and keyboard
- homercles337, on 09/26/2008, -4/+14And youre dealing with a more powerful platform. With more power, one can do more. The "sky's the limit" can be problematic for some.
- camiller, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9"As each successive console generation provides gamers with options that are more affordable"
If I am going to own a PC anyway adding a console is not more affordable. If I were going to own a console INSTEAD of a PC then and only then would it be more affordable! - homercles337, on 09/26/2008, -2/+11You dont understand the basic concept of first-/third-person perspective do you? Mouse/keyboard will always be better for these. Do you know why the had to include "auto aim" for your ***** console? Do you?
- chemosapien, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9as a cross-platform gamer, i take offense at this kind of article taking potshots at PC gaming...and so should any gamer, because they always are based on the idea that PCs are "arcane" and too difficult to actually use...which is totally silly and untrue and more importantly a serious insult to the intelligence of the entire gaming market
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9I eat crayons for a living and even I don't have problems with min reqs. on boxes.
- Blitzenn, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9I have to agree. The article is crap. No facts or figures to back up the claims (because there aren't any facts to back up such stupid claims). Gaming on PC's is just as robust as it ever was and console games just started to get simultaneous releases with them. GTA was really one of the first games to get a PC release AFTER the console version was released. That was ONLY due to the fact that they have an agreement with MS to change the content specifically for them. Kudos!
