- hybrid11, on 12/15/2007, -3/+26is it just me, or does the guy run like a retard?
- DiggzDE, on 12/15/2007, -6/+27Wow the animations for this game are laughable.
- thebusdriver, on 12/15/2007, -4/+19This look like a game that shouldve come out in 2003/2004
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+11iPity [the fool who buys a mac for games].
- Evocati, on 12/15/2007, -4/+14"whereas in the US you might not see nipples."
Which is where I stopped reading. - DiggzDE, on 12/15/2007, -1/+11Wow, I'm retarded.
- Nico_, on 12/15/2007, -0/+9I think you misunderstand. Combat works almost real time. As you level up you get up to six attack angles to string together. Like for example after a thrust upwards it is more beneficial to follow up with a swing downwards. There is also the possibility for special combos, initiate a certain combo and follow up with the correct string of swings. This system also works well with a gamepad.
- slinky317, on 12/15/2007, -2/+10Tabula Rasa? Are you kidding me?
- ahoyhoy1, on 12/15/2007, -0/+8iLol
- mrjit, on 12/15/2007, -1/+9LOL, you're recommending Tabula Rasa, a game with what, near non-existent pvp to people who would be interested in Age of Conan, a game whose world is almost completely based around pvp? Go back to shooting aliens.
- thebusdriver, on 12/15/2007, -2/+9its not just you, the animation is really bad. This game didnt impress me at all...
- phronko, on 12/15/2007, -0/+7Wow. The U.S. needs to get its priorities straight.
- Nico_, on 12/15/2007, -1/+8That's not the same game. This is a MMO not a hack and slash.
- sodade, on 12/15/2007, -1/+7wow = retarted looking cgi
- LimeParrot, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6Definitely not just you. He runs with his hands in front as if he's holding an invisible watermelon.
- Ethanael, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6Uh... Newsflash: It's ***** Beta. Go wiki that term, would you.
- satanatnmtedu, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6Claiming that you know what i like and whther I am a fool or not makes YOU look like a fool.
- BevansDesign, on 12/15/2007, -1/+7What is this, the middle ages? The game will be rated M.
So tons of carnage is ok, but seeing a certain part of the human body is bad? - DeathfireD, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6I agree, My friend got accepted into the private beta and has been playing it for about 3 weeks now. He already has some different combos learned. From watching him play and trying it out my self, It's definitely allot harder then WoW where you just jump around and press hot keys. Age of Conan actually involves using your head and moving your character around to dodge attacks.
PS. the keys they choose for the the attack system are stupid. They better let us use the number bad on the right side of our keyboard for the attacks in the future when the game comes out. - omegaredIX, on 12/15/2007, -1/+6"Too bad Americans...when they work?" And the French have how many per hour work week? I know people like to throw in the anti-American sentiment around from time to time but come on this is...gay?
- BevansDesign, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
I could go on. - Conrey, on 12/15/2007, -3/+8I'm hoping that animation is placeholder, that was awful
- Ellipsys, on 12/15/2007, -1/+6I'm pissed that apparently its going to be censored by region. What's wrong with using that "gameplay may change while online" sticker to dodge an AO rating - after all, all the nipples and blood in the game aren't going to be in single player mode, are they? Sounds like a good loophole to me! I hate when anything is censored or localized for a certain populace. Will I have to proxy to someplace like Sweden to play the game as its creators intended it?
- Nico_, on 12/15/2007, -2/+7I'm looking forward to this game. The game mechanics look sweet. They've done a lot with the pvp system, features i have always wanted.
FTA:
Is there a system in place to hire mercenaries?
Yeah, in the Siegeing. Other players. So you can be a mercenary in the game. If it's a siege battle going down, and you see you're about to lose, or if you wanna take someone out, you can actually send out a call for mercenaries, and give them in-game credits to join the battle and they will be teleported into the siege battle. Those are other players, and there are five mercenary levels as well.
Huge pvp endgame:
I noticed that in the trailer you were showing some housing being built. Is that in the game as well?
That's a player-made village. What you saw was a Battle Keep going up. So depending on whether you want a peaceful city or a PvP city, you stake your claim on land, and in the peaceful areas, obviously, no one can actually siege you, but in the border kingdoms, you can lay siege to other's lands and take the land from their guild. And that's where the mercenary system comes in as well. And there will be opportunity where you can actually attack these places. The system is somewhat similar to a strategy game, where you have a grid of land, x amount of space for the group, say nine buildings or whatever, and you need to choose which buildings should my guild build, what can I afford, how should I build it ...
No need for devoting too much time:
PvP tiers. There are a lot of people who are saying that my friends have more time than me, they play a lot more than me, if I'm out of the game for two days, they won't even talk to me anymore, so we implemented some stuff to make the game more playable for people with families, and less time. One of these is the PvP tier system, almost like a master/apprentice system, where you can actually have someone of a lower level follow you through the game. Most of us have families, we're developers, we have kids, we see that we're not able to play as much as we did when we were 18. I'm not gonna say that there won't be hardcore stuff in there as well, but the main bulk of it should be accessible to pretty much everyone.
This game will really be different from the MMO crowd. If you like the social MMO gaming you should really check it out. Do not be fooled by the poor videos shown in the article. Check these clips out instead:

Sign up for beta here:
http://beta.ageofconan.com/beta_application/ - BevansDesign, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4I always welcome new games that attempt to innovate. If nothing else, it keeps Blizzard on their toes, and pushes them to make WoW even better, which is always good for me.
- positron, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4If you're looking for a great PvP MMO check into Warhammer Online. The entire game revolves around facing off against enemy player factions, taking over their territory, sieging their fortresses, and sacking their cities. The action starts on day one and you'll be able to level up and loot new gear solely through PvP if that's your style.
- Osjpr, on 12/15/2007, -3/+7Age of Conan sounds pretty awesome to me. Nice tech behind it, too.
- Razerious, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Well, it's not out yet and they're still working on the engine, so I'm hoping they manage to improve the performance. The beta client currently has high-res textures and high-detail (DX10) shaders disabled.
Aren't you bound by the NDA when you're in the beta, anyway? - FunkyPits, on 12/15/2007, -5/+8Especially considering the box you need to run it. - PhilMoskowitz, on 12/16/2007, -1/+4Mythic was the only company I had any faith in to create a well balanced complex game, but warhammer looks like an f'ing WoW clone, and it's convoluted war system looks stupid.
- keola2, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4Almost everything you are complaining about what MMO's need this game has, other than the medieval setting but to me I haven't grown tired of it yet. Most Sci-Fi MMO's have failed to impress me so far, Planetside, SW galaxies, Eve Online and even Tabula Rasa I found to all be boring and trust me i'd love to find a nice Sci-Fi MMO especially a good space Sim type but as of yet there seems to be nothing special.
It seems you need to do a little research reading before you criticize this game, even in this very interview linked through digg there is mention of castles and forts built and designed by players, and sieging and defending these places which does have deformation. One of the designers even mentioned prestige classes where you could be a mercenary and be hired with money(gold?) to help defend or attack one of these castles or forts built by guilds or the prestige class to command these forces and professions even come into play with Siege PVP.
You mentioned it needs more interactivity, well so far it seems like the most interactive MMO yet and has a KOTOR or Mass Effect like dialog system with what seems like a good story(yes in an MMO a good story) and the most lifelike environment i've seen yet in an MMO. The gameplay seems far from slow and is anything but an auto attack dice roll type of game, you control your every move and the combat system is very dynamic and it seems gear doesn't mean everything it is more skill based which is one of the biggest reason i'm interested in this game not just the flashy gore and decapitation that this game has. The only nag so far about this game seems to be the animations need a little smoothing out as it looks a bit clunky at the moment but other than that everyone should read more about this game before they make their decision. - icenineiv, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2as soon as he got out of the water that was the very first thing I noticed. It seems alot of MMOs have an issue with character animations. LOTRO was just as bad, looked like the character was running on some invisible surface above the ground.
- mushroomsrmagic, on 12/15/2007, -2/+4EA owning it has me very worried. They absolutely destroyed Ultima Online when they started messing with it.
- Blackbow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2What? No nipples in the Land of the Free? Surely you jest? /end sarcasm
- thebusdriver, on 12/15/2007, -7/+9what videos were you watching??
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -2/+4I want these guys to understand one thing. The users need FUN mechanics to work around while still being rewarding. Im so sick of "kill x mobs", or returning drops quest. I still play WoW, but this crap has always overwhelmed me to where I must run instances 100% of the time for fun.
- RoxetteWise, on 12/15/2007, -8/+10Cool!
- Blackbow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2WAR is going to disappoint a lot of people. You heard it here first.
- Blackbow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Does anyone else see the irony in living "in the land of the free" but having nipples censored from your Mature rated videogames? WTF is wrong with this country? /shakeshead in disbelief. I'll be buying the European edition, as I did for The Witcher.
- mishsquish, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2WoW had PvP that served no purpose, but people still participated in it and it was fun. Honor patch changed everything, but that did not come out for ages.
- Yndis, on 12/15/2007, -8/+10Ive got really high hopes for this game. I just hope it doesn't disappoint me. It looks good in the videos.
- Blackbow, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2WAR only wishes it was a good as WoW. The PVP may end up being great, but the core game is souless. WoW, whether you like the game design or not, has a lot of soul.
- positron, on 12/16/2007, -1/+3EA has absolutely nothing to do with WAR's development. The only thing they are there for is to funnel money into Mythic's project and distribute the game when it is done. They are 100% hands off.
- thebusdriver, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2how can you know its good if it isn't out?...
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Then Conan is the one you should try.
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1When it comes to MMOs, especially ones with an agenda as risky as Conans is supposed to be, who ***** cares about the shiny.
- xceptionaly, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I must admit I was hoping for a little extra from the combat system. Why can't MMO's have decent fighting? I'm so tired of clicking on monsters pressing the attack button, and then jerking off or reading a book for a minute or two until its dead. I want a game, not a 3d dice-roll and spreadsheet simulator. Conan looks like its taking a step in the right direction, but I guess subconsciously I keep waiting for MMO Rune, and its just not going to happen. The genre is taking babysteps, but fundamentally they're all still ***** Everquest in 2007.
- getbusyliving, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1Retarted = Retarded, you ***** retard.
- Khraiven, on 12/15/2007, -1/+2It has serious potential. Only time will tell if they pushed the boundries of FUN, or if it is just another rehash of MMO's with a pretty facelift.
- cultist667, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1This game sucks read here from page 59 onward its garbage http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorpg-general-disc ... If that isn't bad enough they made a deal with a gold farming company to sell items in this game for money.http://www.livegamer.com/hotnews.php?id=1
