Track the Tour de France on Google Street View

maps.google.com — The Tour de France, one of the world's greatest sporting events, started today, and Google is providing a new way to track the route, via Street View and get the perspective of the riders as you go through the route. Given the recent Viacom ruling however it remains to be seen just how much they'll be tracking you whilst you do so.

  • rblancarte, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3With Google having the satellite view, it is really cool - this is even more so. I am watching the coverage live right now, and saw them pass a church in Lanrodec, and I was able to find them on the map and see the church in street view.

    My only transportation for 10 years was a bike and I grew to hate them. Love them now, since I got the recumbent.

A traditional bike will handle better / turn harder. Climb better. Descend better. Accelerate better. Go faster in a sprint. And really only old men, hippies and weirdos ride them.

    There is no way a recumbent bike could be competitive in the Tour.

    If you didn't already know that google tracks your search terms and which google products you use then you need to get out of your hole in the rock because it has be known for a long time.

    If google logging the IP of every page visit on one of their sites disturbs you then get off the internet because pretty much every website does it.

  • IronDonut, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0Galanz. Completely with you man. Everytime I hear some pro-recumbent propaganda it makes me want to punch someone in the mouth. The only cycle design that handles worse than a recumbent is the penny farthing.

    I would love to the the carnage of a group of recumbents decending down an Alpine pass.
