Age of Conan One of the Fastest Selling PC Games of All Time
news.filefront.com — Funcom has announced that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is shaping up to be one of the fastest selling PC games of all time. Half of the visitors to Hyboria, over 400,000 of them come from North America. The record pre-orders for the game have translated to financial dividends.

- mmijatov, on 05/27/2008, -8/+1I just can't imagine this game putting a dent into WoW. I wish you all the luck in the world though, you're going to need it against the juggernaut that is the World of Warcraft.
- l0k0, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4Who says you have to beat WoW to be successful? Is every MMO that doesn't have 10+ million subscribers a failure?
- troglodytejb, on 05/27/2008, -1/+7Have you tried it? If any game stands a chance, it's this one. It's got some bugs and balance is awful right now, but launch was fairly smooth and the gameplay is more fun than WoW. The big concern, honestly, is the system requirements, coupled with how quickly they address launch issues.
If they do it right, they stand to grab a healthy market share. - justice7, on 05/27/2008, -0/+5I picked up this game and its utterly fantastic -- whats wow? (for me, i won't be going back to Warcraft after playing AoC)
Only one problem -- huge performance issues. They're working on them, but everyone is having problems keeping a framerate over 20 -- even on really high end hardware.- korvan504521, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I haven't heard of any good systems having performance problems in the release version, although everyone was having it really tough during the beta.
- yohnstoppable, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I have an 8800 gts 512, athlon 4200+ dual core, and 2 gb of ram. If I'm playing single player (tortage night) I can set it to high and it runs great. If I'm in a multiplayer area (even with no one around me) I get horrible framerate issues, even on low sometimes. I set it to low, and had to lower my settings further for it to be playable. And this is on a fresh install, so I have no idea what the issue could be.

Me want really expensive combat ready Conan sword. STEEL IS STRENGTH!- korvan504521, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1This you can trust.
- Maurina, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Blizzard made the huge mistake of banning 3% of their playerbase (for botting/buying gold) two days before AoC came out. I'd bet that the people who got banned will take this chance to at least try Age of Conan, possibly allowing it to gain some momentum.
- Koush, on 05/27/2008, -0/+3I got the game on the UK release date and it's very enjoyable...
However it's got some problems that gets on my nerves...
A) you are soloing and happily doing quests when some jerks come out of nowhere and destory you....A2) or a overpowered archer just happily picks you off with its overpowered ways while your fighting.
B) freaking everyone has a move or spell that basically just keeps you there for about 10 seconds..you get caught in this spell while 2/3 people just mame you from after and by the time you get out this spell and start limping towards your prey...they just do a spell that does 100's and bitch slaps you.
C) if you get attacked in town, you'll spawn pretty near where you died...then douchebags just kill you then while you have like 5% so far of your life.
D)People on the main channel who keep whining about how they left WoW and the pain they are going thru or something like that.
there's a couple more reasons why it annoys me a tad...(like how when you leave the first town and go into the more advanced areas, the wonderful voice acting virtually dies and how some weapons dont even have a fatality/some animals cant be properly fatalited)...
However in my novice opinion the game is worth sticking out...there's a lot of potential there and its worth putting up with for now till the people at funcom do something about it.. - Snokage, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2having played a Funcom MMO in the past, AoC will be awesome. their community it much nicer and from what i remember its more adult oriented too. i miss anarchy online : (
- Hamerhead33, on 05/28/2008, -0/+0I didn't pick up AO until it became free, but I thought it was well worth the time I spent playing it. No game can go wrong with an overpowered meatball for a pet.
- NecroSexy, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Expansion: Andy's Return.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2Well the PC gaming industry has been on top these days and this is a major competitor to games like GTA IV and MGS 4.

- Sirocco, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1Yeah, aside from MMORPGs you have a lot of sub-par DRM-riddled console ports to look forward to! PC gaming is dying a horrible death.
- Kenelm, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1Too bad it is heavily zoned and instanced...
Don't get me wrong... I love Age of Conan, it is a great multiplayer RPG. Just don't call it a MMORPG. It's more like Diablo II or Guild Wars. - olithebumm, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Tell me when it actually IS the fastest selling PC Game of all time.
- NICU, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Very cool game, but the system requirements are going to prevent a lot of people from switching over from WoW. My laptop can play WoW with over 30fps, but it can't break 10fps playing Age of Conan on the lowest settings possible.
- yohnstoppable, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1The game is a lot better than I expected so far, but it is far from perfect. For starters, the ui is *****. You can't even tell where party members are, unless they are REALLY close to you. Even then they are a tiny grey dot on the minimap. And the game runs like ass on my computer which is well above recommended requirements. When I was still in tortage I could go to the single player portion and set it to high no problem. But when I'm in a multiplayer area I put it on low and still have issues. It is annoying to go from a single player to multiplayer area and get a horrendous slide show until you can dumb down your settings. Now I just play it on low all the time
Overall, though, I like it. It is absolutely brutal leveling on deathwhisper, as I get ganked about every 10 seconds, but that's fun. Questing is almost too easy, as you follow arrows telling you where you need to go. The basic gameplay is pretty fun, and I can see it as something I might play for a while.
If I were to give a final verdict, it would be to wait a few months before buying it. Let it get polished (ui mostly), balanced (priest of mitra are way o/p), and let them put the rest of the stuff like siege combat in. Also, unless you are really into harsh pvp do NOT roll on a ffa pvp server. You will get ganked. You will get graveyard camped. And you will get pissed off. That is why I love it so much :)
