I know folks want Mac to be a game platform as well, but the PC gaming industry is having a hard enough time keeping the one platform alive. It's the same with Linux by the way. Face it, if you want games, you go for either a Windows based pc or a console. It's been like that for years, and it's not about to change, no matter how hard anybody wants it to. The Mac platform just doesn't have the userbase to warrant the costs of conversion.

          • KaiUno, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3I don't bash mac users, I just call it like it is. The consoles were all three made especially for games. It's their primary function. Used to be a time that there was less cross-platform gaming, but with EA gobbling up all the little ones, we'll see less and less "exclusives". That's a shame, and that's what, in the end, will kill the 3-console world. People don't want to invest in a 2nd console for the odd chance there'll be one or two games that won't be showing on any of the others.

            Mac wasn't built for games. Apple doesn't want games on it. I think Apple believes that will put a dent in the "serious" and "snobby" appeal of the Mac. They've had oodles of chances to bring gaming to the mac, but time and time again they didn't push through with it. Stopped funding the developers or something to that effect.

            Maybe things will look up once they release their portable gaming device.

Leveling up, customization, world battles, etc. Not that TF2 is bad or anything, I just got tired of playing after 20 something hours in the same maps with only achievements to show for my work.

There's a critical point where you start to see how all the pieces come together, and you're no longer fumbling over which class to use, but deciding which is most appropriate and what angle to come in at. For me, that's when it really became a beautiful game.

      I remember, I tried it by both being the pilot and the "wingman", heh, and I had horrible lag problems even in a perfectly fine server. I'd be on the wing okay, but when the plane moved forward, the wing would jump out from under me even though I hadn't moved, and while I wouldn't drop, it made it far too distracting to be plausible. Was it something best accomplished in LAN play and I just never heard that side of it?

    Here's to EA; they brought themselves around with this one. I never thought I'd say it, but I hope more companies take note of EA's stance on this one. It's not so much that they're making a free game (which in itself is pretty awesome), but that they're not cutting corners for the sake of a bit more money. I'd love to see more developers do this sort of thing, because it shows that they care a bit about the community that supports them. I may have to go out and buy an EA game when this comes out, just to show my support (ironic, isn't it? Show my support for free games by buying one. Still, if this is as good as it looks, it'd be worth the money, even if their other games aren't)

The business model (including the 3 character classes) is a direct rip from a Korean shooter called AVA. EA bought the studio that makes and publishes this game last year. Putting together two winning ideas isn't exactly rocket science.

        Yes it's EA's copy of Team Fortress 2. They'll probably be using this game as a testing ground for casual gamer and the pay for additional content model. Aka, you want to buy an airplane? That'll be two bucks. You want a cool looking character skin, fifty cents.

Looks like they will also be allowing you to pay 10, 20, 50c or some such amount for say...a big funny hat or some sweet shinny boots if you are so inclined. I say, LETS DO IT!

        It wouldn't make any sense for players to get slaughtered by other players just because one guy bought a better gun with real cash. Free players would leave pretty quickly, and the whole thing would turn in to some lame "who can buy the best toys" contest.

        Example - at WeeWar, you can play for free, or buy a Pro account to get better units. If you do that, though, anyone who plays against you also gets to use Pro units in your game, even if they're a free player.

You might not have a non essential accessory on your shoulder or something, but you'll be as deadly as the swearing, ultra skilled 15 year old who plays the game every day for 8 hrs. The game will be making money through adverts on the web page and there will be no no adverts in-game. And, by the way, you'll only be able to play it through a web browser!

  • ilves7, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6could be fun, mostly because BF1942 was their best game of the series by far so they might be able to just take all the ideas from that and put the good ones in this... plus the WWII game was better than the more modern one since the weapons took actual SKILL to use well instead of point and click. Hitting a tank with a dive bomber required some actual timing and skill instead of the BF2 auto missile locks.
