I think it's time to upgrade..... - likeyehokwhatev, on 11/10/2007, -2/+71& Here it is on my mac: http://wetcasements.files.wordpress.com/2006/08/ot ...
- Arkavus, on 11/08/2007, -8/+70Some of that is really quite amazing but I don't think it is enough to make me want to install Vista.
You can still move plant leaves by walking into them and cut down trees in the DX9 version so there isn't much more there in the DX10 version. - aldenhg, on 10/30/2007, -8/+39It's too bad that DX10 is turning out to be the best thing about Vista. That must be why MS doesn't want to backport it to XP.
- alibenx, on 11/03/2007, -1/+32I've been waiting for realistic plant leaf movement in games since Pitfall.
- puto, on 10/30/2007, -14/+38There is no way I am installing Vista for that
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/30/2007, -0/+24I really like how they showed it using the roll over images. Dugg.
- holygram, on 10/30/2007, -1/+25You are made of fail.
- OJXs, on 10/30/2007, -0/+24omg look at the water effects and characer facial animations
- Jarasmen, on 11/01/2007, -2/+22"the water actually refracts the light into the rainbow"
What the *****?! I didn't even know reality does that! (now I know) (I mean when you look up from water. I did know of refraction) - Brutus013, on 10/30/2007, -2/+19One thing they forgot to include: Screenshots of sunrays. That is the most impressive difference in my eyes. Let me show you a screen: http://www.imagebam.com/image/3a8c15609402
That is only available in the DX10 version of the game (unless you mod the .cfg, but most people won't). - MBTO, on 10/29/2007, -0/+16That made me laugh way harder than it should have.
- MalDON, on 10/30/2007, -0/+15Until Direct x 11 when tides are simulated based on planetary alignments etc.
- Kazbaeden, on 11/05/2007, -4/+19Yeah, you know, that and actual technical reasons such as GPU task switching and GPU memory management which require specific kernel-level support not found in XP.
- Anpheus, on 10/30/2007, -10/+25Or it might have to do with the fact that DX10 is costly. If you compare any DX9 game between Vista and XP, the performance difference is minimal and sometimes better for Vista than XP in average framerate. Numerous comparisons show this.
Stop trolling. - TyroPyro, on 10/30/2007, -3/+18I would say it's more amazing Crytek technology =)
This is probably the prettiest game out there for XP / DX9 too. - modifiedbears, on 10/30/2007, -7/+22Sad thing is gameplay hasn't evolved much since that.
- Shuk, on 10/30/2007, -13/+28People do we have to turn this into a Vista bashing-fest? What I'm really wondering is the performance difference between XP and Vista with DX10. If you have something constructive to say regarding the performance, than say it, but do we have to sort through tons of "ZOMG Vista is teh sux!" comments?
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -3/+17i have the say, the little note at the end about the noticeable rainbow spectrum under DX10 was the most impressive. Sky's the limit for true world emulation in computing.
- TyroPyro, on 11/01/2007, -0/+13Crysis has better graphics than reality
- dopesick, on 10/30/2007, -3/+16I'm going to agree with the general concensus. There is NO WAY I would upgrade from XP to Vista, for that difference. DX9 is still a capable version, and will do alot of work on its own. Not to mention running a great video card with everything set to do the most work on making it all "look good", helps alot as well. The answer to the performance hit is still, more PC Firepower.
The graphics in the game look good as it is, adding "eye candy" when looking at images in the game that needed more work, certainly doesnt help push the issue of why DX9 is bettter then DX10. The fact still remains with all the processing power we have, the graphics textures still need improvment. (Think of the photo of the rear corner of the hummer - They arent THAT square in real life). - Luigi239, on 10/30/2007, -3/+14As much as I don't like Vista, the difference between DX9 and DX10 is very noticeably in both Crysis and Flight Sim X. If I had a PC with a halfway decent graphics card, that would probably be incentive to upgrade.
- Banelos, on 11/08/2007, -0/+10All the Dx10 goodies can be turned on in XP too by manually changing cfg files to very-high which the ingame UI won't let you choose when run in XP..

Are the Vista requirement for Dx10 effects artificially put in to make us switch to it?!
With this "hack" you also apparently gain a lot of performance compared to running it in Vista. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I am downloading the demo so I can since i am dual booting Vista and XP. - pukiman, on 10/30/2007, -0/+10If by "couple hours" you mean "two days" ago, then yes, I will agree with you.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/29/2007, -3/+13It tells me you need glasses.
- TyroPyro, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10No denying it, this is true. I think it is because the DX10 drivers are entering uncharted territory, while DX9 ones have been very refined. Hopefully the DX10 drivers will mature in the weeks/months ahead
- hadak, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10DX9 gives better performance. Ever try playing Call of Duty 2 with the DX7 only graphics? Ugly, but FAST.
- DarkDx, on 10/30/2007, -0/+9I think he wanted to mean that after doom not much fps games innovate.
- kidcodea, on 10/30/2007, -3/+11u can edit cvars to use the vista settings on xp (even with blur).
i did, and works great - Bkaufman, on 10/30/2007, -3/+10Of course, one of the supposed benefits of DX10 was increased performance....I guess we should pretend they never said that though.
- lacronicus, on 10/28/2007, -0/+7dx10 is vista only, so no direct comparisons.
- dopesick, on 10/30/2007, -2/+9There have been numerous tests of running a single game, on XP and Vista, and seeing a performance hit, in vista.
However is not really vista's fault. Vista is definatly more consuming of system resouces. We all know that free system resources are directly impacting to video game performance. - emomakesmecry, on 10/30/2007, -4/+11ZOMG! Vista is teh sux!!
Actually, I'm not upgrading to Vista for a game. I've got XP tweaked to my liking and IMO dx9 looks just fine. Vista isn't THAT bad. It's just not an upgrade I'm willing to fork out lots of monies for right now. - Vhaeos, on 10/30/2007, -9/+16Maybe I'm missing something.. but I don't see why this is so great. I'll admit that it looks better - but it's not a huge leap or anything. (As far as I can tell.)
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7I think your using the super ultra mega uber low setting.
- dn11, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Cryis demo kicked my computers ass (all medium settings, brought my X2 4400 7900gt to it's knees - when I turned on high I couldn't even navigate the menus and the game was running about 1 frame every 5 seconds - but it looked awesome... (untill I had to reboot to exit the game since I couldn't move my mouse)
- 4eloBek, on 10/30/2007, -7/+14expensive looking game, but not a huge diff. in dx10 vs dx9. It is noticeable, but id rather spend my money on drugs then crysis.
- nullx42, on 10/30/2007, -4/+11sad? bitch please doom is the best game evar
- shortarabguy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+7Well, maybe drugs will make the game better. Think of it as temporary DX12, lol
- Snyder, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6They didn't forget it. At the bottom it says, "God rays" (like this... http://www.imagebam.com/image/3a8c15609402 ) are artificially limited to the DX10 version, but can be added to the DX9 version by modifying config files"
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -1/+7dugg for saying youd rather spend your money on drugs, so blunt lol
- daridave, on 10/29/2007, -4/+10I agree. I feel like shouting "finally something significant", but at the same time, Vista is still too taxing on the FPS, so it's just not worth it IMO. DX10 offers the kind of details that will make you go "oh, nice" when you compare it face-to-face with DX9, but if you have nothing to compare it, you'll never really even realize the difference ...
- Pureeviljester, on 10/30/2007, -3/+9that's what i said about HDTV.... until i owned one!
- ekin09, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5It is effective.. they used it for comparing Bio-Shock DX9 vs DX10 as well.
- spawnfree, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5far-cry is one of the few games i have been compelled to cheat at in order to have some fun, so I'm not convinced this will be good yet.
And how many of you out there would sit through a movie composed of a game's cut-scenes?
Gamers want games not movies, but that alone doesn't drive hardware sales does it? - Roger, on 11/05/2007, -1/+6Umm that was sarcasm guys.
- Banelos, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Sorry first link got truncated when I edited my comment, here is the link to the forum post about the XP to very-high settings "hack":
