- swantonamobay, on 06/01/2009, -10/+385Releasing a sequel a year after the original is the least valve-like thing I've ever heard, I wish this was just a DLC and they were announcing Counter-strike 2 or Half-life 3 or something new entirely.
- DoctuhJason, on 06/01/2009, -14/+226I refuse to believe that a company like Valve would make a move this stupid. EA has infected them. Or something.
- Pamkhat, on 06/01/2009, -5/+207Disappointed that they're not really giving the first game a chance to live. In a matter of speaking.
- CanadianCheese, on 06/01/2009, -5/+185Yay, just in time for Half Life 2, Episode 3!
Wait... what? - Fejerro, on 06/01/2009, -10/+160You guys realize E3 doesn't even officially begin until tomorrow, right? Do you actually think Valve has completely abandoned its flagship franchise?
Valve is all about surprising its fan base, and doing a very good job of it. Don't be so quick to condemn just because they are doing something unorthodox. - themastersb, on 06/01/2009, -13/+151WTF? So I spent $50 for nothing on the first Left 4 Dead? I mean sure it was great and everything, but it had such little content I was expecting more than some survival mode. Screw it I'm waiting for till the new one drops to $30 at least before buying it.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/01/2009, -2/+131wow thats seems so un-valve like.
- bostondrummer1, on 06/01/2009, -9/+117PILLS HERE!
- relaxeder, on 06/01/2009, -4/+112Dang, seriously? I love Left4Dead, but has it even been six months since it was released? A little early for a sequel, at least that's what I think.
Where's Half-Life 2: Episode Three and Portal 2? I'll be miffed if this is all Valve announces at E3. :[ - jacksons98, on 06/01/2009, -7/+113Valve finish the first one
- Firespray1138, on 06/01/2009, -4/+106As awesome as this is, where the ***** is HL2 Episode 3? Or HL3?
- joebus, on 06/01/2009, -5/+92I seriously doubt I'll spend 50 dollars for 5 new campaigns. The SDK isn't even out for L4D and they have already announced the sequel? Sounds kinda lame to me. The only way I'll be buying the sequel will be if they release it in another Orange Box kind of system. If it comes with Portal 2, HL:EP3 and L4D2, then that is a deal I can spend my money on, but not just another sequel that has been announced 6 months after the first game came out.
- shadebane, on 06/01/2009, -2/+70It is disappointing if this is released as a stand alone game. I can understand an expansion, but shelling out another $50 for this seems pretty greedy.
- ahall07, on 06/01/2009, -1/+69This really needs to be a $20-25 expansion, not another game for $50
- barf314, on 06/01/2009, -4/+70EA, this is not Madden. You don't need to remake it every year.
- alexforcefive, on 06/01/2009, -3/+65Orange Box 2? omfg :D :D :D :D :D :D
- Spire3660, on 06/01/2009, -11/+68Thats *****. They never even fully updated the original. THis is like announcing a TF3 without finishing up the other class updates. Not gonna say '***** Valve" but I am VERY disappointed
- 00000, on 06/01/2009, -7/+63I feel ripped off
The only reason I bought left 4 dead for $50 was because the new content they'd release and now valve pulls this ***** wtf? - Snottlebocket, on 06/01/2009, -1/+55In a way that's kind of disappointing. I bought left 4 dead knowing it only had 4 campaigns and hoping it would receive the same kind of love and support team fortress 2 does.
- harpoonhank420, on 06/01/2009, -3/+56Dear Valve.
HALF LIFE EPISODE 3 WOULD BE COOL AS WELL - amorpheus, on 06/01/2009, -6/+56Half-Life 2 Episode 3 is overdue.
L4D2 just doesn't look like such a great idea - oh look, it's the same game with different characters and maps! - 00000, on 06/01/2009, -9/+56"This is ridiculous. I bought L4D because I knew it would be kickass and that Valve would support it after release, just like TF2. I was disappointed by how little content there was for L4D, but it was alright because Valve would of course release new maps to play on.
Then they abandon it, to release the same game with different textures? Want to guess how fast the community will split? L4D isn't even finished, EP3 is no-where to be seen, but they kind find time to make this. They were my absolute favorite game developers. ***** Valve."
-steam forum poster - DaFox, on 06/01/2009, -7/+53Its actually Valve South that released L4D, and will be releasing L4D 2.
They are the same GREAT! team that brought you such games as Counter-Strike: Condition Zero!
oh wait. - diggB, on 06/01/2009, -9/+55Sounds like I may be in the minority, but I've played 100's of hours of L4D and would gladly pay another $50 for a sequel. Call me hooked.
- Klowner, on 06/01/2009, -1/+43b-b-b-bu-but it has a chainsaw!
- sciss0rz, on 06/01/2009, -1/+37In case you missed it, the teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xe0ORjFGCk&hd= ...
edit; The article was updated with the video and press release. :) - NikoKun, on 06/01/2009, -0/+34Yeah... I can't believe they aren't just expanding upon the existing L4D game. Why not just release an expansion pack or something... -_-
And where is Portal 2? lol - kenhatesemos, on 06/01/2009, -1/+31manner.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 06/01/2009, -0/+28I hope they have more guns. The one thing I didn't like was the lack of an assortment of guns.
- PhonicUK, on 06/01/2009, -4/+31Works for me!
- alpharaptor, on 06/01/2009, -1/+27GRABBIN' PEEYULZ
- wesleyzero, on 06/01/2009, -2/+28Now with 30% more Witch.
- venomoushealer, on 06/01/2009, -1/+27Thank you for bringing some reasoning to this thread
- NikoKun, on 06/01/2009, -1/+25Why the hell are they talking about making a whole new game now? What about the 4 original characters which the devs spent TONS of time perfecting?
What about all the promises of updates and expansions, new maps and such??? What about the community-life-time of the old game?
This move seems more like a money making load of *****, than what Valve should actually be doing.
Why give TF2 so many great things... but then cut L4D short, spitting in the face of all of us who bought it, expecting the same level of treatment?
The first game IS, as I see it, unfinished... We need more stuff for THAT... not a whole new game... -_- How disappointing. I hope the community voices their disappointment. - shadebane, on 06/01/2009, -7/+30well since the editing tools are releaseed im sure there will be plenty of user made maps and modes. Dont forget what makes valve games so great, the mod community.
Unless you were silly enough to buy it for xbox 360... - mojomogul, on 06/01/2009, -3/+25Did I just hear an AD reference in the IGN trailer, "...shoot the guy in the thousand-dollar suit - C'MON!"
Instant buy. - kahoona1, on 06/01/2009, -1/+22All we need is them to announce Portal 2 and it's a done deal!
- 2Bnor2B, on 06/01/2009, -0/+21I do not know whether to Bury or DIgg this!
I have grown attached to the current survivors in L4D. I would rather see the expansion continue with them. The SDK tools are finally maturing. It seems strange, because half the text in Valve's news release is boasting about how much money will be spent on promoting this title. I think that this expansion may be the first flop Valve has made. I would not be surprised if a large percentage of this marketing budget will be spendt trying to fix their image in the end. - GravyDavy, on 06/02/2009, -0/+20We haven't heard ANYTHING about HL2: Episode 3, or about Portal 2. I want to know how the story ends! Then we can wait another 6 or 7 years before HL3 comes out. *sigh*

?
Valve bought Turtle Rock Studios, who were responsible for creating many Counter-Strike maps, the Counter-Strike bot AI, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Turtle Rock Studios was renamed to Valve South as Turtle Rock is based in California and Valve is based in Washington. The purchase was made a little while after Turtle Rock announced that they would be developing Left 4 Dead. - crackedlogic, on 06/01/2009, -1/+18Valve actually has a lot of good qualities that make it great, like giving a ***** about their consumers. The community gives back to the games because they like what they're sold and they want to add to the experience. Valve's consumer-centric mindset is what makes them so great...don't forget that, and releasing a game that cuts the legs out from under one of their newest releases is NOT consumer-centric.
- Remmiz, on 06/01/2009, -1/+18It would be worth $50 if they had continued with their promise of free DLC.
- alexforcefive, on 06/01/2009, -4/+21it's the same game with different characters and maps, and an updated engine. Sorta like the half-life episodes which we love so dearly, no?
- Shawn4168, on 06/01/2009, -1/+18FTA: "PC Gamer has the full scoop in an exclusive 8-page feature in their August issue, which hits newsstands this month."
lolwut - RapidDave, on 06/01/2009, -1/+17I think this is the first mistake Valve has EVER made. They have had a flawless streak for many many years. Who knows, maybe this will be another great game.
- EvanGH, on 06/02/2009, -2/+18Man, no one hates their own hobby as much as gamers do.
- MalikNYC, on 06/01/2009, -0/+15http://store.steampowered.com/news/2552/
- sickthoughts, on 06/01/2009, -0/+15This is very strange indeed.
- themastersb, on 06/01/2009, -0/+15This is pretty unexpected.... Episode 3 ***** where!?
