- EBFoxbat, on 02/29/2008, -18/+6...only if my integrated graphics can run it.
- 4d669, on 02/29/2008, -2/+19you best be joking...
- EBFoxbat, on 02/29/2008, -1/+11:( Apparently I didn't convey that. ...should be fun to see where that comment is in the morning.
- aywwts4, on 03/01/2008, -0/+6New punctuation rule: the ~ denotes sarcasm.
" ...only if my integrated graphics can run it~ "
Hopefully this can avoid these kind of terrible communication problems the internet has on a daily basis, that and its not like the ~ was doing anything useful anyways.- dawpa2000, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1More examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm_mark
- tiraid, on 02/29/2008, -1/+11Digg has no concept of sarcasm. If you are sarcastic and don't state it explicitly, prepare to be buried.
/sarcasm- bs0l, on 03/01/2008, -0/+2was it?
- tiraid, on 03/01/2008, -2/+2Did someone just hear a "whoosh"?

- Badman996, on 02/29/2008, -2/+47I can believe I'm saying this, But I think EA is actually going to be doing something right.
- OrangeSoda31, on 03/01/2008, -0/+12Don't forget, they can still screw it up
- Badman996, on 03/01/2008, -0/+7Shh, Don't tell them that.
- artofwar420, on 03/01/2008, -4/+3Looks fun, and even if they did copy the style of Team Fortress 2, so what?! They seem to be doing something totally different, and very fresh. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss WWII.
- crossmr, on 03/01/2008, -2/+6They copied the style of TF2 and the business model of AVA, a korean online shooter built on the unreal 3 engine developed by a studio they bought over there last year.
They really haven't done anything fresh.- artofwar420, on 03/01/2008, -1/+5Fresh in my eyes. In the Unites States. Sure, in South Korea this model of play is rampant, not so here in the States.
- Radan, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4Again, I couldn't care less about who copied who by now. As long as it's actually good, it's fine.
- crossmr, on 03/01/2008, -2/+6They copied the style of TF2 and the business model of AVA, a korean online shooter built on the unreal 3 engine developed by a studio they bought over there last year.
- Agret, on 03/01/2008, -7/+1Not only did they copy the style of TF2 but the entire Battlefield game series concept came from early versions of TF2, they ripped off a game before it was even released.
- CarzorStelatis, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3OK, so tell me where I can find the vehicles and huge outdoor areas in TF2
- chris1012, on 03/01/2008, -5/+1wtf did you say that for, you're a moron... where do you live because now when we find out that the game was screwed up by some retard at EA, we're going to blame it on you. That's such bad luck to say that.
- OrangeSoda31, on 03/01/2008, -0/+12Don't forget, they can still screw it up
- Nitesmoke, on 02/29/2008, -1/+37This game looks fun. Fun > Realism. Free to play! I bet when this comes out, Digg will be deserted for about 3 days.
- salism2, on 02/29/2008, -3/+6u mean the internet?
- GliTCH82, on 03/01/2008, -0/+12There's more to the internet than Digg, buddy.
- spudnic, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4I think that was his point....
i.e. everyone will be playing it, not just people from digg.
They mentionbed not downloading it from bitorrent, I wonder why. It would be the perfect delivery system for it, good luck to them if they think their servers will be able to cope with the number of downloads.
- spudnic, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4I think that was his point....
- vinecrawler, on 03/01/2008, -0/+5this is an online game
- GliTCH82, on 03/01/2008, -0/+12There's more to the internet than Digg, buddy.
- bbardlbradd, on 02/29/2008, -1/+8Hopefully the trolls will stay... I would hate to have all of digg's asshats murdering me.
- BJLStorm, on 03/03/2008, -0/+0Digg will never be deserted.
- salism2, on 02/29/2008, -3/+6u mean the internet?
- STARTSOMETHING, on 02/29/2008, -12/+22It will be released for the PC as a free download in Summer 2008
No os-x support *sigh- Glugory, on 02/29/2008, -18/+53You're ***** delusional if you think that Macs are for video games anyway. Quit your bitching you *****.
- devindotcom, on 02/29/2008, -27/+12christ, what an *****
- KaiUno, on 02/29/2008, -3/+18He could've left "*****" and the entire second sentence, but he's absolutely right. Mac's for working on. I know folks want Mac to be a game platform as well, but the PC gaming industry is having a hard enough time keeping the one platform alive. It's the same with Linux by the way. Face it, if you want games, you go for either a Windows based pc or a console. It's been like that for years, and it's not about to change, no matter how hard anybody wants it to. The Mac platform just doesn't have the userbase to warrant the costs of conversion.
- GliTCH82, on 03/01/2008, -6/+8Too bad all the tools you can use for production on a Mac have Windows counterparts too, so in fact, aside from using OSX, or if you're just a fanboy, there's no reason to own a Mac!
- chris1012, on 03/01/2008, -7/+2you can't play games on mac, they only have one button on the mouse. How the hell are u going to change weapons, zoom in and out, and do all sorts of other things you can do in a PC/Linux mouse?
I'm sure everyone's put this together but I'll say it anyways, remember the "i'm a mac, i'm a pc" commercial where they say pc's are good for number crunching office work?"... yea... sucks pc has all the games on it. bitch. - STARTSOMETHING, on 03/01/2008, -3/+2 KaiUno I agree 150%. Although thats like saying all console games should only be on the xbox 360, to prevent console competition.
- chris1012, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2that's a good idea, they should only be on the xbox 360! We wouldn't have the RROD if it weren't for competitors, microsoft had to rush it out before it was finished just to get a head of the competition.
- STARTSOMETHING, on 03/01/2008, -17/+3Its ok, ill just enjoy my spyware, malware free os. and you enjoy yours!
Seriously, I use to bash mac users. Until i got one and started and shutdown my mac. Before my pc could start up.- chris1012, on 03/01/2008, -2/+4that's such bs, did ur PC have like a 100mhz processor and ur mac have a 1ghz processor? I bet the mac had better hardware than the PC. Probably also did a "here i'll start windows me up and then we'll use os x updated to latest releases and see which one can turn on and off faster".
- KaiUno, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3I don't bash mac users, I just call it like it is. The consoles were all three made especially for games. It's their primary function. Used to be a time that there was less cross-platform gaming, but with EA gobbling up all the little ones, we'll see less and less "exclusives". That's a shame, and that's what, in the end, will kill the 3-console world. People don't want to invest in a 2nd console for the odd chance there'll be one or two games that won't be showing on any of the others.
Mac wasn't built for games. Apple doesn't want games on it. I think Apple believes that will put a dent in the "serious" and "snobby" appeal of the Mac. They've had oodles of chances to bring gaming to the mac, but time and time again they didn't push through with it. Stopped funding the developers or something to that effect.
Maybe things will look up once they release their portable gaming device.
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1Macs can game
just install windows and get a logitech mouse
- devindotcom, on 02/29/2008, -27/+12christ, what an *****
- phinn, on 03/02/2008, -1/+3Macs are junk for gaming, just look on Apple's website they come with the worst freakin video cards I've seen. Its always like 3 year old technology unless you buy some rip off $3,000 power mac that you can get the same performance from a PC for like $900
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1on the laptop side, i like the design
ill probably put windows on pretty quick, but the only reason I would get a mac would be for build quality (maybe, hopefully good) and the look of it in its neat little package
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1on the laptop side, i like the design
- Glugory, on 02/29/2008, -18/+53You're ***** delusional if you think that Macs are for video games anyway. Quit your bitching you *****.
- RockMySocks10, on 03/01/2008, -1/+12supposedly it will run on almost any PC, which is awesome.
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1hey
I think it would run on the EeePC, slow, but it might run, 900Mhz, 1Ghz probably still would work, just not run fast
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1hey
- oxdeltaxo, on 03/01/2008, -2/+4Hopefully it will be available to everyone, I heard it only be available to the us. :(
- timpkmn89, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4EA themselves said it's open to everyone anywhere
- carpeclunes, on 03/01/2008, -7/+3The U.S. is everyone that counts.
- gambl0r, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4Greatest game trailer ever! I didn't know anything about this game before, but now I can't wait. :)

- dannytehmanny, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3I love every battlefield title that comes out but this game looks like it will be the funnest game ever i cannot wait for it to come out
- themastersb, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Pretty good. I'm not gonna lie.
- BJLStorm, on 03/03/2008, -0/+0I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing more videogames become free with ads in them, just like television. As long as they remain in the loading screens only, I see no problem with ads.
- EBFoxbat, on 02/29/2008, -18/+6...only if my integrated graphics can run it.
- Deaconstructed, on 02/29/2008, -9/+60Looks awesome I'll check it out for sure :D
- HeathKidd, on 02/29/2008, -51/+5The world of Warcraft... sorry Gaming!!... is saved.
not to mention most funface trailer ever conceved- Killbot2015, on 02/29/2008, -3/+18What does your comment mean? I don't understand it.
- bbardlbradd, on 02/29/2008, -2/+16Another digger asleep on keyboard...
- MSstar, on 03/01/2008, -1/+6your comment fail

- MaDaBr14, on 02/29/2008, -6/+43Free and looks sweet im all for it.
- lex0nyc, on 03/01/2008, -9/+4I hope the game runs better than that video clip. I think I have a buffer headache.
- OrangeSoda31, on 03/01/2008, -1/+5I hope the ads aren't in game, like 2142, that would drive me away from it.
- izzyb412, on 03/01/2008, -1/+4They aren't in game.
- lex0nyc, on 03/02/2008, -1/+2How is this thing getting funded?
- izzyb412, on 03/01/2008, -1/+4They aren't in game.
- condormcs, on 03/01/2008, -5/+3I wouldn't mind playing this game, it's free, it's sorta new, but I don't like that they're ruining the Battlefield title
- izzyb412, on 03/01/2008, -0/+8They are still making more realistic Battlefields. Heroes is kinda separate from those titles.
- K111, on 02/29/2008, -88/+13Looks a lot better than TF2
- itzmattu, on 02/29/2008, -5/+72Have you even played TF2, or are you just a complete moron anyways?
- LaSepultura, on 02/29/2008, -1/+77Spy's sapping my comment.
- domokunt, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12I'll hit it which a wrench..
- CedEx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9"hit it *which* a wrench"???
I'll hit you with a wrench.- spudnic, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2Well I'll shot you on on your face which a gun.
- chingy1788, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1@spudnic
Epic Comment Failure - pipelinepunk1, on 03/04/2008, -0/+0ha ha ha, straight up guys...
- CedEx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9"hit it *which* a wrench"???
- pigducksheep, on 03/01/2008, -3/+4Comment down!
- domokunt, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12I'll hit it which a wrench..
- coheedcollapse, on 02/29/2008, -9/+12I'm sorry, but I agree. If this game delivers as much as it says it will, it'll be more interesting (to me personally) than TF2. Leveling up, customization, world battles, etc. Not that TF2 is bad or anything, I just got tired of playing after 20 something hours in the same maps with only achievements to show for my work.
- Matt2k, on 02/29/2008, -3/+4Its too bad that you weren't able to get into it. The Valve maps are really nicely designed, and it's fun trying to find the best positions and routes. There's a critical point where you start to see how all the pieces come together, and you're no longer fumbling over which class to use, but deciding which is most appropriate and what angle to come in at. For me, that's when it really became a beautiful game.
- GliTCH82, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3Basically you just described almost every FPS out there with classes in some form.
- YojimboJango, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1Yes, but Team Fortress has done it better than any game I've ever played. Sure it's nothing really ground breaking, but it is, as yatzee put it, polished to a gleaming shine.
- Matt2k, on 02/29/2008, -7/+3I don't know why you're getting moderated down for stating an opinion. Kids, people have them. Sometimes they differ from yours
This site is stupid and I don't know why I continue to cast my pearls before swine. See, there's one right now.- Stupidumb, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3You don't know why?
People digg/bury based on their opinion.
That's why.
Give me back my pearls. - eyefork, on 03/01/2008, -0/+5If you come to Digg just for these fun little comment conversations then I feel sorry for you, and you're wasting our pearls, not yours. First, you assume that we're all "kids". Then you make a wonderful hypocritical statement about how us "kids" can't accept other's opinions, which puts you in the position of not accepting our opinions about what coheedcollape said. So honestly, ***** you and your pearls.
- Stupidumb, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3You don't know why?
- IndigoMoss, on 02/29/2008, -5/+1Umm why were you playing only the same maps? There's 100s of custom ones out there that kick much more ass than the default ones. Well I guess if you were playing it on a console, then it's understandable.
- CedEx, on 02/29/2008, -1/+0The best part about this game is the level matching of users. I hate playing with kids. They scream at you, complain you suck, and when you kill them just once they accuse you of haxs, and say "Imma gonna demo you and get an admin!"
- Matt2k, on 02/29/2008, -3/+4Its too bad that you weren't able to get into it. The Valve maps are really nicely designed, and it's fun trying to find the best positions and routes. For me, that's when it really became a beautiful game.
- eliburford, on 03/01/2008, -1/+9You take that back.
- SlappyX, on 03/02/2008, -5/+0Srry but i have to agree TF2 is bland at best the environments are really what kills it for me and that all the classes except the scout are all to slooooow.
- pierski, on 02/29/2008, -36/+21Only EA could take one of the bloodiest wars in modern history and make it fun for the whole family. Walt Disney would be proud.
Still looks pretty damn fun, though.- CedEx, on 02/29/2008, -4/+13True, but RockStar has got the monopoly on taking criminal thuggery and making it fun for everyone.
- chroko, on 03/01/2008, -4/+4The difference is that Grand Theft Auto plays the subject matter straight - and takes itself seriously. Yes, you can do bad things in the game - but your actions are never glorified. SWAT teams eventually hunt you down.
Meanwhile, EA is pretending that it's a laugh to be a German SS officer! Wheee!!!- cheeseron, on 03/01/2008, -1/+6takes itself seriously? have we been playing the same game?
- chroko, on 03/01/2008, -4/+4The difference is that Grand Theft Auto plays the subject matter straight - and takes itself seriously. Yes, you can do bad things in the game - but your actions are never glorified. SWAT teams eventually hunt you down.

- tapo, on 02/29/2008, -7/+193Not only did they make it cartoony, but it looks like they stripped the gameplay down to what makes Battlefield fun.
Yay! I actually want to play a battlefield game again!- civilizedevil, on 02/29/2008, -0/+15I agree, the gameplay looks insanely fun. But nobody is worried or bothered by the third person camera view?
- ninjapretzel, on 03/01/2008, -15/+1Thrid person cameras > 1st person. Ever play GunZ? Ability to see perifs. with a 3rd person view is alot better then the locked tunnel vision of most FPS these days.
- Cerebral, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3It's too early to say but it may be too soon to assume this wasn't just in 3rd person for the trailer. Maybe you can switch between 1st and 3rd like Serious Sam and some other games.
- WatchDogX, on 03/01/2008, -4/+2You would be an iddiot to use first person with the option of third person. I used to play socom us navy seals on ps2, that was third person, the advantage of being able to see around corners without showing your character is pretty lame. I hope its compulsory first person.
- carpeclunes, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3They are aware that 3rd person is a turnoff for some people, and if enough of the community complains, they said there is a possibility they will change it.
- ibis, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3That's what had me worried. I'd much prefer 1st person, but hell, I'll give it a shot. Definitely of the opinion that games keep getting more and more crap added to them that doesn't necessarily add to the fun, but just makes them needlessly complicated.
- Mier, on 03/01/2008, -0/+6I liked Battlefield 1942 and 2...I never got 2142 and I'll probably get 3 if they stick to a modern theme.
- Freekkie, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3I think generally Battlefield games were good, but BF2 is still my favourite thus far. This does look like a very strong art direction though - even though I've heard a Battlefield 3 is in the works.
- civilizedevil, on 02/29/2008, -0/+15I agree, the gameplay looks insanely fun. But nobody is worried or bothered by the third person camera view?

- AntidoteSqrd, on 02/29/2008, -2/+44I hate you.
- franklymister, on 02/29/2008, -3/+20You know in mah day sonny we used to go outside and play football, or throw tomatoes at cars, not sit indoors and wiggle our joysticks all the damn day. Git off mah lawn!
- jeo77, on 03/01/2008, -1/+7And parents are supposed to be, well, parents, but we're all too busy enjoying games =P
- isunktheship, on 02/29/2008, -2/+8Mmm joystick wiggling.
- passedoutghost, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3And that's why you're being dugg down.
- Wartz, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3welcome to my block list, you're the type that ruins FPSs
- falafelkiosken, on 03/01/2008, -2/+6that's why I hate online fps, I hope that will be true, playing a game online is fun, but not when it's crowded with people who never does anything else
- MicronXD, on 03/02/2008, -1/+0I'm with ya brother :P

- AzureRise, on 03/01/2008, -5/+9I'm so uploading it to the pirate bay when it comes out.
- Cerebral, on 03/01/2008, -2/+9Sadly it'll probably download faster from the torrents.
- MicronXD, on 03/02/2008, -2/+0I'll so be seeding :D
- passedoutghost, on 03/01/2008, -3/+4No love for mininova?
- joegibes, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3Speaking of which, since I lost my BF2 manual (with the serial #), there's no way for me to play (I'm on a different computer now). EA just says I'll have to buy the game again :(
- vincimus, on 02/29/2008, -3/+116and for the
- Zweebex, on 02/29/2008, -5/+285Looks like BF1942 meets TF2 cartoonyness, and uses a xbox live type system for matchmaking. Realism is overrated and overdone, I'm excited.
- canthraxp, on 02/29/2008, -1/+62Coming from EA I expected a "select old game, Ctrl+C, open folder, Ctrl+V, F2, attach current year to name" kind of game.
This caught me off guard. Kudos to EA, looks fun.- bbardlbradd, on 02/29/2008, -8/+2/sarcasm
No, but really, this game looks fun. - eyefork, on 03/01/2008, -0/+10So that's what F2 does...
- Cerebral, on 03/01/2008, -0/+7F2 = rename when you have a file selected.
- bbardlbradd, on 02/29/2008, -8/+2/sarcasm
- BenKenobi88, on 02/29/2008, -2/+10It's more like Army Men cartoonyness I'd say, let's stop making that stupid comparison.
- canthraxp, on 02/29/2008, -1/+62Coming from EA I expected a "select old game, Ctrl+C, open folder, Ctrl+V, F2, attach current year to name" kind of game.
- mhassambay, on 02/29/2008, -3/+3Looks really nice!
- MicronXD, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0indeed! this looks great! I can't wait!
- LOLgic, on 02/29/2008, -2/+214Dugg for wing riding. Who didn't do that in BF1942?
- Haon, on 02/29/2008, -0/+17I loved doing that. Plus wing raping was fun too. Getting all the plane campers on wake in one run was always funny as hell.
- MasterGrief, on 02/29/2008, -0/+11This is a serious question--Was wing riding possible (fairly easily) on BF42 during online play?
I remember, I tried it by both being the pilot and the "wingman", heh, and I had horrible lag problems even in a perfectly fine server. I'd be on the wing okay, but when the plane moved forward, the wing would jump out from under me even though I hadn't moved, and while I wouldn't drop, it made it far too distracting to be plausible. Was it something best accomplished in LAN play and I just never heard that side of it?- Wandel, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Unless the pilot was a dick, yeah, sure it was.
- salinemist, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7I bet they kept the same tank gun physics from BF1942, those were cartoony as hell.
- Spyder2k, on 03/01/2008, -15/+7I wing rode your mom O_O
- brett717, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1OMG I miss wing riding. I was good at that :(
cept DC wing riding.. hard to stay on the jets
- lacronicus, on 02/29/2008, -5/+13Wasn't the other one up here before this? Then again, it's awesome enough for both to reach the front page.
Here's to EA; they brought themselves around with this one. I never thought I'd say it, but I hope more companies take note of EA's stance on this one. It's not so much that they're making a free game (which in itself is pretty awesome), but that they're not cutting corners for the sake of a bit more money. I'd love to see more developers do this sort of thing, because it shows that they care a bit about the community that supports them. I may have to go out and buy an EA game when this comes out, just to show my support (ironic, isn't it? Show my support for free games by buying one. Still, if this is as good as it looks, it'd be worth the money, even if their other games aren't)- Puffles, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Instead of buying a different game from EA, why not buy some of the cash shop stuff in this game? (It's free, but you have to pay for some of the in-game items if you want them.)
- DemDude, on 03/01/2008, -2/+4And that's why it will suck...
- ninjapretzel, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3Not necessaraly. If they keep it balanced, then it shouldn't matter.
- MrLunar, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2Why? Because at some point you may have to pay for something you use/want? Bah, bloody capitalism.
- DemDude, on 03/01/2008, -2/+4And that's why it will suck...
- altinnovation, on 03/01/2008, -0/+2I think they are experimenting with the use of in-game advertising in a free game, to see if the advertising money can sustain expenses.
- Puffles, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Instead of buying a different game from EA, why not buy some of the cash shop stuff in this game? (It's free, but you have to pay for some of the in-game items if you want them.)

- Nuhaus, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4I dunno. "Poopsocker". I imagine some idiot putting poop into socks. Yep, that works as an insult

They should make the trailer/preview awards.
I thought the WWII vets would get pissed off at the intro.
- DarkGrim, on 02/29/2008, -4/+121EA did something right for once
- Planets, on 02/29/2008, -2/+33You mean Dice. =)
It isn't possible for EA to do something right. They just take the credit.- 1randomguy08, on 02/29/2008, -2/+5Bf2 = awesome game, servers still up. EA FTW yeah bury me
- wufoo, on 02/29/2008, -2/+3They probably have some tracking software in there or something... I just don't trust them.
- franklymister, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1It is a browser game. What are you expecting, a cookie?
- edilclyde, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3its not a browser game. it says download for free. i dont think flash can support that much detail on a game.

- edilclyde, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3its not a browser game. it says download for free. i dont think flash can support that much detail on a game.
- franklymister, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1It is a browser game. What are you expecting, a cookie?
- crossmr, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2What did they do? They took a graphical style from a popular game, a business model for another popular game. The business model (including the 3 character classes) is a direct rip from a Korean shooter called AVA. EA bought the studio that makes and publishes this game last year. Putting together two winning ideas isn't exactly rocket science.
- lacronicus, on 03/01/2008, -2/+3Do you seriously think they started working on this *after* TF2 was announced?
- moush, on 03/01/2008, -2/+3I'm pretty sure TF2 didn't invent cel-shading or cartoon graphics. They gimped the play from TFC anyways, so whoop-de-doo.
- Nextrix, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1...so far.
- dysonlu, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1...until they introduce a customization scheme whereby if you aren't willing to pay for upgrades for your character, you are in a significant disadvantage. Assuming this game offers paid customization, I hope it will not be of too much significance in the game itself.
- Planets, on 02/29/2008, -2/+33You mean Dice. =)
- hokeywebb22, on 02/29/2008, -9/+2Looks to be a lot of fun and the metagmae of territory control reminds me of planetside. I just hope that this doesn't spawn 100 more cartoony shooters.
- dsmx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2How could any more shooters be spawned?
- YojimboJango, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1I like cartoony shooters. TF2 is a blast.
- Ihmhi, on 02/29/2008, -16/+5TF2 much?
But surprisingly, it looks fun. Let's wait and see how they will actually make money off of this. I predict either limited account (ala Hellgate London) or purchasing of vanity items (ala... every RPG made in South Korea or Japan).- screwzluse, on 02/29/2008, -6/+14So all games with cell shading is copying TF2? Damn, XIII was copying TF2 before it was cool apparently.
- arw371, on 02/29/2008, -2/+13Thats not cellshaded, sorry.

- ers35, on 02/29/2008, -1/+7Team Fortress 2 is not cell shaded.
- endrid, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1And of course they are trying to cover the TF2 success... If you see something successful, you naturally want to emulate it.
- YojimboJango, on 03/01/2008, -1/+11. TF2 wasn't cell shaded.
2. They're using the same phong shading system that TF2 uses.
3. They're using the same J. C. Leyendecker themed characters. (aka big chins, burly cartoony proportions)
Yes it's EA's copy of Team Fortress 2. They'll probably be using this game as a testing ground for casual gamer and the pay for additional content model. Aka, you want to buy an airplane? That'll be two bucks. You want a cool looking character skin, fifty cents.
- arw371, on 02/29/2008, -2/+13Thats not cellshaded, sorry.
- lacronicus, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9They've already confirmed that it will be vanity items only, no gameplay enhancing items can be bought. They've really thought this through, and have definitely learned from a lot of mistakes. Good on them, lets hope this continues.
- LLamaStar, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1they all copied pixar imo.
- cthellis, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1No, not much.

- motiontomove, on 02/29/2008, -3/+80What makes this so great is the fact that they focus on the gameplay rather than the graphics and realism.
Definitely a breath of fresh air in a world full of countless COD and Halo rip-offs.- thecrazyd, on 02/29/2008, -4/+5I dunno, gameplay didn't look that special to me. Hard to tell until you play it, but that looked slow, stiff, and boring. As a TF2 fan, I was more excited by the graphics.
- 1randomguy08, on 02/29/2008, -13/+1It's going to be crap trust me.
- moush, on 03/01/2008, -3/+1Too bad it's probably going to lag hardcore since it's free.
- Philbert, on 03/01/2008, -0/+2Depends on how it's set up server wise, The scaled down graphics should also help with lag.
- diggrim, on 03/03/2008, -1/+2why would anyone want to rip off Halo?
- dysonlu, on 03/05/2008, -0/+2"Halo rip-offs"?! You mean Halo is a rip-off of some other games before it, right?
- DouchesWild, on 02/29/2008, -6/+10So, what's the catch here, this all seems too good to be true... Are they just using their profits from people buying a new Madden every year to fund this? I can't imagine EA has turned into a gaming charity all of the sudden.
- teamr, on 02/29/2008, -4/+13Catch: It's going to be supported entirely by ingame advertising.
- DpNo1, on 02/29/2008, -0/+12apparently the adverts will not be seen ingame, only in the menus.
- lacronicus, on 02/29/2008, -0/+26It's going to have advertising, but it's somewhat misleading to say it will be in-game. The ads will come during loading or something like that, with the actual gameplay being completely ad-free.
- coheedcollapse, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9Not a bad deal at all. If I had the ability to play every computer game like that I'd totally do it instead of picking up the torrent or purchasing it.
- KMartSheriff, on 02/29/2008, -2/+6Why can't all games be like this? I'd be playing so much more if this were the case. Torrenting games would be a thing of the past.
- dsmx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6Which is a good thing can you imagine in this ww2 setting seeing an advert for intel processors?
- HueytheFreeman, on 03/01/2008, -3/+2Bleh. I really don't enjoy in-game advertisements, they've left a really bad taste in my mouth, especially when they're not well done. I'd rather pay for the game and then not have advertisements. Unfortunately, that's not the way things are going...
- web2pointYo, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1Its the same way you "pay" to watch...American Idol(?). Or Football on NBC or anything else on network tv. Advertising. If they can get enough eyeballs on the screen, by making a fun game, they can sell advertising dollars to (coke, nike, etc.) We get a great (hopefully) game, advertisers get there product in front of the right audience, and ea gets bucks from the advertisers. Looks like they will also be allowing you to pay 10, 20, 50c or some such amount for say...a big funny hat or some sweet shinny boots if you are so inclined. I say, LETS DO IT!
- mrelusive, on 02/29/2008, -1/+25It's an experiment to see if they can still make a lucrative game with their new Play 4 Free (or Free 2 Play, whatever) model.
If this game bombs, don't expect anymore like it.- peregrine, on 02/29/2008, -0/+8Well then we as digg better make sure it doesnt bomb?
- slaystench, on 02/29/2008, -9/+2Actually, they are going to charge for certain weapon upgrades and such. So, if you pay for those upgrades you will be at an advantage.
- franklymister, on 02/29/2008, -2/+6Wrong.
"micropayments may be made for additional items to customize the appearance of players' avatars without any gaming advantage"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_Heroes
It wouldn't make any sense for players to get slaughtered by other players just because one guy bought a better gun with real cash. Free players would leave pretty quickly, and the whole thing would turn in to some lame "who can buy the best toys" contest.
Example - at WeeWar, you can play for free, or buy a Pro account to get better units. If you do that, though, anyone who plays against you also gets to use Pro units in your game, even if they're a free player.- slaystench, on 03/01/2008, -3/+1you linked wikipedia, I lol'd.
- franklymister, on 02/29/2008, -2/+6Wrong.

• Players cannot purchase weapons or vehicles or perks or anything that gives them a direct advantage over others. They can, however, purchase faster rates of XP
• XP works in a manner similar to Call of Duty 4 and unlocks "perks" such as the abilities to throw gernades back and the temporary ability to see through walls
• Most of the ads will be on the game website and the social networking-esque player profile pages where players can see their ranking and achievements and such- crossmr, on 03/01/2008, -2/+3For the curious EA didn't come up with this business model themselves. They borrowed it from a korean game studio they bought last year which uses this model very very effectively to support a host of online games at pmang.com (you need a korean social security number to sign up for the site though *cough*google*cough*)
- velinos, on 03/04/2008, -0/+0The same thing is being done for Quakelive. Think Id is doing it. Free to play download all browser based. Quake live from what i understand is gonna be pretty much like Q3. They save money on not having to make hard copies of the game. And it doesn't get pirated. So If they can turn a profit from in game advertising this could be a new big thing.
- teamr, on 02/29/2008, -4/+13Catch: It's going to be supported entirely by ingame advertising.

- ChromaVita, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2And if you spend most of the winter homeless, why do you have a computer that you can play games on, and a reasonable internet connection? Things like video games and computers are called luxuries.
- Combat, on 03/02/2008, -2/+1had my computer in my girlfriend's dorm. My roommate already had internet when i moved in. We split the bill now. I still have lots of backed up bills that i'm paying on, so i can't afford such "luxuries" as games. Bittorrent is free. I'm amazed how many diggers are stuck up.

- Brighto, on 02/29/2008, -10/+4There will be no limitations regarding game play if you don't pay anything. You might not have a non essential accessory on your shoulder or something, but you'll be as deadly as the swearing, ultra skilled 15 year old who plays the game every day for 8 hrs. The game will be making money through adverts on the web page and there will be no no adverts in-game. And, by the way, you'll only be able to play it through a web browser!
If you understand Norwegian, you can read a nice article about the game here: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2008/02/29/528433.h ...- Frazzlet, on 02/29/2008, -2/+8It's a download.

- lcmatt, on 03/01/2008, -1/+3So you work for EA then? Play now button will most likely link to the downloads page.
- Atomic1fire, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1you might need to click play now and that would launch the program
like the games on ijji - YojimboJango, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1It'll probably be like puzzle pirates. It's written in java and the first time you click on the play now button it'll download the game to your computer. After that it'll pop up a game in a separate window every time you play.
- Brighto, on 03/01/2008, -0/+0From the article: "«Battlefield: Heroes» vil altså være helt gratis, og den eneste muligheten for å spille det er via nettleseren din."
In English: "Battlefield: Heroes" will be completely free, and the only way to play it is through your web browser.
- quaunaut, on 02/29/2008, -6/+1No its not. Thats why you hit the "Play Now" button on the website- that launches the game.

- Chaoticfist, on 02/29/2008, -15/+29Only EA could take a game like BF 1942 and dumb it down like crazy, and still make money.
I want a new BF 1942 game. With upgraded graphics, battles on the Atlantic ocean with large fleets, massive 120 + battles in Europe. Seriously i would pay top dollar for a game like that. Include Massive air battles for a bonuses (battle of Briton anyone) (pearl Harbor)- GeekyGerge, on 02/29/2008, -9/+1There's another new battlefield coming soon too, and kinda be like the old ones. It's called Battlefield: Bad Company.
http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/battlefieldb ...- thedogfatherx, on 02/29/2008, -8/+0Yes. This game WILL KICK ASS.
- Wartz, on 03/01/2008, -0/+3actually it wont.
- thedogfatherx, on 02/29/2008, -8/+0Yes. This game WILL KICK ASS.
- MasterGrief, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4Jeebus, yes, I completely agree with you, Chaoticfist. World War 2 combat is my favorite kind, and the way it was presented in Battlefield 1942 was just so epic--A remake with updated graphics and even larger maps would be fantastic.
- IndigoMoss, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2Well they're still making BF3, which won't be a WWII based game, but it sounds like it's going to kick ass. It'd suck if they'd stop production on it for this game and Bad Company. I want the next real Battlefield game.
- DarQraven, on 03/01/2008, -0/+5Yeah, and for PC please. None of this console-only BS we've been seeing lately.
- Plato, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1Well there sorta is that, it's called WorldWarIIOnline (google it) MMORPG type of game... but it's not as simple as I'd like... takes alot to eventually become a good pilot (etc).
But a decent game if you're not a graphics whore at least. - Charlesbian, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1you want a WW2 updated battlefield style game? www.fhmod.org
its a mod for BF2, and its probably the best WW2 shooter ive ever played. if you have played FH1 for bf1942 then u know what im talking about.

- quaunaut, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4You realize EA put out some really awesome ***** last year right?
- Railz, on 03/01/2008, -0/+4Obviously you didn't get the memo about bashing mainstream, good things in life.
- Wartz, on 03/01/2008, -0/+2Command and Conquer? Unplayable online due to unfixed exploits. Fun singleplayer but who buys a C&C game for the singleplayer?
Crysis? Crytek did all the work, EA just helped distribute the game to retailers.
Orange Box? They only ported the PS3 version, and completely ***** it up in the process. Valve developed the entire thing and distributed the PC/ported the 360 versions of the game.
Rock Band? see Crysis
Skate? I'll give you that one, decent game.
Need for Speed/FIFA/Madden etc? usual rehash with a new number.
- ControlcChris, on 02/29/2008, -11/+4Dugg for EA mentioning "The Pirate Bay".

Now bring on BF3.- DeFex, on 03/01/2008, -2/+2they need to update bf1942, same fun, newer engine. if its possible. seems all the "improvements" in 2 and 2042, actually take the fun away.
- transform100, on 03/01/2008, -2/+1True, BF2 and 2142 seem like a step back, though I did enjoy Battlefield 2 MC a lot.
- Philbert, on 03/01/2008, -1/+1If you ask me, 1942's engine was fine, gameplay was great, All I could ask for is improved graphics and maybe a few new maps. I hate all this co-op crap.

- nighthawk419, on 02/29/2008, -9/+1did you guys see that man sitting on thew wing of the plane?
- Jalh, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1RLY ?
- buddypriefert, on 02/29/2008, -16/+1So, aren't you all the same group of teenagers/early 20's that who bash/hate America, side with the Muslims/al Queada or anyone else anti-American in other threads?
- flanagonzales, on 02/29/2008, -3/+0It's cool; I can't distinguish between Muslims and al Qaeda either.
- IndigoMoss, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7Here we observe a partisan hack trying to bring politics into something totally irrelevant to the subject of politics.
- ilves7, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6could be fun, mostly because BF1942 was their best game of the series by far so they might be able to just take all the ideas from that and put the good ones in this... plus the WWII game was better than the more modern one since the weapons took actual SKILL to use well instead of point and click. Hitting a tank with a dive bomber required some actual timing and skill instead of the BF2 auto missile locks.
- IndigoMoss, on 02/29/2008, -2/+1But on the other hand, modern day missile locks are a lot easier than they were in WWII. I agree that the WWII games BF1942 and COD1 and COD2 took a lot more skill than their modern day spray and pray counterparts.
- Railz, on 03/01/2008, -1/+2If they upgrade BF1942; ie graphics, vehicle, and map over-haul, they might just put the end to the WW2 legacy of shooters. THE GAME TO END THEM ALL.
- DeFex, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1im looking forward to some expack propelled jeeps :D

- ObeseSnake, on 02/29/2008, -7/+1And it's down. Mirror?
- IglooBurner, on 02/29/2008, -4/+0try you tube
- AndrewDB, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3It's not down, it's just going slow because of all the traffic hitting the server. :)
- cheeseron, on 02/29/2008, -2/+3This is the way to make a game and market it. It's free, it's fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. This is going to be a huge success.
- hinmanj, on 02/29/2008, -3/+3To me it seems what Runescape is to MMORPGs, Battlefield Heroes will be to FPSs... I don't know why, but that's just the vibe I got.
- Vindicoth, on 02/29/2008, -1/+7Uh.. what exactly did Runescape do? Put ***** graphics in a browser? Introduce a genre to ***** ton of kids? Make a mediocre game?
- 0two, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7I'm assuming you mean that in a bad way, because Runescape was an abomination of a game that only appealed to clueless 11 year olds who either didn't know or couldn't afford a real MMO. I played it for a grand total of about 1-2 minutes before leaving in disgust.
- Laxaloot, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1Yeah I saw my little brother play it, and I've come to the conclusion that it is simply a more shallow version of ultima online with worse graphics
- cli006, on 02/29/2008, -8/+3Team Fortress 2 w/ vehicles FTW!
- thecrazyd, on 02/29/2008, -1/+6The only real similarity to TF2 seem to be the graphics style, and the fact that you shoot people.
- Maxmojo015, on 02/29/2008, -6/+1SICK!^9.72
- ivandir, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1WOW i might have to try this out..
It looks like toontown but for grownups. - ilikesboobs, on 02/29/2008, -13/+5Why is this game free? I'm sorry but I don't trust EA. What's the catch here?
- 1randomguy08, on 02/29/2008, -6/+1lol you're a noob, free games have always existed they just find another way to make money. A good example would be gunbound a game with hundreds of thousands if not millions of players who play for free. The company only makes money by selling avatars in game.
- Lobsangrs, on 02/29/2008, -5/+4ads.. they're going to use in-game ads.. so you could tell your team "hit the german sniper! its behind that FANTA billboard!"
- kneelB4zod, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6Did you know the Nazis invented Fanta
- dsmx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1You obviously didn't watch the trailer because it says in it that the adverts are not in game there everywhere else but not while your playing a round.
- CarzorStelatis, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1The ads will be on the official website, and on the client when you are browsing for servers etc. (much the same as Gamespy Arcade does). They've made a fortune doing this with FIFA and the like in Korea.
- Snakedal337, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12The guys behind this game seem to have an awesome sense of humor. Looks good :)
- elitexero, on 02/29/2008, -15/+3Good christ it looks like it could be a Wii game with all that 'goofy' comentary.
- krd1979, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Hmm... all the Wii games I own are quite fun, so I'll probably be pretty pleased with this then.
- STKD, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Charming and fun? Yes. Yes it does then.
- SonOfDisaster, on 02/29/2008, -1/+58War looks so fun and happy! :D
- transform100, on 03/01/2008, -0/+6That's what they want you to think, next minute your missing a head =(
- AltairLaAhad, on 03/01/2008, -2/+3Yay tf2!! oh...wait this wasn't a tf2 trailer?
- Philbert, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1But I like my head! I need it for thinking and seeing and stuff.
