- Christbait, on 01/21/2008, -4/+537EA making a free game? Hell just froze over. Twice.
- bdub92, on 01/21/2008, -2/+420FREE*
-Game does not include textures, characters, sounds, or game engine, each can be bought separately. - darkchild82, on 01/21/2008, -5/+278I know Team Fortress 2 wasn't free so don't flame me with the fact that I got the headline wrong in case you didn't understand it. The headline block has only so much space.
- inactive, on 01/21/2008, -1/+256i'm still gonna steal it somehow, yarrrrrrrrrr
- luke16, on 01/21/2008, -3/+238We gotta get Admiral Ackbar to check if it's a trap first.
- SuicideFLip, on 01/21/2008, -0/+197I really hope there aren't ads on the sides of the tanks...
- ieataquacrayons, on 01/21/2008, -1/+135I hope so, I'd love to blow up a walmart tank.
- 9mmCensor, on 01/21/2008, -0/+134"The games has a "cartoon-feel" and has been made simpler to play, with more emphasis on participation and fun than skill and strategy.
Ben Cousins, senior producer at Dice, told BBC News that no adverts would be appear in the game itself.
"They wouldn't work inside the fictional world. Instead, adverts will appear on the website and the 'front-end' of the game."
Gamers will be able to buy items which customize their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons. "

Notes: no ingame ads, no buying weapons, and noob friendly - they, on 01/21/2008, -1/+115I love how TF2 is on the cover as well ^_^
- darkchild82, on 01/21/2008, -1/+91there is - advertising... & given that its EA, there's gonna be LOADS of it !
- Double-Z, on 01/21/2008, -1/+73They say "It will run on your grandmother's laptop"... So it's going to suck then? (p133 laptop, 96mb, shared video memory)

- robuk24, on 01/21/2008, -2/+66Looks good, will be interesting to see how they handle the advertising and micro transactions.
- PopeAmadeus, on 01/21/2008, -2/+53EA Would pull that *****.
- ursername180, on 01/21/2008, -0/+49The game has horrible loading times and requires hundreds of patches?
- Jarnis, on 01/21/2008, -2/+48Of course - ads and "microtransactions". I'm sure they'll sell you a better gun for 2$ etc.
- briansearles, on 01/21/2008, -0/+46They'll be paying for it by giving you advertisements to fly Continental in a WW2-era game.
- Gryffydd, on 01/21/2008, -0/+43Nah, they just didn't pay any of their programmers, that's why they could do it for free.
- HaltingPoint, on 01/21/2008, -1/+43Exactly. There is NEVER a free lunch with EA and they wouldn't be doing this unless they thought they could get MORE money than with their previous "buy the game" model.
We already know ads will be prominent since they had no qualms against shoving them into 2142, which you paid for (which is what made me not purchase it). My guess is it will either be an attempt at having you shell out a monthly fee for a matchmaking service or like the parent said, micro transactions. Perhaps a monthly fee to get RID of the advertising?
Now THAT's ingenious. Introduce a very annoying "feature" like ads, and then make people pay extra to get rid of them. - tehshingen, on 01/21/2008, -2/+42Enemy boat spotted.
- WernerCD, on 01/21/2008, -1/+40Heres your gun...
your ammo clips...
your rocket launcher..
...
Whats that? Ammo... now that's gonna cost ya... lets go over here to the register. - msmallcombe, on 01/21/2008, -5/+42What's the catch?
- ryodoan, on 01/21/2008, -0/+37Note: requires hundreds of patches, yet only gets 3 or 4, each of which is 400MB+ and only fix half the problems.
- fuliginosus, on 01/21/2008, -2/+38I say No Thanks!
I don't want to play games, where players compete with their wallet instead of their skill. - 9mmCensor, on 01/21/2008, -3/+39Considering how buggy BF2 was, and you were expected to pay for that, I have serious reservations about ever seeing this game in a playable state.
- chris9902, on 01/21/2008, -0/+34The Battlefield guy looks like TF2's heavy went on a diet. It's almost a carbon copy.
- sgtpppr, on 01/21/2008, -0/+32You'll get the joy that is the EA Download Manager! It siphons off your soul a little bit at a time over many months.
- M4v3rIC, on 01/21/2008, -1/+32No, TF2 wasn't free. but you still get 5 games for 50$
- holzp, on 01/21/2008, -2/+33Darn. Guess I will be waiting for the next next Battlefield.
- Dragular, on 01/21/2008, -1/+31Hell if it's a good game the graphics don't matter. I don't need everything to be ultra shiny to frag *****.
... plus I'm using a three year old laptop with integrated Intel graphics, having something to play that was made after 2005 would be wonderful. - hadak, on 01/21/2008, -3/+30Quake Wars has ads. They're not obtrusive. I'll gladly look at a billboard in game if I get a free game, or free online play out of it.
- Tiberiansun292, on 01/21/2008, -2/+29I hope this is Fake. God that would sux. I want my battlefield 3 with the frost engine.
- cawpin, on 01/21/2008, -1/+28EA doesn't have a fanbase.
- topace3000, on 01/22/2008, -4/+27Nothern Hemisphere for LIFE bitch.
- inactive, on 01/21/2008, -2/+24Enjoy your in game Ads
- darkchild82, on 01/21/2008, -0/+21oh yeah, forgot about microtransactions! for all you know, you'll get a few maps for free & a few weapons - anything more you'll have to pay or will be ad-supported.
- freebirdpat, on 01/21/2008, -2/+23Ah ha, thats the ticket.... It must be a Vista only game, because every computer that runs Vista runs like a p133 laptop....
- jtwesley17, on 01/21/2008, -4/+25New way to combat torrent downloading?
- phoenixp3k, on 01/21/2008, -0/+21If they pull a Valve expect the game for summer 2009. :p
- ours, on 01/21/2008, -0/+20Maybe they'll make you watch a 5 minute presentation from their sponsors before each round.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/21/2008, -1/+20release it as GPL!
- Double-Z, on 01/21/2008, -4/+23Did they ever fix BF2? I gave up on it after six months of patches screwing things up.
- wheezyninja, on 01/21/2008, -2/+19The EA Marketing team just read your idea, and likes it. Wait and see Madden '09 RPG's
- Naughtyme, on 01/21/2008, -0/+16You pay for only cosmetic changes - NOT better guns...see here:
