- NeoOfTheSith, on 07/03/2008, -2/+31It's company like VALVe that put the rest of the gaming world to shame!
*headbang* - fandyboy, on 07/03/2008, -1/+23How about a CS:S update?
- lanzemurdok, on 07/03/2008, -1/+10Well, I used to lan with my brother and best friend and this was the only game we would play.. but then tf2 came along and completely made us forget about it. This update reminded me how bad ass this game is. I shall give it another run.
- liah, on 07/03/2008, -3/+11CS:S at least kept the basics and didn't make phenomenally drastic changes as much as they did DoD.
I have a right to complain as this game is called Day of Defeat and the people who played DoD were expecting something that even remotely resembled the older version. We wanted an upgraded engline/better graphics. No major changes to gameplay. What they gave us was a butchered version (CoD-ified) with a horribly ruined cone of fire, loads of glitches, iron sights, smoke grenades, rifle grenades, no pistols, nerfed classes, overpowered classes... NOTHING like our game. They should have just named it something else. It is not Day of Defeat nor will it ever be. They did not listen to the userbase and as it stands right now, Day of Defeat: Source has a smaller player base because they did not listen to what the original 1.3 playerbase wanted. And that is WITH VALVe's support.
1.3 made its way on its own, as an unmarketed mod. It gained a strong, faithful, dedicated userbase. DoD:S has had all the help in the world and it is still floundering. That should tell you enough. - blackmesa, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6I wish more people played DoD:S. It's fun! :D
- borninda818, on 07/03/2008, -1/+6That's a little more difficult. TF2 had classes and so does DoD. That's why it was so easy to implement the same system. They'll get to CSS soon.
- SilentSlayer97, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Played the DoD:S Beta, I'm glad Valve actually did something for DoD, it's been a while. Love this update, I don't understand why some people hate it.
- borninda818, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4by soon I mean eventually
- AndrewDB, on 07/03/2008, -3/+7Maybe it'll be played now?
- TwwIX, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3The 2.0 overhaul never appealed to me. Bring back the good ol' days of dod_hill,omaha and seg3.
A few achievements and an avatar won't revive the game. - BlaenkDenum, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You sound so sure, I hope it's true :/
- chillypacman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2No kidding, the only thing I despise about them is how they release a new awesome game and people stop playing their older awesome game for the new one :(
Happened with DOD:S when TF2 was released, now with this update hoepfully people will start playing it again, this gamer is going to be reinstalling it tonight XD - Vektuz, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2It was probably done because sniper camping makes it fun for 1 person at the detriment to 16 others (his team suffers from extreme campage also). Valve has in recent times generally taken the option that makes the most fun for the most people, rather than the most fun for 1 person at the expense of everyone else.
- estvir, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I was expecting A LOT more from Valve for the next big DoD:S update especially after those videos and the things they said ~ a year ago.
- alerx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2The only reason Day of Defeat went retail was because of the loyal fanbase. The development team used to listen to the CAL-I players for input back before source and it brought them real insight, now it just seems like they are trying to make Call of Duty.
- borninda818, on 07/03/2008, -5/+7Speak for yourself. I play DODS and love every minute of it. Of course it's not like the original. CSS is not like 1.6 either. That is expected of a different engine. And it does not cater to children. Most people I speak to are adult. Very rarely do we get someone under 16, where as in the original CS and DoD, every other player has a high pitched voice. Also, although I wouldn't say the graphics are cartoony, they definately aren't realistic either and I like it that way. If i need realist I'll play the dozens of games out there that are meant to be realistic.
Excuse the rant. In short, I love the game and so do many other people. If you don't like it, play something else, just don't complain. - artofwot, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2With some members of the DoD community (myself *not* included) freaking out about the minor tweaks Valve has made when they ported DoD to a new version of the Source engine, just imagine what hardcore CS fans will do.
Valve better follow Blizzard's example and install bullet proof glass in the lobby ASAP. - Kanten, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Original DoD is still better.
- Harringstone, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3why are you speaking like your the voice of all the fans of day of defeat? its not YOUR game, its theirs, they made the game, they choose what to do with it, not YOU. if you dont like it, dont play it, or better yet why dont you go create YOUR own game.... stop complaining, you sound like the "children" that this game is supposedly catered for.
- PopASquatt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Reinstalling right now!
- latova, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Ugh, not a fan of the domination system. It just gives you a big icon over your head that practically says "change classes and kill me".
- m0laria, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1nade bug in avalanche ftw.
- doughboy334, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1***** finally, but they need to make the weapons like 1.3
- timbro1, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1http://steamcommunity.com/groups/digg
- alerx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I'm glad to see there are some DoDers on Digg. I used to play competitively on a few CAL-i teams, Xeno, 85th and such. I even made it to the finals once. Does anybody remember 1911?
I really miss this game. - nickbertovich, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Have there been any significant upgrades to the game's graphics? I was playing the beta for this update and the only visual difference I found was severe lag in the Allied respawn on dod_anzio.
- FishHammer, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2I don't like the Freeze Cam idea, they shouldn't turn DoD into TF2.
- nickbertovich, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I don't know why you're being dugg down; I kind of agree.
- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0my computer is dow after setup this game :(
http://dienthoaitot.com/ - alerx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0It wasn't just avalanche. It was any spot on the map where the wall met the ground at anything but a 90 degree angle. Pretty big bug in my opinion.
- AnonymousX, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0Still good to hear about Achievements and some new stuff that will finally make it unique to the classic Day of Defeat 1.3 :)
At least, it's like we're playing for something (Achievements, Stats, and Freeze cam for fun) not for nothing. - nickbertovich, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0My eventually he means "I hope so."
- nireus, on 12/16/2008, -1/+0good thanks .
http://sxe.oyunalemi.com - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+0Oh god i really love shooting games
- liah, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2VALVe did not originally create Day of Defeat. It started as a mod. VALVe ruined it.
Ask 90% of competitive 1.3 players and they will say the same as me. - ldailey06, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2too bad the game sucks
- god613, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1FREEZE CAM? 3/4 of being a good sniper is finding a spot where people cant find you. WTF
- iamvahe, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2Why did they change explosions to the TF2 style? The old one fit DoD:S graphical style better.
- rubixqube, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1From an avid DoD'er, the updates that actually affect gameplay suck. And now they're enforced.
- personalj, on 07/03/2008, -4/+3Sweet, time to toss up a server for DoD:S and get to work.
- TsuruchiBrian, on 07/03/2008, -4/+1I used to love this game and I played it a lot back before steam existed. Avalanche was awesome.
You guys should check out forgotten hope.

The version of the mod for BF1942 is just spectacular. The version for Battlefield 2 just came out not to long ago and is improving fast. They are adding more maps, countries, vehicles, weapons, etc. - liah, on 07/03/2008, -14/+9It needs to go back to how it was in Day of Defeat 1.3. Source is awful. The graphics are cartoony. They still haven't given pistols back to all classes. It caters to children and has a very small learning curve. CAL-open teams from Day of Defeat 1.3 have gone to invite in Source in less than a season whereas Source teams coming to 1.3 remain in CAL-open and often never progress. That should say enough.
It is nothing like the original. They should have called it something different-- it is far more akin to Call of Duty than Day of Defeat.
I miss my game, it's the only game I've actually continued to play throughout the years. I wish the graphics weren't so outdated on 1.3 so people would keep playing it instead of crappy Source...
