- Koroush, on 10/30/2007, -0/+71Hi, I'm the site owner of TweakGuides.com. Unfortunately because the link was to a forum post and not the main site itself, MySQL has too many connections and hence the site is currently inaccessible - sorry guys, I'm working on getting it back up shortly.
Note that people who are saying DX10 effects can be enabled in DX9, this is technically incorrect. We cover this in detail in the forum post linked here, along with comparison screenshots, but basically XP cannot use DX10 in any way, no matter what the method. There is a way to force Very High in XP by editing the .cfg files under the Program FilesElectronic ArtsCrytekCrysis SP DemoGameConfigCVarGroups directory - you open each one and copy the text under the top area (4) over the bottom area (3), except for the sys_spec_full.cfg file. Then in-game you set your advanced options all to High, and you get Very High.
However, although this does look much the same as Vista DX10, it doesn't enable all the DX10 shader effects, so it's not exactly the same quality. I do agree though that Crytek should have allowed Very High in XP, but that's clearly a marketing decision on their part.
Anyway apologies for the site being down, I recommend bookmarking it and checking later if you're interested as there's much more of interest in that thread, including details about shortcuts, difficulty settings, various screenshots of tweaks etc.
The full Crysis Tweak Guide will be out in a few days, I'm working flat out on it at the moment :) - Tempest261, on 10/30/2007, -1/+23I worked at NASA. Their computers are terrible.
- hamstu, on 10/29/2007, -1/+17Down already?
- andyw123, on 11/01/2007, -5/+21Let me just say a few things.
First, I have a AMD 64 x2 3800+ with 1 gb "decent" ram, nice hard drive and a lousy 6800gt. I am able to play the game on LOW setting without ANY problems at all. I changed the settings to MEDIUM and noticed MUCH improved graphics, with noticable slowdown in game reactions - but still somewhat playable. I could only imagine how good the graphics are in the highest setting.
One of the best features of the game is the actual gameplay, including some of the graphic improvements - meaning you KNOW an enemy is outside the wall, etc, even with LOW setting you can still shoot the hell out of the wall and destroy it and kill the Enemy - not something you find in current games. The biosuit is awsome! VERY reactive and aware of whats going on - LOVE the cloak ability from the get go.
I would say for TRUE FPS fans, download the demo, buy the game - just try to enjoy it with the best hardware if possible. (Best meaning, get the best you can afford - and then enjoy).
This game, in my opinion, was created as a "long term" game, meaning that it is something we will enjoy somewhat now, and even more so in the near future. Not a game that will be so popular right now, and then die tomorrow because the graphics, etc were outdated. You can see the devs planned alot for those people who have the "extreme" setups - the ones who cannot seem to max out the effects, etc. But they also planned to allow the entry and mid specs to be able to get their feet wet.
This game is awsome for a FPS game. LOTS of nice things that you will find throughout the game that you just don't find in modern games (all included that is) - I just wish that I had the specs to enjoy the FULL effects, etc. - EnergyFlash, on 10/29/2007, -0/+16Thanks for the swift and accurate explanation/work.
- KloroFormd, on 10/29/2007, -2/+16You DO need Vista to get DX10 features in Crysis... but you DON'T need Vista to get Very High textures and effects in DX9. Those have nothing to do with DX9 and DX10, but they have DX9 very high setting locked for some reason.
Everything that requires DX10 won't work with this modification, like object motion blur, and... uhh... that's about it. - Elderon, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14brainboy did you even read the article? you can clearly see the differences
small apology, wrong article. I was thinking of this one http://webpages.charter.net/bliss/
still there are screenshots on that forum that do show the difference - Tempest261, on 10/29/2007, -1/+12The game seems pretty awesome, but this is probably one that I'm going to shelve until my next video card upgrade. The demo just ran too crappy for me at 1920x1200, and I really hate running anything lower than native res. (I'm running an 8800 GTS, BTW). Word is that NVIDIA's next cards will be roughly twice as powerful, so I'm sure the game will be in good shape in a year or so. That's the best and worst part about PC gaming I guess.
- Farik, on 10/31/2007, -0/+11When I landed on the moon last year, I thought our (NASA) computers were pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
- Koroush, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11I know how much it sucks when people see a digg item and it's down. We've also been dugg in the past without any issues, and had huge amounts of traffic, so I was confident it wouldn't happen this time. I was wrong :(
- presidentjapan, on 10/29/2007, -1/+10On what processor? That GTS must be the 320MB, right? 1920 res is too much for most new games @ 320MB.
- Adrnshw6, on 10/29/2007, -1/+9Anyone got a mirror?
- HPCELarry, on 10/29/2007, -1/+9What a lot of people don't realize is that although they may only be able to run the game at medium graphics, medium graphics look really really nice anyway. Ultra high just is amazing though. and probably requites 2 8800ultras if you want a decent fps.
- z0mb13, on 10/31/2007, -10/+18So basically you have to have NASA computer and a 2 gig config to run this game at 30 fps. If only the 360 would allow mouse and keyboard *sigh*.
- arcooke, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8Buried for wit/waz. Quit typing like an idiot.
- Identiti, on 10/29/2007, -4/+11"im rolling" - Hahahaha
- Bara, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8Very useful information on tweaking Crysis, at least until the official tweak guide releases...
- Cubine, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7Well, it's sure as hell pretty. I have yet to discover how it plays.
Damn my radeon 9600. - ren1999, on 10/29/2007, -7/+14This game crawls with my DX9 Core2 and 7900 Nvidia. But when I went from full screen to small window, I could get the graphics to go High. However, when the enemies were shooting me, the game started to drag again. I am going to spend my money on CoD4.
- Lunarbunny, on 10/29/2007, -2/+8Actually it does. I can get 50-60fps steady in CoD4 at max available, 1280x1024 on my 8800GTS 640MB, 3800+ X2, 2GB PC3200. Crysis SP demo gives me 30-40 with dips at 1280x1024 medium.
- carl25, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6good to know that you use a card that has never been made
- ryodoan, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7Thats not even a stretch, you can get a quad core processor for $300, an 8800 GTS for around $350, a good mobo for around $200, and 4 gigs of memory for around $170, If this is a system upgrade then you should already have the rest (Case, PSU, HD).
So thats a total of around $900, toss in the PSU and HD and that will get you to around $1100, a decent case and thats $1200, and those prices are not stretching it at all - shredswithpiks, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5CoD4 ran effortlessly what are you talking about and why are people digging you up?
- tsunami643, on 10/31/2007, -3/+8You say that like Far Cry was a bad game.
- presidentjapan, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Meh, it's Digg. It's unpredictable.
- Bega, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5running on an e4300 @ 3ghz, x1800xt 256 mb, and 4 gb (3.5 usable) ddr2 800 ram, the game on medium goes between 20-40 fps, usually hovering in the mid-low 20s. at all high, there is a 5-7 fps loss in general, (17-22 fps range). Regardless, the framerate was stable, so still playable, but not ideal at all.
Just for fun I did all low at 800x600 except for physics, shadows, particles (cpu intensive) and teh cpu benchmark ran at 45ish. at ALL low it was wicked fast, 90ish. - Rickler, on 10/29/2007, -0/+58k rig?
e6750 $200
p35 mobo $100
4x1gb Wintec 800mhz ram $120
8800GT 512mb $250
380watt antec $50
$720 bucks to play like a god. - LordVance, on 10/29/2007, -1/+5I have a POS pentium d 930 processor and an 8800GTS320 video card; 1680x1050 is a bit choppy with the settings all on High - but if I drop it down to the 1440x900 resolution it runs smooth as eggs.
- SPARTACVS, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6You're a tard. Crysis on Low looks worse and runs slower than Far Cry on Ultra on my PC.
- inigomntoya, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5i wish i had uppercase... :(
- carl25, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6dead
- nonymous666, on 10/31/2007, -1/+4You've not seen much. The jungle environments is onky about 1/3 of the total game.
And so what if it is just FarCry with better graphics? Lots of people wanted an expansion pack for FarCry and never got one. So if we now get an 'expansion pack' with a whole new graphics engine, too, I ain't complaining. - amercer, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Curb reference..? :) Nice.
- greensauce, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4google cache kinda got it http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:9YebITn_MkAJ: ...
- hackbot205, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3that's a sick card, i have a 8800 GTS too i hope ill be able to run it, but maybe your other stuff sucks like the memory or cpu.
- Dracusis, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3On my E6600 @ 3.4 Ghz, 8800GTX rig, very high at 1920x1200 (no AA) is like 5-15fps.
1280x800 with most things Very High except Shader & Water Detail on High (Still no AA) is around 40fps, so that's what I'll be playing it on. Thankfully my screen (Dell 27" 2707) has a great scaler and inbuilt sharpening settings so non-native resolutions look pretty good. - justanotherdude, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Use the XFPS adapter. look it up on xbox-scene.com
- frobozz0, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4I have a dual core 3.1GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of DDR800 ram, and Radeon 1900xt OC'd. The demo played fine with medium / high settings at 1400 x 1050 resolution, but I don't think I could have gone higher. The game really is awesome. I might even upgrade my system to run it smoother at native resolution 1920 x 1200.
- YojimboJango, on 10/30/2007, -3/+6All those people complaining that they have 8800 gtx and core 2 duos are really just bitching because they can't play at ultra high graphics with 4xAA when their screen rez is set to 19,000x20,000. Seriously, the processor is probably the biggest performance hit with this game, turn your AA down to 2x or off and set the rez to 800x600 and you'll have a smooth ride.
- Bara, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Thanks for the explanation. And yes, the thread has been very informative so far... Really is too bad that the site decided to die, but when it comes back up, I'm sure people will realize how useful that thread is (if they take the time to read it)
- irriadin, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3I highly doubt you'll be able to play this on high. My system is comparable to yours, apart from me having an 8800GTS 640MB overclocked. With it, at 1680x1050, i get between 20-30fps on high. The 8600 GT is considerably weaker than the 8800GTS.
- lacronicus, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3"same terrain, same vehicles" so basically, all the good parts, while fixing all the crappy parts, like the story and dialogue Sounds like what every sequel ought to be, even if this isn't really a sequel.
- Dracusis, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4Yes, because game developers make things with knobs, and there's this series of tubes...
- ryodoan, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3I use an LCD so anything other than its native resolution looks really, really, really horrible, that said though its only 1280x1024 and i would rather turn down AA to off and the settings to medium than drop down to 800x600
- dillibob, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4ya the cod4 demo ran fine for me (thats with a 7600 gt and gig o ram) but i cant even get goddamn crysis to start working
- Agret, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Pretty good usage of them I would say.
- Tempest261, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6750 with 2 gigs of RAM- I'm one of those dorks who tweaks the hell out of his system and updates drivers every other week. I must admit however that I didn't tweak the in-game settings too much. Just set the resolution with no AA and clicked the "automatic settings" button. Otherwise it was too much work for a demo when I have TF2 to play.
- kamikazecow, on 11/08/2007, -3/+5You can force DX10 settings in DX9 rendering via the config files. You dont need vista or dx10 to get the advanced features. Hell, ive heard dx9 even runs better then dx10 at these settings :/
- neko, on 11/08/2007, -0/+2Your card doesn't know ***** about DX9 or DX10 commands. Graphics cards get their instructions from the vendor's driver. A "DirectX10 capable" card just means it has n pixel shaders and certain other hardware capabilities. But it's the driver - yes, software - that does the translation from DX9, DX10, or GL to the card-specific register-pushing instructions.
So if you have an 8800GT or whatever, your hardware is just as powerful regardless of whether you have Vista or not. All DX10 does is give the game developers an easier time coding up certain effects. - ours, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Welcome to the wonderful world of modern LCDs dude.
