Sins of a Solar Empire - Boooohjoke, on 12/04/2008, -2/+10114 pages? No thanks.
- ELCad, on 12/04/2008, -3/+57No Left4Dead or GTA4?
- NinjaGod, on 12/05/2008, -2/+34This is a ***** list.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+26seriously - wtf? BURIED.
- benman587, on 12/04/2008, -4/+24Lord of the Rings expansion and Warhammer but no mention of WoW:WotLK?
- NixiePixel, on 12/04/2008, -0/+15Some great games here, good list...though isn't Sins a little old? Not that I'm complaining, I love the game.
- SuperVepr308, on 12/04/2008, -3/+18Is it just me or was COD5 just not that great?
- ProfessorRamrod, on 12/05/2008, -1/+16No left 4 dead huh? ***** you MSN
- RafiParrr, on 12/05/2008, -0/+15Why are half the recommendations on PC World's list for consoles? Nothing against consoles, but I was expecting PC games.
- MasonZombie, on 12/05/2008, -1/+16I think the true value of L4D comes when you play with three of your friends. When it is done that way, I think it is worth it.
And it definitely needs to be played on PC. Valve games just aren't Valve games unless they're on PC. - Gizza, on 12/05/2008, -1/+14It is most definitely worth $40-50. Especially compared with games like mirrors edge which cost $60 and you finish in 5 hours. I've clocked up over 20 hours on L4D so far and have still only played 2 of the 4 campaigns and have yet to complete either of them on expert (though I have been killed as my team mates have got away).
I'm not even getting a hint of boredom from the game. - 0x0000ff, on 12/05/2008, -4/+17Well... GTA4 is a boring masterpiece so i'd imagine any list that involves actually playing a game rather than loving it because of a name.
- GREENEMAC, on 12/05/2008, -0/+12I believe PC World needs to change their name to "Console Publisher Sellout World"
- InfernoX, on 12/05/2008, -0/+10"The only way it's not worth $50 is if you have no friends. Real life friends."
Nonsense, you can play Left4Dead with your Online friends too! - Spytap, on 12/05/2008, -1/+11The fact that you mention MK vs DC gives me no choice but to bury you.
- DMXell, on 12/05/2008, -1/+10No Left4Dead? Non-gamers made this list.
- Tbags, on 12/05/2008, -2/+11I think it's definitely worth $50. Valve games are always real well made and supported very well (On the PC, we've already had a few updates fixing bugs and issues). Since the day of its release, everyone I know that has it loves it, on both Xbox and PC and play it very frequently. It surly surpass most other online multilayer first person shooters and adding in the cooperative element better than I've ever seen.
- slvrbullet87, on 12/05/2008, -0/+9Spore is borring after making about 2 creatures
- eatmyshorts5, on 12/05/2008, -0/+9What the hell where is Left 4 dead?
- coolAstar, on 12/05/2008, -0/+8TYPO.
*crosses out: World at War*...*write in with a sharpy in all caps: Modern Warfare*
all better now. - Sudzz, on 12/05/2008, -0/+8Left 4 Dead is such a great game to play with real life friends on PC or 360. I've clocked so many hours on both platforms. I play it at my house online with a buddy of mine and also frequently play co-op at a friends house switching off with a bunch of people. Great game and well worth $40-$50. Definitely deserves to be on this list.
- stklaw, on 12/05/2008, -3/+11The only way it's not worth $50 is if you have no friends. Real life friends.
- btschul, on 12/05/2008, -1/+8I thought the demo for 5 sucked. I'm waiting for 6.
- zinc6471, on 12/05/2008, -0/+78800gt is still fine.... don't really need to update
- jessenoob, on 12/05/2008, -6/+12I think they were trying to pick good games.
*takes cover* - jaymulder, on 12/05/2008, -2/+8WAR totally killed WoW. Just like AoC did.
/s - Sonixunite, on 12/05/2008, -2/+8*****. 14 Slow pages, too.
- radu79, on 12/05/2008, -1/+7DRM FTL!
- ipushmycar, on 12/05/2008, -1/+6Agreed.
But you have to admit... anyone who plays WoW probably already has it, and is not waiting until festivus to get it. - mecharabbit, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5I'll be shedding tears in my eggnog over the fact that Gears of War 2 will not be released for the PC.
- Gonasadude, on 12/05/2008, -4/+9How can you leave out the World of Warcraft expansion? I think 10 million monthly players definitely deserves a mention as those people spend _way_ more time playing (a) video game(s) than anyone should.
- InfernoX, on 12/05/2008, -1/+6The Witcher isn't anymore of a niche game than Fallout 3 or Mass Effect. I agree on the games you mentioned though, Far Cry 2 is an excellent game that is entirely underrated, MK vs DC looks like a lot of fun, L4D is a blast, Resistance 2 looks like a top notch singleplayer experience on the ps3 and Dead Space is just ***** brilliant.
- awt88, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5I thought the same thing.
- 0x0000ff, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4I bet you love The Sims as well?
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -2/+6A good one.
- aforce369, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4The author explains that Left4dead and WotLK aren't on here because:
" This piece is an attempt to mix things up a bit, not just another "games people are going to buy a ton of" list. :)".
(Source: http://www.pcworld.com/article/154297/video_games_ ...
In other words, he's just ***** dumb. It's the internet, there are tons of these lists, and by recommending games that honestly don't deserve to be on here (Call of Duty anyone?) he is ousting a few that really do, like L4D and WotLK, and making himself look out of touch with the gaming community. - InfernoX, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4Better than most, includes Fallout 3, The Witcher, Little Big Planet, Sins of a Solar Empire and World of Goo.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4There are already console exclusives on the list, unless a PC version of Gears 2 came out when I wasn't looking.
- sexybobo, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4@stklaw
I beg to differ the people i know from other games and a lot of times the random strangers you meet are very fun to play with. Actualy better because my friends in RL always try to go rambo and end up costing the game.
I have played the game for over 45 hours and the demo for 20 and i am no where near being tierd with it. - Beerduck, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4Why does a PC World list (focusing on the "PC" here), have console games in it? PC World, not Console World. Buried.
Also, how do you put 12 games of 14 pages? That's like dividing by 0. Buried. - maus56, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4Dugg for Sins Of A Solar Empire and no DRM.
- duccodude, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3me too! Good ole NV40 based 6800 vanillas with the pipeline unlocks!
- karmaghost, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Why is PC World creating a list of holiday games for MSN that includes console-exclusive titles as well as non-exclusive titles that haven't made it to the PC yet?
- twoboxen, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Do not try to redeem yourself. the game is badass. you are not.
- twoboxen, on 12/05/2008, -1/+4It's not just you. The demo was enough for me to think it was just an average mod for COD4. Definitely not worth paying more than $5-10 for. L4D has nicely filled the void created by less COD4 in my gaming time.
- Sabre24q7, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Can we go a christmas without a WW II game ? Played so many of those it makes my eyes bleed now...
- BugMeNot2, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Gears of War 2 will probably be released for the PC next year.
Remember what they said about the first Gears of War? - JollyDumple, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3I like World at War a lot so far. Sure it's not quite as great as CoD4, but it's still really good.
Anyway, a lot of people will probably tell you that Resistance isn't a good game. In my opinion, it's really fun both single player and multiplayer, and I haven't really tried the co-op yet. In single player, most of the characters aren't particularly interesting, but the setting is really cool, the level design is great, and there are some huge, intense gunfights in there. People also tend to complain about cheap deaths and the enemies focusing on the player most of the time. The latter is kinda true, but it doesn't get in the way of any of the fun. I haven't experienced any cheap deaths, though. As long as you're aware of your surroundings (a gigantic monster bringing its fist down onto the roof of the building that you're standing on isn't all that hard to spot), you'll be fine. - iMiXiMi, on 12/05/2008, -1/+4I would've rather seen the best Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers.
