Here's the original video which was posted in March:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWf-l71MY4&fmt ... - kayfouroh, on 06/12/2009, -2/+32I think I know why a lot of people don't like EVE.
You can lose *****.
Look at every other really successful MMO out on the market. They are mostly gimped so you don't lose anything. There is no risk, only reward. No challenge. :( - internetisscary, on 06/12/2009, -0/+26i have no idea whats going on or what any of this means but damn that was cool.
- Havegooda, on 06/12/2009, -0/+22Amazing video. Eve can be boring and monotonous...if that's how you play. You can screw spreadsheets and blow ***** up...or you can be an accountant and make billions a day, if you can stand it. Do what you want, and enjoy it.
To each his own... - had3l, on 06/12/2009, -0/+17OMG YOUTUBE IS DOWN, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!
- MWeather, on 06/12/2009, -0/+16A nation can be interplanetary.
- sodoh, on 06/12/2009, -0/+16There is this thing called "False Hero Syndrome". When a person reads a book they can sometimes put themselves in the position of the hero, and the hero always wins.
In MMORPG they tend to do the same. People get annoyed when they don't get to be the hero. So they allow you to level (a little slowly) solo.
In Eve Online you are shown how insignificant you really are almost the first time you leave the first space station. You do not survive without friends/agreements and having to deal with other people. - DuckSoup1, on 06/12/2009, -2/+16Which to me made the game fun. Your heart would race knowing you might lose that Drake of yours.
The battles were epic and truly heart racing. Unlike games like WoW where it's like if you die your all "Oh darn.."
No strategy involved with games where nothing is at risk. - SkullPizza, on 06/12/2009, -1/+14wtf, why is this guy being buried?
- icexe, on 06/12/2009, -3/+15Awesome.. too bad the only parts of EVE i ever got to experience were the mind-numbing boredom of mining or being sent on the exact same pirate missions over and over again.
Apparently the fun only starts after you join a corp, but I gave up after trying many, many times to join one only to get ignored or rejected. - DevinWatson, on 06/12/2009, -4/+15Your mom sucks!
- Thoku, on 06/12/2009, -0/+8Script was a bit crap but the editing and cinematography were freaking awesome.
- uzair21, on 06/12/2009, -2/+10I don't know anything about this game or its story, so I might be speaking nonsense. That said, does it make sense to say "revered as a national hero". National? Not "planetary hero"?
- Mship, on 06/12/2009, -4/+12Yeah because I want to invest hours upon hours of my life in a game and build my character up to the way that I want it to be. Then while I am playing someone who has been playing the game longer than me can come up kill me take all my ***** and I have to start all over.
Im sorry I play video games to relax and have fun. If I want to feel a rush I will go mountain climbing or racing on a bike. - relaxeder, on 06/12/2009, -11/+19spreadsheets in space imo
- rbpnps, on 06/12/2009, -0/+8yea...i tried EVE, wasnt really my thing tho
awesome vid tho - bizkit00, on 06/12/2009, -0/+7I was watching 11 million people grind daily quests in wow the other day, only it was more cartoony looking.
- motbob, on 06/12/2009, -0/+7If you want to know why EVE is so compelling, just read this tl;dr post:

http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&a ... - inactive, on 06/12/2009, -5/+12Awesome!!!
EvE is the definitive MMORPG. You can be a Commodities Trader, Pirate, Mission Runner, Fleet Commander, Coporation CEO, Grunt... the list goes on and on. This game is casual friendly in that the skills that make you better train while you are offline. If you need to go on vacation or whatnot, just set a long skill and you won't fall behind.
It's what you make of it. - moliver21, on 06/12/2009, -0/+7Okay, THIS link looks much better. Yeah, no idea wtf Kolding is up to, but it's lame.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -0/+7While is may accomplish the mission of keeping you subscribed, just the sheer fun of playing should do that for you and if it doesn't, what are you still playing for.
Secondly, I like the skill system. The reason is because EVE was designed more for adults than for kids, and as such they know that it benefits people who have careers and families to be able to make progress even when life doesn't let you log enormous amounts of play time. - Locupleto, on 06/12/2009, -6/+13EVE rocks as long as you have a long attention span and enjoy thinking.
- doom777, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6Uhhh... youtube was brought down.
- MxM111, on 06/12/2009, -1/+7You summitry the EVE gameplay pretty much, except for the cool part.
Overall it is much more interesting to read/watch about EVE than to play it. - mizzrym, on 06/12/2009, -6/+12EVE is a game for people who don't need their hand held through an MMO. If you need to be told what to do/how to play, EVE is not a game for you. Go play Warcraft with the other kids.
- daPhoenix, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6Actually boiling water tends to have a purpose.
- christoast, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6EVE's on digg a lot these days. I'm on my 4th day trail and im going to be buying a sub.
- iticu, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Eve is the best MMO if you have the time for it.
It's a love/hate relationship. - MasterGrief, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5This is fantastic. This is like that mercenary corporation take-down that took three years of planning to execute, but even better because this one has Goons in it!
Man, say what you want about EVE, but you can do some seriously epic stuff in it. - stacydigg, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Simply Amazing.
- christoast, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Best response ever.
- RyanBlueThunder, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5It's all relative. At one point losing my Caracal felt like a huge loss. (I actually lost my first Caracal on its maiden voyage...which felt like such a terrible waste). Then I was able to buy a Drake and the Isk started rolling in with the level 3's. Now that I've been in the Drake for a while, losing it would still suck, but the thing holding me back from the Raven isn't Isk, it's the skills I need to perma-boost tank the Raven. Really, losing the Isk for a ship (Tech I insured) & modules isn't that bad, it's the pain and lost time in hunting down all the modules to properly fit the replacement ship.
That said, 3 months into the game as a noob, I still find it enjoyable, and I realize I haven't even touched the parts that make EvE so rewarding (PvP, exploration etc). Once I get my mission running Raven generating level 4 isk, I'll maybe join a corp and can focus my skill training to exploration (and possibly moving away from missiles into gunnery...that railgun sniper-Rokh looks interesting). - kiffar, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Amazing video, I love EVE
- ApokalypseNow, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5EVE is very pretty, but it is 95% mind-numbing boredom combined with 5% fun - that 5% is tainted by macro miners, gate camps, and pirates. I prefer more fun in my gaming experience.
- curtisag, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5That's what I hated about the Star Wars Galaxies MMO, the missions were so boring and repetitive.
- Unremarkable, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5You can lose your ***** playing WoW. Your house, you car, your kids.. etc.
- Valyn, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5You don't lose everything you own. You lose everything you brought to the fight. BIG difference. Eve is not WoW. A huge portion of your ability is your personal skill, and understanding the game, not how long you grind each day.
- SkullPizza, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5this comment is not how eve works, clones, ship insurance.... etc
granted you will still lose, especially on the weapons and items you equipped on your ship and the cargo youw ere holding, but you def don't lose everything if you play smart - ArrakisDune, on 06/12/2009, -6/+11As opposed to Wow's 'well hidden spreadsheets on terrain'?
It's a real shame that a lot of people don't see past the 'spreadsheets in space' comment that gets reiterated so often on Digg in regards to EvE. Sure, *huge* amount of the game could be attributed to that, but then again almost any game out can have game theory applied to it, including WoW and other MMOs. Some of the older role playing games that required a character sheet, pencil and a big rubber put EvE to shame in terms of spreadsheet like methods. It's not like you have to even worry about these backend 'spreadsheets' anyway - They are there if you digg that kinda thing, but you can largely ignore them if you just want to blow stuff up.
"+5% damage to whatever turret" is hardly stressing most peoples brains. You train it another level and you get more power. I'm at a loss why people get hooked onto trying to apply this to spreadsheets....the game tells you the result for most things if you click "show info" on it.
The number of things you can do in EvE dwarfs most other MMOs....hence *why* there is a large 'spreadsheet' like backend should you want to go and look at it. Any game as large as EvE is going to have the same sizeable game theory applicable to it. 'spreadsheets in space' doesn't make a bad game (CCPs inability to fix bugs does though), and I hope people who haven't tried it don't jump to the conclusion that it's a bad thing. - Valyn, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Missions were good money as a solo pilot, but they were the WoW equivalent of grinding. If I want to grind, I'll do it with my friends on another MMO. That is why I left Eve. The game is brilliant. I can see why people love playing it. But finding a good corp is horrible.
- trevordj, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4And how different is that as opposed to grinding? They're two sides of the same coin, just instituted differently in their respective gaming environments.
To grinding I say no thanks. - link2009, on 06/12/2009, -3/+7Dear God amen, at least some people still have common sense.
'Sense of adventure'? Get out the house ...goddamn. - puttly, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4If any of you are interested, EVE is onsale on steam for $7.94 right now :)
- zirce, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4Wow.
I'd say this is even better than Clear Skies. - relaxeder, on 06/12/2009, -3/+7Okay, space cadet.
- xDynaBlade, on 06/12/2009, -2/+5***** yeah Caldari.
- Daemastrius, on 06/12/2009, -1/+4 "A huge portion of your ability is your personal skill, and understanding the game, not how long you grind each day."
It's not about how much you grind each day. It's about how much you grind each year. - 2Bnor2B, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3I agree with Tenareth..
An overlapping two class system of combat would be cool.
Battle Ships and Destroyers etc - click based targeting
Fighters - small twitch based and air combat tactics
(You can even permit the fighters to land on carriers to repair and refuel)
EVE is a strong, time proven MMO and it will only get better over time. I do not doubt a layer fps fighter base combat, in addition to the current combat system, will come eventually. - Cyclozion, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/youtube.com
