- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -38/+174DRM is like taking two ***** in the ass at the same time, but not regular *****, I'm talking the huge porno sized ones.

- phirestyle, on 09/26/2008, -10/+77Awww... that's cute. Poor MPAA. If I want your *****, your DRM won't stop me.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -2/+64EA is a horrible company. I hope they lose and drm becomes illegal.

Mmmm you like that don't you bitch - santaliqueur, on 09/26/2008, -3/+41Is that the first analogy you thought of? Huge *****?
- Cjaiceman, on 09/26/2008, -1/+39I love how they put all this DRM and SecuROM on their game, and it was STILL pirated the day it came out, which of course made all the DRM protection pointless. When will they learn, ITS NOT HARD TO BYPASS DRM.
- Benjigga, on 09/26/2008, -3/+38Who didn't see this coming? You can't limit media to buyer like EA has done.
This reminds me of Sony getting sued over not allowing buyers to make personal copies of CD's. - kidwithsword, on 09/26/2008, -2/+33Christ!!! I didn't realize just how bad SecuROM was until I read that .pdf! EA deserves to get sued up the ass for using it! I really hope I haven't somehow installed it on my computer... Is there any way you can tell?
- esfisher, on 09/26/2008, -2/+31I'm assuming the box doesn't say that it requires or installs SecureROM on your computer, so it could amount to fraud/deceptive practices.
- Llanowar, on 09/26/2008, -2/+28I know quite a bunch who like that.
Is there anyone (except for the idiot bosses who put it in games) that likes DRM? - TommyHigh, on 09/26/2008, -2/+28Good analogy.
- Iamien, on 09/26/2008, -3/+28True. Maybe we can get rid of programs like securerom.
- rip911, on 09/26/2008, -1/+25hey now....girls have butts too.
- reverland, on 09/26/2008, -4/+28As much as I used to hate the requirement of having the disk in the drive, I would rather they just go back to that form of DRM. At least then I could sell the game after I was done with it or not worry about them going bankrupt and turning off their validation servers.
- Tolzmaniac, on 09/26/2008, -14/+37these comments suck
:( - chevriley, on 09/26/2008, -3/+25your -8 diggs are because everybody hates whingy crybaby comments about the politics/mechanics/whatever of digg.
- lex0nyc, on 09/26/2008, -2/+24You know nothing of my work!
- cmf2, on 09/26/2008, -2/+23you re-format
- RoboHobo, on 09/26/2008, -1/+19Uninstall any games that use securom.
Try their uninstaller, run the exe with the /fulluninstall switch:
http://www.securom.com/support/SecuROM_Uninstaller ...
Any remaining files (hidden folder in user dir) and registry keys can be left alone or deleted if you wish. Sony deliberately makes these items difficult to delete, which is retarded, but they can be safely ignored. Here's some instructions for getting rid of them:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/98241-13-remove- ...
Be aware that after deleting these files, reinstalling the game on the same computer might use up another authorization. I'm not sure if spore's version of securom adds anything new to the mix, hopefully I haven't missed anything. And btw, I agree that DRM is utter ***** and a complete waste of time, but I'd take some of the claims from this lawsuit with a massive pile of salt. - Audacitor, on 09/26/2008, -1/+18...The MPAA only deals with movies. This is a video game, and as such is subject to the ESRB (the Entertainment Software Rating Board). However, the ESRB isn't responsible for DRM. Your beef is with EA and, if you wanna get to the source, Sony DADC.
True though, DRM is simply a waste of time for anyone who uses it on their products. "We're losing money because of the pirates!" No you're not, you're losing money paying DRM companies for products that don't work. - Samohtneas, on 09/26/2008, -2/+19How exactly do you remove SecuROM from your computer?
- bobrobon, on 09/26/2008, -2/+17When in doubt, sue!
- terracottapai, on 09/26/2008, -2/+15Anal-ogy
- Swellin, on 09/26/2008, -5/+18STOP BITCHING CLEAR ENOUGH?
- Virgule, on 09/26/2008, -1/+13Answering myself here.. Im reading the PDF. It says right there (page 3) the only way to get rid of it is to format or replace the whole damn drive.
OK. Can't blame EA for seeking to protect their business and interests but installing a virus is not the right way. - Virgule, on 09/26/2008, -1/+13What bothers me the most about DRM is that the only interaction we have with it is of the nagging type.. I rank DRM right next to pay toilets.
You can't do this...
You must authenticate/validate/bend over to use that...
You have only 3 tries.. - Gndoab, on 09/26/2008, -1/+13it has sold over a million copies. I doubt it.
- jmandawg, on 09/26/2008, -4/+15I bet EA is wishing this game stayed cancelled...
- Crynos, on 09/26/2008, -1/+12Except for the fact it installs it without your knowledge.
- Dracusis, on 09/26/2008, -2/+12I wouldn't know what that feels like but I'm a little disturbed that you do.
- Typhoon2009, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out. Sony lost their rootkit case right? If big Sony can lose a suit like this...
- TonyTheTerrible, on 09/26/2008, -6/+15rofl
- TVarmy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8Not really. Some people could enjoy the stated scenario, but nobody enjoys DRM.
- blankoboy, on 09/26/2008, -1/+9I didn't. EA won't get a cent from me ever on any platform (DRM or not).
- Palaceguard, on 09/26/2008, -1/+8Actually, she does have a case for DRM not being properly labeled on the CD ROM or case. That's what the lawsuit is based on. Read the PDF court filings. It has nothing to do with DRM itself
- Lorddias, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7I pirated this game days BEFORE it came out and I don't have any SecureRom ***** on my pc. What did we learn from this? Pirating is golden.
- BooneFaustus, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7Do you post that in every article about spore? I know I've seen that comment at least once before.
- rydawg09, on 09/26/2008, -8/+14lol
- bagboyrebel, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6The people who make the DRM? Assuming they don't already hate themselves for making it.
- fcukthisgame, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6you mean ANALogy
- DigxDug, on 09/26/2008, -4/+10Yea dude no one give's a *****.
Just like all those jackasses that post "ZOMG THIS IS A DUPE HERE'S THE LINK" like halfway down the page.
No one cares. - ShuttleXpC, on 09/26/2008, -2/+8Both attempts at getting software that was installed the same way Spore's is were won. EA has no chance, their lawyers aren't gonna win and they are going to have to remove the crap from their disks. This should be hilarious watching EA waste all this money trying to defend themselves.
- cmf2, on 09/26/2008, -3/+9Where does the package say that it secretly installs a trojan that you can't remove?
- terminal157, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6"I have no idea what we're talking about here, just letting you all know."
- latrosicarius, on 09/26/2008, -1/+6They actually got sued for installing an invisible rootkit on people's computers (which by the way, inspired a multitude of real rootkit-based malware attacks) IIRC
one good thing about that whole fiasco though, is it actually progressed the anti-virus industry, which previously didn't even know what a rootkit was. - TommyHigh, on 09/26/2008, -4/+9dedodddddeedoddddddeedoddddddeedoddddddeedoddddddeedodddddd?
