- saikyan, on 11/03/2009, -2/+80$20 for more game than most console titles.
- Frankzulla, on 11/03/2009, -2/+45I've been looking forward to try this game. I'm hoping it will help with my diablo cravings until the glorious day that 3 is released.
- ErrorLoading, on 11/03/2009, -1/+36Doubtful. The wine would likely conduct electricity and ruin your machine.
- Genecalypse, on 11/03/2009, -2/+34Played through the story already, this game is amazing its just what you need to appease the D3 craving.
- thephosphorbox, on 11/03/2009, -1/+30Torchlight is fantastic! I've been addicted to it since it came out last week.. it plays just like Diablo for the most part. Great to finally have a 3-D Diablo clone with randomized dungeons.
- ZombieSociety, on 11/03/2009, -0/+27Diablo? Loner? The? I'm in!
- Wigmeister, on 11/03/2009, -1/+22Try Titan Quest. I liked that one a lot.
- ZackAttack007, on 11/03/2009, -2/+21It's very good the first playthrough. I don't know long the appeal will last but I'm having a blast for now.
Then again for $20 it's ok if it's short. - Yellowphant, on 11/03/2009, -1/+20Er... for some reason I read that as "losers", not "loners."
I'm sorry. :( - reyoo30309, on 11/03/2009, -0/+18If you played Fate or Mythos expect more of the same. Only don't let the cartoon style graphics fool you its a pretty bloody game.
The major plus to this game will come in future because you are free to modify it you can expect new content from other users. (Thats something that was very hard to do in D2 not to mention discouraged by Blizzard) - christianboutin, on 11/03/2009, -0/+18Dugg because it was made with the open-source graphics engine Ogre.
- reyoo30309, on 11/03/2009, -0/+17Theoretically you could play forever. Its built in a similar way to D2. With the added bonus of an infinite dungeon.
- Mossman85, on 11/03/2009, -1/+16This game is great. Don't pirate it, support this independent company so they can make a sequel with multilayer.
- ThantiK, on 11/03/2009, -2/+16Very awesome looking game. My wife got into gaming through Diablo I and II, I hope to show her this. There were a couple diablo clones she tried but none of them kept her attention for long. This one looks like it will ;)
- airwalke, on 11/03/2009, -1/+15Torchlight is pretty good -- because it's made by the same guys behind Diablo (hell the composer is the same) it all felt very familiar, but also fixed a few things that annoyed me about Diablo 2. The only thing I hate about it is the repetitive environments. Yes the dungeons are randomized, but you can tell that they're a series of pre-made rooms strung together in a random order, but when you see the same room with the same lever to open the hidden room with the same stash of gold littered across the floor half a dozen times, it gets old.
And a word to the wise -- I played Diablo 2 before, but not religiously... hell, I never even finished it. You can almost play Torchlight on Normal blindfolded. It's almost too easy to jump ahead in levels and be 5-6 levels ahead of everything else in the dungeon, so that you're one and two-shotting everything in your path. And I also got more health potions and mana potions than I knew what to do with except sell off.
Can't wait for the editor to come out though, to see what the mod community can bring about. - Borgcube, on 11/03/2009, -1/+14You're doing it wrong
- Methusalah, on 11/03/2009, -1/+14I'll accept that complaint from console gamers, but few people/places want your used pc games.

tp plz - nepidae, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11because he has wine?
- PlasticHotDog, on 11/03/2009, -1/+9This is the first good hack n slash game to come out for a long time. It puts Titan Quest and Loki to shame.
- JohnFlux, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8Anyone happen to know if this works in wine?
- dhjackburton, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7Diablo 1 is older.
- aleatoric, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8I didn't even realize there wasn't Multiplayer in Torchlight until I read this article. I've been playing it for a couple days now and never thought twice--or even once--about it. I guess I'm weird, but I've always enjoyed playing RPGs by myself, from the Ultima series onward. I did play Diablo 2 online after I beat it my first time and I definitely enjoyed it Single Player just as well as Multiplayer. The last time I played to satisfy my Diablo craving, I played it Single Player as well. I guess I just like creating self-sufficient characters that can wreck havoc on their own. I've played MMOs like EverQuest and DAoC and enjoy playing RPGs with other people... I just can't stand the Bnet crowd. I think that has something to do with why I didn't play Diablo 2 online in the long term after I got my fill in Single Player mode.
- scarritt, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8I LOVE this game. ^^
- PlasticHotDog, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Diablo 2 is older.
- Bulletbillx, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5It wont just be for loners if the multiplayer mod gets off the ground.
- disappointed, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6Well done to the devs for designing the game to be cheap and run on low spec machines. That is exactly what every other PC game developer should be doing. When you create a game for the PC, you have a small enough market as it is without releasing a game that crawls on all but the latest, most expensive tech.
- AndrewDB, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Greatest 20 dollar game I've bought since TF2 .. and hell TF2 wasn't even 20 dollars originally.
It's absolutely a blast. - TheShad0w, on 11/03/2009, -3/+8I did buy it you jackass. I clearly said that. I said I didn't want to buy the STEAM version of the game. The download version you get from paying via paypal has DRM and they send you a code. So before you start speaking out of your ass why not read the whole statement.
- McNerd, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5In fairness, Diablo 2 is an OLD game. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that its dungeon randomization was good for the time, and that we can very reasonably expect better from Diablo 3.
- SACubeMonkey, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5I agree with everything you said including the too many potions thing. Hell, there is honestly too much loot period. I feel like I spend more time sorting my inventory and selling/transmuting stuff than I do fighting. I guess it's a personal problem but I'm such a completionist that I feel compelled to do it.
- Valyn, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6Really looking forward to the editor for this. The flow-chart like scripting system looks amazing. Scripting is why I never got into making stuff for other games since Doom 2's DEU.
- airwalke, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5So very true. Not a couple minutes into a dungeon, and it's already telling me "My PACK is FULL!" ... so I start shift-clicking loot to have my dog pick it up. When his bags are full, off he goes to town to sell it while I continue hacking away.
More often than not, I've actually been selling my green-quality armor using this method, and transmuting all the blue armor. - PenileCommander, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5I've done a couple playthroughs of Demon's Souls but I didn't really get a diablo vibe from it. You're spot on about the atmosphere and the difficulty though. The thing I liked about Demon's Souls was you would learn from your mistakes, and even when you had to repeat sections of a stage again, it was enjoyable. For me diablo 2 was all about the loot.
- Lovecore, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Playing on Very Hard in Hardcore mode helps me pass the time when I need it. The game is good for the $20 you spend, and they are supporting open mods for it! Two thumbs up!
- craigcaski, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4The developers are counting on the community to provide more content. If you take a look at the forums you'll see a very active group of modders.
- Valyn, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4I agree, multiplayer is one of the best parts of an ARPG. Still for 20 bucks, it was worth it, still having fun with it.

For Wizaaards apparently. - PhairOh, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4You're not wrong, but it says that right in the article. That was why you were likely dugg down.
- craigcaski, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4you don't HAVE to buy it on steam.
- CynicalTyler, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4No need to wait to try it. You can download the demo on Steam right now.
- zmower, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Has anyone else found the Sword of Adam? It does 59 emotional damage, has 2 Noodle arms and is 1265 resistant to logic. And it makes a stupid noise when you do anything with it! I'm not kidding. There's a picture of it on my flickr account which I cant get to from work.
- dawgma, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Well, to be fair, those are old games, you know.
- trunk8, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3I bought it and I'm playing it, I love it so far....but I wouldn't go as far as "it puts TQ to shame". Iron Lore did an amazing job with TQ and the expansion, it sure is a shame they're not around anymore (RIP). TQ had a lot more classes and skills (not to mention multiplayer) and those things added another dimension that you can't experience with Torchlight (not yet, anyway). Torchlight is a great game, but TQ deserves its props. I've never played Loki.
- inactive, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3great game, come and help to make the best torchlight mods resoure site:
www.torchlightmods.net - Shaflugi, on 11/03/2009, -0/+320 bucks for 20 hours of gameplay sounds good to me, especially if it's diablo-esque.
- kinseyincanada, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4its a really fun game and well worth the price, but if you are going to play start on hard difficulty normal is a cakewalk, there'salso a hardcore mode where if you die, your character dies for reals.
- Frankzulla, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2I love the god-view camera. I've tried Torchlight since yesterday and they did a great job of it. Although the camera doesn't rotate I never have any trouble keeping up with my avatar any underlings. I wish the game had some, *any* kind of multiplayer, but it's a lot of fun so far regardless.
- Stormwern, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Titan Quest felt way too copy pasted to me, how many half animal half human variations can you put in a game before loosing self respect. Diablo 2 atleast had a thought behind it.
- barcardi, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Played it, almost done, its really great for 20$. Better than most top tier advertised games. I wouldn't necessarily say its totally great though.
