- mgrest, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16The title of the article is wrong. It should be: "20 great strikes from outside the Penalty Area".
Great goals are not limited to smacking it in from over 20 yards out... - DIGGerPhelpsND, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12And that doesn't even top his teammate's goal. Here is Lionel Messi against Getafe:

- BlackOp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Rooney vs Portsmouth should've been in it. Here is the BBC's goal of the season comp which includes it.

- jrobbio, on 10/11/2007, -9/+15All very good, but still don't think any of them touch Ronaldinho's overhead kick from this season's La Liga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gue36CLIuB4
- Wurlitzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You're right, but these goals are always visually impressive though. It's just a delight to watch.
- chestertonb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Sensational!
Still think Matty Taylor's for Pompey was the best, didnt even win goal of the month though cos of Scholes' effort. - sillykalcifer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2#9 should have been higher on the list, he tapped it over a guy and scored right after with only 2 touches total.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Why Digg him down? I hate Man U as much as the next man, but Scholes' goal was easily the best.
- Jerky1312, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Tugay is known for his amazing goals from long range. He came 4th on this year's list and if I'm not mistaken, his goal against Fulham was #1 for the 05/06 season (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Here is his volley goal against Fulham, outside of the box, from a corner kick...

Here is another against Bale, where he rids himself of the defender and sends in a long range shot uncontested...

Drogba's first goal could have been placed higher on the list. Amazing player. - fate3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2i'm not really a soccer fan but those goals are absolutely incredible to watch
- krasht, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is taken from the Total Football show on Fox Sports here in Australia. Andy Harper is the host in the video.
- chestertonb, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6All well and good but if we talking goals from the past then step up Mr Dalian Atkinson.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTBpPvqPBfg - fusama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Excelent goals. I'd have orderd them a bit differently though, Drogba's (#10) would have been higher, for example. The curve he had on that is the sort of thing goalkeepers have nightmares about.
- Dsmoka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0sorry it has to be James Mcfadden fi Everton, gave himself a 1-2 they were all good
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wow, thanks for the information.
/sarcasm - wreckingcru, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Scholes definitely deserved the top spot!

Messi's goal is not impressive on the strike per se, but more so on his dribbling skills. This top 20 seems to be focused on striking ability and that is usually showcased from long range shots or shots off volley's. If we are going by striking only, Ronaldinho's goal is more impsssive. If it were dribbling skills, Messi's skills in that video are very impressive.
An eerily similar goal was scored by a Turkish play by the name of Oktay Derelioglu, which some consider his run from the midline, passing defenders 7 times (counting the goalie), on his way to a goal in a World Cup qualifer against Belgium as the most impressive solo performance for a goal earned in the history of futbol. You decide, the quality of the videos aren't great, as the game is pretty old (1998)...
