      No ***** it's scripted, coreographed and all the rest. You know movies and tv shows are scripted too right?

      You know what else? Movies and TV shows get to shoot and reshoot not only stunts but everything else until it's perfect. I'm not even a wrestling fan but you really do have to give these guys credit, they get up there and act infront of an enormous live international audience, pulling off amazing physical feats with NO second takes.

      Scripted or not, that's pretty impressive.

Then due to amazing wrestling physics i will roll slightly to the right forcing my arms to cover my head.

      • lewikee, on 07/17/2008, -2/+4I don't think you understand what the phrase "X is dead. Long live X" means. You can only use that when whatever died is immediately replaced by something almost exactly like it.

        Hence why people would say "The king is dead. Long live the king." There was a new king that assumed powers immediately upon the death of the previous one.

        In the case of ECW - as you pointed out yourself - the interaction between fans and wrestlers will never be captured again. This is a thus a poor case to warrant the use of that phrase.

ECW is dead, but true classic ECW nostalgia continues to be a commercial success. Look at the One Night Stand PPV's and The Rise and Fall of ECW. ECW is dead but it will live on in the memories of the fans. So, while it's not the historical meaning of the phrase, I only thing it still pertains to the situation, unless you're a pedantic prick.

        And really, does it make sense to be a pedantic prick about an organization where people were hit with flaming baseball bats and had dollar bills stapled to their foreheads?

Especially the old ECW, where the talents were often told the basic story that they were supposed to tell in the ring, and they used their creative talents to put together the matches. I doubt terry funk calling for chairs was scripted, and I SERIOUSLY doubt they expected the massive orgy of chair-chucking that ensued.

      If all you've ever seen in the ridiculous hulk hogan nonsense from the 80's, you're justified in thinking wrestling is completely corny scripted kiddy stuff, but talented wrestlers combined with intelligent booking can produce a really entertaining product.

        Most of the times nothing is specifically "practiced" for a particular match. Things are just "talked up" backstage before the match.

    I tell you, I've seen a lot of shows in my time, televised and live, big and small, and that dinky bingo hall in South Philly had more character, more fun more genuine fun. It's one of the lessons Vince McMahon has never learned - people WANT to be connected. They don't want to watch Gods on the screen.
