- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11He had an insane work ethic. Love the line: "They don't get here by just wishin'"
- diggerphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I remember being a kid in the seventies, working late into the night one time, trying to duplicate his around-the-back and under-the-leg layup.
Pistol Pete was the man back then.
(Yes, I am *that* old.) - Erik1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He gives all us white boys that play basketball someone to look up to.
- lotuseater, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16What ***** background music.
- RobTyree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Pistol Pete was quite the baller. He definitely didn't deserve to have his highlight reel ruined by being backed up by some lame ass Green Day songs.
- Frisbinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Look at what he said: "I don't want to play 10 years [in the NBA] and then die of a heart attack when I'm 40."
And look at what happened: On January 5, 1988, while playing a pickup basketball game at the Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena, California, with a group that included Focus on the Family head James Dobson (Maravich was scheduled to appear on Dobson's radio show later that day), he collapsed and died of a heart attack at the age of only 40.
What a great guy, still inspires 20 years after his death, and most likely will continue to. - bubby06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The NBA didn't use a picture of him to create their logo. The logo is based on Jerry West.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only difference being that he actually hits a decent percentage of them? :)
- nullvector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He makes most of today's NBA players look like selfish thugs....
Oh wait..we already knew that. - BarbaraKolbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This gets me psyched for my son's b-ball tournament this weekend. And I looove March Madness. I remember Pete's death. Yup. Some of us here are that old...
Thanks! - BobaFettTDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Boy could that man ever play basketball.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey hey leave ZZ top out of that comment, they kick ass and always will m/
- Eric21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He is probly the most underrated player ever, and one of the best.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1he was never underrated he is in the nba top fifty all time
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I applaud the uploader for not having a watermark until the very end.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1he set all these records, and the whole time he had an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.
freakin amazing
before today, all i knew about him was his name. - MaX2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That MIX was insane. I loved when Red Auerbach screams to the kids watching at home, "Don't try it! Don't try it!" Plus I enjoyed watching Pete's sweet jumpers. Music is obviously personal but Green Day, Oasis, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith is not gut wrenching. (I can't defend Creed except to say that Pete became a very religious guy.) Don't like the music? Every computer has a mute button or volume slider... use it. Finally Drum Bum, thanks for linking to this. I'm going to watch it again...
- Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pistol Pete and Nathan Fillion: separated at birth?
- snutz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3That's probably because it's a mash-up of Wonderwall and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Duh.
Some of those songs were decent, but not at all fitting for a basketball highlight reel. And Creed isn't fitting for anything. - 83457, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14:18
- bluenash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1good vid...thx for sharing
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1someone please explain that miserable gut wrenching background music. its rubbish.
now i know what daggers made out of petrified whale skin being driven into my ears feels like. - mojoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In the 70s it was West and Maravich. I always wanted to play like Maravich. You was so damn good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1one of the best players ever, in todays game he would be like iverson taking to many shots.
- Xspire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lol. My brother had this video on his myspace for weeks like 4 months back. I will agree though this is the best "Pistol Pete" Video out there.
- crashnburn275, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I miss Dookie and Insomniac. Anyone?
- renblak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Relating to the music:
I just realized that first song is the same as wonderwall with cheesy effects and crappier vocals. I've heard that song before, but never really noticed. - Tantamime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1did we really need three minutes of footage showing that Pistol Pete could shoot three's? Cut the crap and get to the awesomeness sooner.
- sambtravis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2*sigh* Oh the days when white men could still jump.
- NeMeSiS187, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1As much as I like basketball and respect Pistol Pete Maravich if I have to hear that stupid Green Day song one more time I'm going to stick my lonely road up their asses... Hahaha that didn't sound right but I'll leave it for comedic value.
- hitaco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1what game is this?
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1This is the reason the NBA used a picture of him to create their logo.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i309/tree39702/NBA.jpg - bartrumb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Dang that was the best white player I have ever seen!
