- rtcrooks, on 05/01/2009, -1/+21I always thought that horses laid eggs, and I learned something today.
- billricardi, on 05/03/2009, -0/+10Great source. Its called 'The Toilet Paper' for a reason. This is filled with inaccurate figures and just plain crap. You have to amortize the cost of the horse and training over the number of races that it runs. They don't mention that their 'average training cost' is inflated due to the minority who spend ridiculous amounts on unproven techniques that haven't produced results. Yay for BS statistics.
- average650, on 05/02/2009, -0/+10It's kinda of deciving because most of that cost is to buy the horse. But it's not like this is the only thing they do in their lifetime. They run many other races and most will go on to stud. Same with training, they train for many races. This is the biggest of course, but the training goes for many races.
- HappyScrappy, on 05/03/2009, -1/+10Turns out you can save about $365,000 on the price of the horse (compared to this chart) and still win.

- bstew22, on 05/03/2009, -0/+5my friend and i decided to wage a friendly bet on the 5 horses who had 50-1 odds. We said whoever crossed the line first out of the 5 50-1 odds horses would win.....the bet was the tab at the next Happy Hour after work.
I picked Atomic Rain....he picked Mine that Bird. what a %$^&*( - skinny01, on 05/02/2009, -2/+7I would've thought that it would be a "Mike Tyson in his prime" fight. Probably the most expensive 20 seconds.
- SRSco, on 05/03/2009, -0/+3Based on the fact that your comment is getting buried, I'd guess no Hunter S. Thompson fans have ventured over here.

- asgardshill, on 05/03/2009, -9/+2A great excuse for old people to wear big stupid hats in public and drink mint juleps. But sporting value? Not so much.
- lagoamedia, on 05/02/2009, -10/+1Clever.
