- fpssledge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24aaaahahahaha. A "Funny Car" is a type of race car. Just like a "Stock Car" or an "Indy Car" or a "Dragster". For some reason, they just call those type of dragsters "Funny Cars". I guess it's because they look kinda funny.

Normal dragster: http://www.manciniracing.com/photo_gallery/pictures/dragster.jpg - dheaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow, that was a really bad crash. God must really like that guy
- ethon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Only 220 MPH? Actually, at the time of leaving the runway and into the grass, he was still traveling at 288 mph. After the car flipped, the top of the roll cage ,and the top of Hammond's helmet(!), were grinding against the ground at 250 MPH. [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Hammond#Car_accident ] Any watcher of Top Gear knows how much grief Hammond takes for being short. It's crazy to think that his height was a big part in his survival of his crash; had Richard been, say, the height of Clarkson, his head would probably have been taken clear off by the ground.
Very glad to see Hammond and the guys back doing their thing.
EDIT: Oh, just noticed that the video from your link above was removed, so here it is on YouTube:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=V0LoI-lpoiQ - drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's almost as bad as Hamster's crash on Top Gear!
- iseebluuue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3truly catastrophical
- HabboX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My new favorite word is catastrophical.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Heres the worst one and dies!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z4iDFT4ZtfA&mode=related&search= - ArkAngel06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hahaha, i only read the comments because I knew some one would be retarded enough to say "that wasn't funny, whats wrong with you?"
lol - anonydigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Why does a drag racing track have guard rails? It should be open space forever to let them slow down if they lose control.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Absolutely. I've seen this before, but this time my reaction was "Wow, check that guardrail out."
- createthezerone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is crazy. The guy stands up before the car even finishes rolling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9orWFEHJIZ8&NR
- NtHammer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ZING!
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1video was removed due to the requests of BBC
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It reduces the impact by absorbing and spreading out the energy of the impact in a more controlled fashion than just running headlong into a stationary object that was not desgined to do so.
- MaxwellTD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Nobiting
Actually that "normal" Dragster is called a "Top Fuel" dragster. I wouldn't call it "normal" because there are a lot of other types of drag cars that you would see more often than a top fuel dragster. For example: a Pro street dragster http://www.dragtimes.com/images/5118-1967-Chevrolet-Camaro.jpg - leftfield, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen this several times but never noticed his legs come out at the end until the narrator pointed it out. That guy has amazing luck.
- NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3ya, i guess god just hates everyone who has cancer
- Zoltair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Should watch some of John Force... The guy is always doing 200+ MPH even out of the Funny Car....
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's pathetic how stock car racing devolved from actual stock cars in the '60s to stupid spectacles like funny cars and NASCAR. You know, they used to race actual cars, ones that had to be homologated as production vehicles, that you could drive on actual roads legally. Now they all run the same tube frame kits and just change the stickers.
- Indecision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The video says "some people consider this the worst drag racing accident of all time," and the article here seems to agree. But, um...people have died in drag racing accidents, right? And this guy lived, yeah?
By whose metric this is the "worst" if the guy lived? - ArkAngel06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If they loose control going at extremely high speeds, they are bound to flip. The guard rail often slows them down fast enough to stop that from happening.
- anonydigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"reduces the impact."
Sry, but as compared to what? Hitting air?
Spectators? sure. That makes sense. - thethresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, Urusai, you have to go back to the 30s and 40s to find strictly stock appearing drag cars. Rail jobs have been around since the 50s. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1045072731011903998ccYvyA
