- Timpala, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7All beautiful animals. I feel fortunate to have met a few of these wonderful horses.
- z3r0c0O1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7"They're on the turn, and Secretariat is blazing along! The first three-quarters of a mile in 1:09 and four fifths. Secretariat is widening now! He is moving like a TREMENDOUS machine! Secretariat by twelve, Secretariat by fourteen lengths on the turn! Sham is dropping back. It looks like they'll catch him today, as My Gallant and Twice a Prince are both coming up to him now. But Secretariat is all alone! He's out there almost a sixteenth of a mile away from the rest of the horses! Secretariat is in a position that seems impossible to catch. He's into the stretch. Secretariat leads this field by eighteen lengths, and now Twice a Prince has taken second and My Gallant has moved back to third. They're in the stretch. Secretariat has opened a twenty-two length lead! He is going to be the Triple Crown winner! Here comes Secretariat to the wire. An unbelievable, an amazing performance! He hits the finish twenty-five lengths in front!"
Thank you Secretariat. - sebconn, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6**American Horse** Racing's Great Horses.
There's horse racing outside of America. - PrinceKheldar, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5How the heck do you do a list like this and not include a horse like Phar Lap?
- Matagascar, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Buried. Really surprised that you featured no Australian horses after one of the most important races in the world, the Melbourne Cup just finished.
- jerrykew, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Phar Lap, image no 6, foaled in NZ raced in Aus
- jerrykew, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Image no 6, Phar Lap
- mrmaroon, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Buried.
Shergar? Desert Orchid? Red Rum? Phar Lap? - diggdong, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Best thing about ***** a horse is you always have a ride home.
-Dave Attel - audioslavery, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Definitely one of the greatest races ever.
- jerrykew, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Everyone is asking about Phar Lap, it is image no 6???
J - TehFonz, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Where is Mr Ed?
- audioslavery, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1It's obviously not going to appease everybody. But hey, a horse racing post on digg, heck yeah!
But what the hell, no Zenyatta? 14 wins in 14 starts is greatness no matter how you put it.
Secretariat is definitely the greatest in my mind. My personal favorites are Barbaro and Zen though. - Scoreboard, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1John Henry - 83 starts, 39 wins, 15 seconds, and 9 thirds with $6,497,947 in earnings. He was twice voted the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year (1981 and 1984). Major oversight.
- JoeParanoid, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1A thrilling race. Secretariat set course and world records in almost every race. They are all magnificent animals, but Big Red remains my all-time fave.
- NeiloMac, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Arkle? Best Mate? Kauto Star? Sea The Stars? etc...etc...
- mhummel, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0I only went through the list to check for Phar Lap, and I didn't find it initially either. Says something about the utility of the slideshow format and implementation.
- JPFinno, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1where the ***** is Phar Lap?
- jmdwinter, on 11/10/2009, -2/+1Yes but can they run Crysis?
- Frogger4Truth, on 11/10/2009, -7/+2horse racing is cruel.
