- NihilistZealot, on 10/11/2007, -5/+82Well, the event of an attack in a game is not a surprise, but the fact they spent thousands of dollars on a virtual island seems to be the odd part of the story.
- SCARECR0W, on 10/11/2007, -6/+76Ummm, has to be said:
Someone set us up the bomb. - solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -15/+62i don't understand how people actually play that "game"
The 80's called and they want their graphics back.
and people really need to STOP calling that ***** joke of wasted webspace/bandwidth the Metaverse.
Neal Stephenson's vision is far above and beyond that god damn farce.
those people make me sick.
I hope penises rain down for all eternity. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+47Lol this story seems like something I'd see on the onion.
"The vandals left logos for sports brands Nike and Puma on the island... But sources suggested the logos could have been an attempt to throw investigators off the trail." - arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44Second Life threat level raised to Orange.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -3/+42we get signal.
- tnvwboy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+44Second Life is still relevant? It's a waste land of cybersex and lamers.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38Main screen turn on.
- MurderMystery, on 10/11/2007, -0/+28Before and after pictures.

I kinda wish that this happened IRL. Companies should stat blowing up competitors commercial investments and pasting the wreckage with their logos. Guerilla Marketing 2.0 - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Nuked by flying penises? Those guys got creamed.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -6/+28+1 for attempting to revive Lamers.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22From what I gather, based on the comments of an older digg article about "terrorism" attacks in second life, the nukes aren't really nuclear warheads going off in the game. Apparently there's script you can write that "shoves" objects repeatedly and causes the recipient of the attack to crash or something like that.
It's also a bannable offense.
If someone familiar with the act of second life nuking can come clarify what it really is, that would make me a happy panda ;) - Bartboy919, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Get ready for tons of lost jokes
- lunarworks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19ABC has nothing to do with ABC.
The Aussie version is a crown corporation (do they call them that there?), much like the BBC and CBC. - Criterion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Bombs do not affect anything that is not set physical (meaning, most stuff). Likely this is nothing more than a case of the isle administrator having the terrain edit checkbox set to "everyone can edit", somebody comes along, raises the land up over objects to autoreturn them, then reverting the land. Just sloppy management practice, no threat that I see.. other to themselves.
- sirgolf82, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21How are you gentlemen
- RadioFiasco, on 10/11/2007, -9/+26It's cyber terrorism!!!! Keep an eye out for Bush warning America...
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20You can build and script anything you want. A while back some guy was able to create a nuclear bomb or something... I guess that's what happened here.
- arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20All ABC are belong to us
- WiZZLa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16it was either bombs or flying penises.

video on the penis attack here: http://v.somethingawful.com/secondlife/room101/anshechung.mpg - straxus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16What you say?!
- DeathBorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16You have no chance to survive make your time.
- MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Yes, hanging out on the web is so much cooler.
- BenKenobi88, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18Wrong, they're lifeless losers with money to spend...easily impressionable by companies like Sony, IBM, etc...
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15PANDA? You look more like an owl to me.
- Ndiggnation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12You care enough to comment about how much you don't care. :)
- omnithought, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10It costs $10L (10 in-game dollars) to upload a single texture. Get a fat piece of land with a ***** of textures, as well as paying people to create the custom content and it adds up.
- tizz66, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12The cyber patriot act takes away your cyber freedoms in order to catch the cyber terrorists who want to blow up your cyber world with cyber bombs!
- bloodomen13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8@cielo
Simple answer... no. you can't wipe out the grid. - bloodomen13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8@solemnraven
You're thinking of Syndicate. God, I loved that game - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I heard Second Life prison can be pretty rough.
- bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Because I'm creating things, not playing a game that someone else wrote.
It's the PERFECT place to hang out and learn your 3d modeling, and see your items in action.
Do THAT with CS or WoW. - Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12You mean "llamas".
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12LoL one of the great things about Australia starting with an A is that American Companies can start branches/subsidiaries over there and not change there abbreviations. AOL for example (Australia online) but also works in the case Australian Broadcasting company (ABC).
Also SOA (Subaru of America, Australia) ect and so forth. - eradicator, on 10/11/2007, -13/+20Cue the Jackson 5...
"Blowin' up ABC... it's easy as 123..." - Criterion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Nukes are just objects with a large push effect. They do not affect anything that is not set physical.
Avatars are physical. Your non-phys vehicle is your friend.. or just sit on something. :) - bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7You haven't searched for land lately. There's so much for sale it's staggering.
Oh, you wanted FREE land. I get it. - nesibus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12When it first came out, I installed it...played it for about 20minutes....then realized....what the hell is so fun about flying around in a world...where everyone sits in chairs for hours to gain money....to spend on vehicles that drive like pure $hit, or on a house that you walk around in like a zombie doing absolutely nothing. Someone was looking to "hire" people for their "club".......where clicking dance and watching lame avatars dance in the same motions for more then 1 minute....is a waste of oxygen and your life.
I was asking what there was to do in the game, some little lamer tells me to sit on his ship...he puts food in front of me, I ask how to eat it...he told me to pretend...I quickly decided that the game has an age level of about 12 max after that statement and became so bored I had no choice but to uninstall it and cringe at any mention of it, do to its lameness and the feeling of pure stupidity you get from it.
Second life is glorified chat...leave chatting to mIRC.
Next they will incorporate myspace into secondlife....MySecondSpace? - Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10They paid 10's of thousands of dollars to create that ***** in the photo?
Seems like they got screwed twice.
Not that i GAS, second life sucks. - sbrickner, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8"My friends and I don't like it, so it's a time-waster that doesn't create value."
Nonsense. You may not like it (and I don't either) but clearly *somebody's* in there spending a lot of time and money.
I could make the same comments about Survivor, or the NFL, too... I watched 'em - found 'em to be completely lame. They're a timewaster and a bubble ready to burst. Doesn't make it *true*. - Criterion, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7"I must have hit a nerve with Second No-Lifers."
Not at all, but what you did do is show that you like to talk ***** about something you don't have a freakin clue about. Yeah, thats smart. You really showed me. Oh.. wait.. that's right, people actually PAY me to make stuff there, so I guess... maybe you didn't.
Guess you didn't think that maybe friends could live all the way on the other side of the planet or something. - WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Some avatar is going to be spending the next couple years in virtual Guantanamo...
- KlayBorg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6ABC is an Australian channel, not a brand...
- bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6It will never happen in Home, because you'll solely be using Sony's content.
- bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What do you care?
- bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The latest client update introduces sculpted "prims" (primitive geometry units), that are able to be crafted in 3d modeling programs to be MUCH more than the 5 basic shapes that SL builders have to work with currently.
Expect the graphics to take a GIANT leap forward. - solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What was that computer game that was like that, agian?
It was like a Turn based 3/4's over head view (think fallout type) game of Real corporate warfare..... - bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm sorry I'm not technically adept enough at creating multi-million dollar quality objects to put into the world.
I'm doing it off my desk, on my PC, with my money, not a Multi-million dollar budget with rendering farms writing code specifically optimized for the world.
The graphics may not be as polished as Unreal or Crytek, but I like the variety of user-created content, and the capability to make my own.
You go shoot that sniper, I'm going to put together my modeling skills, so I'll be the one of the people creating the next games that you play.
Consider it an artists playground, not a game system. - Bucketshred, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The whole world is divided into seperate sims which can be privately owned and most scripts are confined only to the zone it is used in. And a lot of privately owned sims have restrictions on letting only certain people use scripts in certain areas. There is one nuke, that i know of, that can be launched from one sim to another (to someone) but i dont know the range it has.
