- seventoes, on 09/19/2009, -5/+62"single most pre-ordered MMO this year"... How many MMOs have been released this year? That's not really an impressive stat. Game is looking good so far though!
- the2989, on 09/19/2009, -6/+63Is there EVER going to be a Pokemon MMORPG? I am tired of waiting.
- Tiak, on 09/19/2009, -18/+61Am I the only one to which WoW with Lineage characters that fly doesn't appeal?...
- fxu1989, on 09/19/2009, -14/+52I'm sorry, what game?
- inactive, on 09/19/2009, -3/+34I play Eve Online. I am a space accountant.
- inactive, on 09/18/2009, -4/+27As long as it ships on time it's all good. Game on!
- CanadaMan87, on 09/19/2009, -0/+21He's right about the homoerotic part, the male characters look very feminine. If you do the "cheer" emote with a male character, you know what he does? He takes out freakin' pom poms and dances around, I'm not even kidding here.
- kayfouroh, on 09/19/2009, -0/+20Spreadsheets in Spaaaaaaaaaaace
/Caldari miner - kuroikenshi, on 09/19/2009, -5/+22You know Age of Conan and a whole bunch of other games had some pretty good pre-order's and good initial sales. But after the initial honeymoon was over, they didn't do as well afterwords. Here is to hoping that I am wrong!
- CanadaMan87, on 09/19/2009, -3/+20I tried the open beta, it's a pretty ordinary korean-style MMO. It borrows a few things from WoW, but maintains the traditional grindfest that is a main characteristic of eastern MMOs.
Another thing - it's the most pre-ordered MMO this year? Is that really an achievement? I don't think it had much competition, aside from maybe Champions Online, which is a bit of a flop. - inactive, on 09/19/2009, -0/+16Aion's stability on my mid-range system with max'd settings really speaks to the quality of the cryengine. I am very impressed with Cry for MMOs, i hope to see it used more in the future.
- hinmanj, on 09/19/2009, -1/+17yahhhh CryEngine!
- AndrewDB, on 09/19/2009, -5/+20It's WoW + Lineage + Guild Wars + Wings, and it's damn boring.
- stupidverizon, on 09/19/2009, -3/+17Agreed. I looked into the game myself, couldn't find anything appealing. Can some players let us in on whats good about it?
- ixicoolaixi, on 09/19/2009, -5/+18Ah. Honestly, I don't care if it takes things from other games or not. It's simply a fun game to play. That's why I like it. Cause it's fun. Not cause it plays like this, or looks like that. This game has great community support and the folks at NCSoft have an amazing community team that actually talks to its customers and takes feedback annnnd applies said feedback.
That said, this game will go far and I think people will respect it a bit more when it's still going strong a year or two from now. Catch y'all in the sky. Koo-Koooo - TheBifman, on 09/19/2009, -30/+42YO AION, I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU. I'M GONNA LET YOU FINISH, BUT WOW IS ONE OF THE BEST MMORPGS OF ALL TIME!
- MakanGuru, on 09/19/2009, -1/+13um because this is the only half decent MMO to come out this year?
- Locupleto, on 09/19/2009, -1/+13After Tabula Rasa, AoC and WAR, I'll never pre-order an MMO again. Never.
- danxmason, on 09/19/2009, -1/+13"Surprises precisely no one at all"... it surprises me , I've never heard of it.
- CyclonusRIP, on 09/19/2009, -2/+12So people have fun playing WoW for hours on end and that makes it a ***** game? Excellent point.
- shaftscaliber, on 09/19/2009, -3/+13Eh, the only game that's going to be a "WoW killer" is the next MMO that Blizzard comes out with. Their quality of game is just way the hell better than pretty much every other computer company out there.
Guess you can say that it's just my opinion but their fan base and the sales prove it :) - AndrewDB, on 09/19/2009, -12/+21I played in the closed and open beta, and yeah, it was decent, but after about level 15 it devolves into absolutely nothing but PVP and it's boring as sin.
If you do any PVE it's excessively grindy and boring.
Bury me if you wish and defend your MMO of choice... but you'll see. - nerdherder, on 09/19/2009, -1/+10Every time I ask somebody what they like about it so much they reply with "YOU CAN ***** FLY MAN!", and that just isn't enough for me :/
- vagrantwade, on 09/19/2009, -1/+10I got my character ready today in the pre-selection. Can't wait to get crackin on Sunday.
- Shedding, on 09/19/2009, -1/+10***** this.. I am never playing another MMORPG EVER. Lineage 2 took about 4 years of my life and all I got is a level 70 bishop to show for.
- Calder0n, on 09/19/2009, -1/+9I was extremely skeptical of Aion at first but I gave it a chance because a friend pre-ordered it and let me try out the betas. It wasn't untill I watched the korean youtube videos of the endgame pvp and dungeons that I finally realized just how incredibly unique this game really is.
The game is already a year old from my understanding and has 4 million subs in Asia. I must assume there has to be something to it then. I can only see this game becoming a success as long as they give simultaneous updates so we don't fall behind.
also hurray for gameguard getting disabled, here's hoping that its permanent. - Redmo0n, on 09/19/2009, -1/+9Reminds me of Warhammers release. Sweet memories. Let's hope it doesn't flop.
- vagrantwade, on 09/19/2009, -0/+8No it doesn't, and nothing in Aion looks anything like wow.
- Locupleto, on 09/19/2009, -1/+9That right there is enough for me to take a pass.
- solmakou, on 09/19/2009, -2/+10Played in a few of the betas, game looks great to me. A lot of the trouble people were having with click to move, right mouse click turn, etc. were fixed in a few patches aimed at westernizing the game.
In other news, ***** aion from making me a twatter because that's how they communicate with their player base. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/19/2009, -4/+11I've been burned by NCSoft every time now. Not going to give them another chance ever again. Nope. Sorry.
- Railz, on 09/19/2009, -2/+9As an avid wow player for years, mainly focused on the pvp, I must say, I could not find another mmo with a combat system quite like WoW. Nothing was as fluid, hectic, yet so basic and simple that it put the user in full control. Aion does that and until Diablo 3 comes out well..It'll hold true to be entertainment
- Tsarik, on 09/19/2009, -1/+8i played the game to Lv30 twice.
its a pretty game.. PvE is very formulaic.
the graphics are nice as well, will run decently on the same machines that WoW runs well on.
I pre-ordered and would be playing.. except my gaming addiction is bound to get the best of me with this type of game. So, I canceled my account in order to concentrate of school, playing my synthesizers and painting.
hopefully FFXIV comes out after i graduate in the spring. I'll let my gaming addiction run rampant with that game. - solmakou, on 09/19/2009, -0/+6Flying, death penalties, world bosses, getting to cap is actually meaningful, fortress sieges, pvpve instances, character customization, crafting is well done, and skill chains.
- N0DIGGITY, on 09/19/2009, -1/+7Cryengine 1, AKA Farcry, released 4 years ago.
- VictorManson, on 09/19/2009, -1/+7I think I'll just wait it out until The Old Republic comes out...this looks like every other MMO out there.
- vagrantwade, on 09/19/2009, -3/+8They removed GameGuard. It is not going to be in the initial retail launch at least. And your "principles" are supporting botters and chinese farmers who completely ***** the economy in MMOs to where only the desperate and lonely who want to spend their paychecks on virtual money, can afford anything.
- WoollyMittens, on 09/19/2009, -2/+7Doubtful.
- David1985, on 09/19/2009, -1/+6the post WoW MMO market is like a Thai red light district to me, yeah sure it might look good at first but then you give up your CC details and, well.... I really don't wanna end up with another hairy barbarian lady-boy. Think I'm gonna flat out ignore the hype on this one and wait a while.
- MaTT2011, on 09/19/2009, -0/+5what about combat? Because my beef with MMO's is that, well, combat sucks. Auto attack? Really? Occasionally hit button here and there? Sounds to me like my time could be better spent playing DoTA. Which I've done after about a year of WoW.
Maybe its a bit unreasonable to expect interesting, real time, combat but I just cant see investing massive amounts of time to a game that I pay monthly for when the skill factor really isnt all that compelling. - MWeather, on 09/19/2009, -0/+5Uh, you just described every fantasy MMO in existence.
- bigp3rm, on 09/19/2009, -1/+6I saved my names today. I was hoping less people pre-ordered so I can get a better head start!
- AndrewDB, on 09/19/2009, -1/+5Uhm, No .. it's not. Try Champions Online.
- TheBifman, on 09/19/2009, -1/+5A level 70 bishop and A HUGE E-PEEN!
- solmakou, on 09/19/2009, -0/+4EQ was also a wow clone.
/s - WasabiBomb, on 09/19/2009, -0/+4Which is funny, since in Champions you can fly, run, parkour (kinda), superleap, swing, and teleport.
- zoeysdown, on 09/19/2009, -0/+3There wasn't much to choose from to begin with.
- AndrewDB, on 09/19/2009, -2/+5Re: GameGuard: "in the initial retail launch.. at least."
Which means it's coming back.
Tell that to the four friends of mine who had to format and reinstall their computers because of the open beta ***** their computer up because of that pile of ***** trash software. - Gregus1032, on 09/19/2009, -0/+3Everyone knows WoW was the first and best MMO ever.
