- anxdiety, on 01/06/2009, -2/+30So why link to the advertisers like PC gaming rather than the wiki link that they use as the basis for their article?

- mwrl, on 01/05/2009, -1/+10Interesting list. Still got to love Star Control 2!
- gfail, on 01/05/2009, -1/+9Hold my calls.
- Halsfield, on 01/06/2009, -1/+8a lot of websites are business ventures trying to make a buck. i don't have a problem with people trying to make a profit, as long as they don't have obnoxious ads(especially the kind with sound that dont have a volume off button), they arent outright stealing content, and they give full credit and links.
this particular article was a little weak ill admit, it was basically a list of games in paragraph form with a few comments about downloading freeware, but every last one of their titles linked to wiki and they did give full credit. if you have a problem with finding cool things on the net and linking to them, digg does exactly the same thing. - Lawbringer, on 01/06/2009, -1/+7I think I owned a few of these games, now i feel cheated as i paid for them, If only i would have waited 12 or so years!
- talon146, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6This is also a great site for older games that are now free:
http://www.abandonia.com/ - bekeleven, on 01/06/2009, -2/+7Why is Descent II not mentioned.
Why.
Post: A 3D game that changed the scene in 1996? The best 6DOF shooter to be made? Works for free on XP? Absurdly low system requirements (8MB ram, 486 or better)? Sign me up! - JerzyBricklayr, on 01/06/2009, -2/+7Don't feed the trolls.
- bryano, on 01/06/2009, -5/+10Download dozens of commerical PC games free? I thought they're all free, courtesy of thepiratebay.
- MrTito, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5Subspace beta was my first real taste of online gaming. Leviathan + mines + tunnels = bliss.
- JAVandiver, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5One Must Fall: 2097 -- Awesome! I did not do any work in English class because of that game, just played against one of my classmates via serial cable.
- StyngerSmash, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5I love Railroad Tycoon!!!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/3483/ - ricree, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4You might want to look into Open TTD (http://www.openttd.org/en/ ). It's a similar game that includes air, water, and road transportation as well. It's open source, and they've put in a fair amount of work to expand the options and improve the interface.
- Kardde, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4That was my reaction, too. That game was great back in the day.
Anyone know where I can grab it? Is there a Mac client available? - StrangeFamous, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4I loved that game back in the day.
Also Abuse, Battle Chess, Marathon, One Must Fall:2097, Tribes
Abandonia.com is an awesome site for abandonware, if anyone's into the older titles and wants to get nostalgic.
There's also Home of the Underdogs... - l0tharnt, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Im wanting some Monkey Island, Loom, Jill of the Jungle...and Jazz jackrabit!
- chachi04, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Abandonia and DOSBox go hand in hand:
http://www.dosbox.com/ - MrElRayes, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3www.getsubspace.com
its now called Continuum, its the exact same game but it was rewritten so Virgin couldnt sue the community. - JerzyBricklayr, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Good looking out, I didnt even know that was there.
- Mujokan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Don't know why they have to be snarky about Wikipedia. Everyone knows the score when they go there. If you're unsure, cross-reference it. And of course don't use it as a primary source for academic stuff. But I use it constantly as a first step. I am also going to bitch and moan about dating Elite to 1991 when it comes from the mid Eighties.
One phenomenon maybe worth mentioning here is open source remakes of games like Quake, Colonization, Privateer. There are some guys putting in incredible effort out there. Another area where people put in a lot of work is of course emulation. - merreborn, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3You enjoyed it more then than you would now. Trust me.
Try playing some of these games now. Most of them don't really stand up to the test of time terribly well. There are a few exceptions though. - dsmx, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Hunt around a bit you can find them easily.
- thinch, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2GTA 2 http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/index.html
- CrimsonFlash, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Actually, does anyone know where I can download C&C Gold, and Red Alert? I've looked on the Westwood site, but it seems EA is a bunch of jerks and doesn't have it up to download.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3There are a lot more older ones if you know where to look. Home of the Underdogs has had a very nice collection for a long time. Just google "abandonware" and turn your malware scanners on. There are some good sites there. It isn't exactly legal, but the game devs don't exactly care either.
- hypogenic, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Don't worry, just do what I do. I just find a game that I like today (for instance, GTA 4) and set a reminder for myself in the year 2020 to check if it has had become abandonware.
- allocate, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Oh nice, Savage 2 is freeware now? Is it any good?
- MrElRayes, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3www.getsubspace.com
- Shawn4168, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I don't think so...I think Commander Keen 1 and 4 were shareware for a while...however, you can get 1-5 for $5 on Steam...great deal.
- FruitBoy, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I hear this site called 'the pirate bay' is still around...
- oGEEKGUYo, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Uh... did you read the article?

- antdude, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2I remember its online play and music.
- antdude, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2There's a demo. :P
- fluxrez, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1nice, I forgot about that one. I think it was made by the same folks who made subspace/continuum... It was real similar none the less
- pcstuffsandmore, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1found this site its more updated with latest games http://pcstuffsandmore.blogspot.com take a look
- joellyjoel, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Oh wow, they have SimCity on their complete list. I would have done a lot better in college if I hadn't have had that game..lol
- OropheR, on 01/06/2009, -2/+3that is probably the only valuable info in his article. But indeed, it needs to be double checked. There is still a kind of premium version for 9.99...
