- TenaciousG86, on 10/19/2009, -0/+29I wonder if they just stood there running in place...
- inactive, on 10/19/2009, -0/+19You are joking, but that is probably EXACTLY what they did. Maybe not at their regular marahon pace, but I doubt they just stood still. Especially since this was at the very end of the race. the last thing marathon runners want to do after 2 hours of running is to stop and let their legs cramp up and then try to start running again a minute later.
- Misinformant, on 10/19/2009, -0/+17*sad trombone*
- trdrstv, on 10/19/2009, -0/+16Apparently nobody was fast enough.... Imagine the lead you would have if you got over the tracks before the train came...
- jimbolla, on 10/19/2009, -0/+13I bet the participants were... steamed.
- SneakyNinja, on 10/19/2009, -1/+14Wow... I ran in this race. I only ran the 5K though.
Never expected to see this on the front page. - jimbolla, on 10/19/2009, -1/+13Good thing Simon Sawe was a... trained... sprinter.
- wassim2k, on 10/19/2009, -0/+12We'll never beat the Kenyans
- jimbolla, on 10/19/2009, -0/+11They should... track... down the idiot responsible for this.
- mizarone, on 10/19/2009, -1/+11Looks like these puns just... ran out of steam
- jeffwmartin, on 10/19/2009, -0/+8I bet someone got choo'ed out for this
- jeffwmartin, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7Maybe you should practice a bit more w/ the reply button
- lurkingIowan, on 10/19/2009, -1/+8The train operators must have gotten their signals crossed..
- Tpatch, on 10/19/2009, -0/+6Crafty Kenyans and their trains.
- shuffle, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5It's all mental past 8km. True story.
- aufte, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4Why didn't you just write 'you all'?
- rokusky, on 10/20/2009, -0/+4Let's now derail the topic now.
- deerhake11, on 10/19/2009, -2/+6some places (especially the midwest) it's hard to go 26 miles and not hit a train crossing at least once... just bad timing.
- FurtThePirate, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4http://sadtrombone.com/
- a2fan, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Maybe it was a problem with their training.
- inactive, on 10/19/2009, -2/+5Wow....what a stupid comment for many reasons:
1. You still think it is clever to use the word FAIL like that.
2. You did't read the article.
3. You don't realize that pretty much ANY decent sized city as lots of railroad crossings around town (the rail system is what allow many of these cities to GET big) and therefore designing a 26 miles course that doesn't go around in circles almost definitely will cross tracks at least once.
Ofcourse...bury me for pointing out how badly your failed in your comment. (Notice I said you failed...I didn't say you were a fail. Because I am older than 11 years old.) - Heiminator, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3my sweet spot is exactly between 6-7k,its ***** up, i can run the 5k with little to no problems but 8k feels impossibly hard to do
- PowderedToasty, on 10/19/2009, -1/+4According to the article it happens a lot. This was due to a mis-communication.
- pm6041141, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3I am glad to say this will never happen to me.
- Andreeew, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3CHOO CHOO
- djdingo, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Stay classy Des Moines.
Hey, I live in Des Moines so I can say that! - codyman, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Des Moine only grew because of the railway that was built through it....
"Growth was slow during the Civil War period, but the city exploded in size and importance after a railroad link was completed in 1866."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Des_Moines,_Iowa#Era_ ... - mizarone, on 10/20/2009, -0/+3Looks like somebody... just got off track.
- chieflbm, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Well done, sir. I nearly spit my coffee on the screen
- tj1627, on 10/19/2009, -3/+5train (n.): the marathon runner's pace car
- intekra, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3Well that sucks...
- RezzedOut, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2No, "WE" won't, but Ryan Hall has a great chance!!!! Imagine the jolt the US running community will get when he breaks through with a major win!!!! GO RYAN!!!!
- tdp301, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2http://www.statemaster.com/graph/trn_bri_tot_num-t ...
- rokusky, on 10/20/2009, -0/+22:24:50... that's still really amazing, especially after waiting for the train for a few minutes.
- Remelox, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Get tips from Superman: The Movie.
- airwalke, on 10/20/2009, -0/+2Buried for "Iowa Cheese". LOL.
- scuba7183, on 10/19/2009, -2/+4Lets see you do it
And before you tell me to do it, I run cross country in college and regularly run 5K and 8K races - RezzedOut, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I trained to race 26.2 miles, not a frickin' train!!!
Note to self: train to race trains...Google it... - Remelox, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1To make those of us from Iowa look bad. (No, I don't live there now but it is the first place I lived. Any state should have the chance to live that down.)
- airwalke, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Des Moines FTW. Love this town, and its marathon-disrupting ways.
- gkiltz, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1You gotta love the level of communication! Only in America!
- Remelox, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Then maybe I ran past you (not this year, want to do it again though, I will check the train schedule first).
- ratboneusa, on 10/19/2009, -0/+0pwnd
- TitsMageee, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1Tuwei came in second.
- Rempefiesta, on 10/20/2009, -1/+1Jebus, don't we have anything ELSE to talk about than Iowa?
I remember when Kevin Costner came through Iowa. That was something to talk about. - hacker52404, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1Seriously? First of all, Iowa isn't known for cheese. And the article mentions this happens more often than you'd think.
At least we let the gays get married. How's that working out for you'all in Cal-a-fornia? - vspazv, on 10/19/2009, -3/+3I don't care how much Iowa cheese you try and hand out. It won't compensate for the stupidity involved here.
- Smokeydabear, on 10/19/2009, -2/+1Rocket City Marathon bitchez
