- MoundOfManure3, on 03/11/2009, -2/+39thats one of the most badass stories i have every heard.
- redfred18t, on 03/12/2009, -0/+29The picture where it looks like he is punching the shark is pretty ***** epic.
- Toshibi, on 03/12/2009, -0/+27How does he dive with brass balls that ***** big?
- codyjohnle, on 03/12/2009, -3/+28the shark didn't even have lasers.
- GumGuts, on 03/12/2009, -1/+21'Once I shot it in the gills I felt a moral obligation to finish the job,' says Mr Clasen.
"...so I just went ahead and took the conservative route and put a shaft through its gills." - zeth006, on 03/12/2009, -1/+17Dugg for a good read.
I feel kind of bad for the shark now haha. The dude pretty much had it won once he stuck the knife into its gills. It's like having someone skewer you through the neck/mouth. Can't breathe.
On a further note, good going with the guy. Even Chuck Norris would've given him a thumbs up. =) - galvanize, on 03/11/2009, -5/+20I suppose "killing it with fire" wouldn't be a possibility in this case...
- MazdaVI, on 03/12/2009, -0/+15A two hour fight? And he was free diving? This guy may be more alpha then Bear Grylls. He even ate a chunk of it.
- Glorydies, on 03/12/2009, -0/+11That is pretty ***** metal.
- haroonie, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10FTW - "We saved the tail and the head, cut a giant chunk out of it and ate a piece."
- jnav121, on 03/11/2009, -0/+10kill it with knife! while i take pictures
- davidsmero, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10Free diving is no tanks, just the air in your lungs.
An experienced free diver can hit 120ft+ - LeeJeremyR, on 03/12/2009, -0/+7Fish still need oxygen, and they generally get it through the water that goes in through their mouth, and passes through their gills. I would assume that by dragging it by its tail, it prevents water from going through the gills (in the correct direction?). Something like that.
Fish need oxygen though, and they get it from the water. - MogusMaximus, on 03/12/2009, -2/+9Poor defenseless shark didn't even have a laser on its head.
- MogusMaximus, on 03/12/2009, -2/+9+gillyweed is an additional 50ft
- davidsmero, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6I've met Cameron Kirkconnell, he's a great guy.
http://www.youtube.com/user/cameronkirkconnell - His Youtube channel. I am sure video of the shark will be up soon. - sedatedson, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6"...so I just went ahead and took the conservative route and put a shaft through its gills."
Bad. *****. Ass. - bitmanx, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Shark, it's what's for dinner..
- Piha, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Did you read this:
'This was one of the most remorseful moments I have ever had in all of my years in hunting, gathering and fishing,' explains Mr Clasen.
'Personally I never shoot anything or kill anything that I am not going to eat.
'We saved the tail and the head, cut a giant chunk out of it and ate a piece.
'I wasn't there to hunt the shark, it was a defensive move for me' - ghostlywind, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5I think this guy gets a Man Award
- codyjohnle, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5most sharks are experienced enough to not need tanks.
- CannonGod, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5"TIGER UPPERCUT!"
- whisp8, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4wow whoever copy edited this article needs to be fired.
- ltethe, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4look at the flippers and those quads... The man has obviously been swimming against the weight of those brass balls since birth.
- codyjohnle, on 03/12/2009, -1/+5njslacker... killing a shark is bad ass. if the shark is 200 years old and hooked up to life support and some guy kills it with a knife it's still bad ass.
- flyingclutchman, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4if you measure from the tip of the fin to his head he looks pretty close to 12 ft
- davidsmero, on 03/12/2009, -2/+6Self defense.
- Cheezay, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Dugg for Mr Clasen's raw power and undoubtedly huge balls.
- MikiMac, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3In this video they reach only 90ft.
Amazing! crappy song though :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu3Qvim5ckU - diggmeordie, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3That guy's arms and legs are huge. I'd rather face a 12 ft tiger shark than him armed with a knife much less a speargun.
- Piha, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3They are blue water spearfishing, most of this is done in the pelagic zone (near surface), they are hunting VERY fast moving fish (tuna), notice the really long fins, they are equipped for speed. It is bloody hard to even swim a third as fast with a dive tank and BCU(the vest and kit) on. They also have a smaller more graceful profile, not as threatening to their prey, but also this shark by the sounds.
- MrSwap, on 03/12/2009, -1/+4What would you have done? Spear it in the side and it might eat your friend anyway and wait a few days to die. Killing a circling shark = self defense.
- zeth006, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Ok, I got that tiny detail a bit off. Sorry, ok?
- 7Animalmother7, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Lets hope another shark saw this and the word is spreading not to f/w humans.
- DasHef, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2The camera adds a few feet.
- soupdawg30, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2I say we take the ocean back.
- big90burban, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2this man is the *****!
- slashdotordigg, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2kill it with spear!! and then
roast it with fire!! and some seasoning salt...
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... - melisaki, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3PETA: Oh noes! they be killin mah sea kittins!
- hawksfan03, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2if by no reason you mean so he wasn't eaten then yes your comment is accurate
- NJSlacker, on 03/12/2009, -3/+5Sensationalist Journalism.
If you actually pay attention to what you're reading, you'll see that there was no attack (like the last picture's caption claimed), and no "wrestling" involved. Basically, they got bad vibes from the shark so they subdued it (shooting it in the gills) and the shark was so hardy it took two hours to officially kill it. - Piha, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Yeah bro, you'd need to be a little bit mad to jump in the water with a tiger that size intentionally... it's not huge, but it's definately big enough to kill an adult human.
I'd rather jump in the water with a 12ft Great white than a 12ft tiger ANY day. The thing that makes tigers more dangerous IMO is they are less fussy eaters. - Piha, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Yeah except the shark is not stuck in some kind of enclosure, it can swim away. And if the account is accurate, that shark was doing the hunting. One of the humans feeling cornered fought back, effectively.
- Rivetgeek, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Dear digg:
Dailymail filter plox. - pook187, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2I liked the part where he killed the giant shark.
- Piha, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Well if by home you mean: "A creature wandering around in a vast environment is at home." Then those humans are also at home. So it's more like a domestic than a property invasion.
- nomadofthewaves, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2They took this from outside magazine here is the article. There's another badass story about a UF student diving with him who almost drowned but he saved the kid by shooting his fin.
http://outside.away.com/outside/culture/200903/spe ... - rodrigo74, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2It can't get more macho than that.
