- Lane, on 11/19/2007, -20/+516I'm surprised the rule books don't address this kind of thing; clearly Phill Dawson just scored 1,000,000 points by my calculations.
- XdigitalXdeathX, on 11/19/2007, -2/+199High Res Youtube clips can't come soon enough. This video is absolute ***** quality.
Game was awesome. I couldn't watch it and got stuck with 4 Commentators who were watching it and would show the replay of the game a split second later. - carguy84, on 11/19/2007, -6/+191I hope the uploader has the express written permission of the NFL AND CBS.
- das7282, on 11/19/2007, -8/+192The rule books do address this... If it goes "through" the up rights, it's good... The referees made a good call.
- rossnyc, on 11/19/2007, -3/+147He split the uprights and safely pulled out.
- theNazz, on 11/19/2007, -4/+82Laces OUT!
- scheibs14, on 11/19/2007, -2/+65Just in case they take it down:

- HedwigDies, on 11/19/2007, -1/+58Both forms of football can be entertaining, Stop being an elitist.
- PoppaSpanky, on 11/19/2007, -1/+51How 'bout it broke the plane of the goal posts twice, so he gets 6 points. ;-)
- lnxfi, on 11/19/2007, -1/+4941 + the 10 yards of end zone.
- IllBeBack, on 11/19/2007, -2/+45That was the bounce of a career. Twenty years from now he'll remember this moment like it was yesterday.
- Useight, on 11/19/2007, -2/+42It was yesterday.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -6/+45Hows that for a pythagorean theorem, bitch!
- CorpT, on 11/19/2007, -1/+38He had implied oral consent.
- TurboBeard, on 11/19/2007, -2/+38In-and-outs are 2pts...
- JasonCox, on 11/19/2007, -8/+42GO BROWNS!
- stalzdiggity, on 11/19/2007, -3/+36theres nothing in the rule books that says a giraffe cant play football
- ScaredOfTheMan, on 11/19/2007, -8/+40That was AWESOME! How long before the NFL copyright police take it down you think? My guess is with in the hour... So sad fans can't appreciate their game on their terms.
- twoboxen, on 11/19/2007, -1/+32please point out a crazier one.
- alcimedes, on 11/19/2007, -8/+39The strange thing is that there are rules in place to review a touchdown, but nothing to review a field goal. I suppose it's typically so obvious as to not be an issue, but then there's this.
I had assumed that if the football crosses the plane = touchdown, the ball crossing the horizontal bar would = field goal, and eventually the refs. came to that conclusion as well. Anyone know if there's an official on this though? Does the ball have to pass through and *stay* passed through? - SonicAD, on 11/19/2007, -1/+31Has anyone mentioned yet that it's because the end zone is 10 yards deep?
- mt066, on 11/19/2007, -0/+30let me be the first to say: 10 yards end zone
- feshmania, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2833-30 Cleveland, but you know, good attempt...
- griz, on 11/19/2007, -1/+28So if you run the ball into the end zone and then run back out, it's not a touchdown?
- sapo916, on 11/19/2007, -2/+26I am the NFL, I give him permission. Close thread.
- kosmoX, on 11/19/2007, -5/+26Close. There is an invisible plane that has to be broken. Much like a TD, it doesn't matter if the ball goes back across once it has broken the plane.
- Skellbasher, on 11/19/2007, -0/+20Under the current rules, the outcome of a field goal is not a reviewable play. Hitting part of the goal structure changes nothing.
The rule on a field goal is that the ball must completely pass through the U formed by the crossbar and uprights. This is why balls that hit the crossbar and come back into the field of play are not counted. In this case, the ball completely passed through the U, and hit the support structure behind the posts, therefore it was the correct call of a made field goal.
Similar thing happened in the Buffalo / Pats game. Lindell hit the camera mounted on the support beam dead on, and the ball came back out onto the field. Since the camera is mounted behind the uprights, and the ball hit that object, the FG counts. - fani, on 11/19/2007, -0/+20Are you on drugs ?
- Wamzlee, on 11/19/2007, -0/+20Damn loopholes, thats the same way AirBud got into the game as well!
- RooDoG, on 11/19/2007, -0/+19But obviously this guy has seen one crazier so we must see proof on his debatable remark or his comment will not be taken seriously
- Hockey37, on 11/19/2007, -0/+19Yes it...was, Mr. Shatner.
- thentro, on 11/19/2007, -3/+22in case you didn't get it, the end zone is 10 yards
- mrjofo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+18In 1974, the uprights were right on the goal line
But some of the players were running into them
And getting hurt
So screw the kicker
Who cares about the kicker? - loneBoat, on 11/19/2007, -2/+19Sooooo, let me get this straight. They're counting the end zone? :-) Thanks for the [plethora of] replies!
- johnn11238, on 11/19/2007, -0/+17Is that 2 points total, or two per thrust?
- BinaryDelt, on 11/19/2007, -0/+16Uh, yeah it was. Crossed the plane = 3 points.
- SWiG, on 11/19/2007, -0/+15http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80448909
- Justizzle, on 11/19/2007, -11/+25I'm not even sure why people were making a big deal out of this. It was an incredible thing to watch, but it went through the uprights. It's good. Who cares what it did after the fact, it still went through.
- mjrpes, on 11/19/2007, -0/+12I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but it's 51 because of the 10 extra yards for the end zone.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -4/+16crazy != gay
- johnn11238, on 11/19/2007, -1/+12Wow. That high-school football story was waaaaaaaaaay too long. I pity your drinking buddies.
- trogdor282, on 11/19/2007, -1/+12Dugg for Simpsons reference.
- frenchdiggler, on 11/19/2007, -3/+14He was saying the ruling wasn't a mistake, Cleveland is. The Cleveland (aka the Mistake by the Lake) Browns have a surprising 6-4 record. Indeed, WTF??
- jun2san, on 11/19/2007, -0/+11I prefer this video over the youtube one. It's in higher definition and you can actually see the ball bounce back the first time around. Just gotta sit through a 20 second campbell's soup ad.
- tatinthehat, on 11/19/2007, -1/+11http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80448909
somewhat better quality video - luckykpolice, on 11/19/2007, -1/+11He's being waterboarded as we speak.
- davewashere, on 11/19/2007, -3/+13Yeah, a field goal is measured as the yard marker at the line of scrimmage plus 17 yards. That's 7 yards back for the placement of the ball, and 10 yards for the full lenght of the end zone.
- legendxx, on 11/19/2007, -0/+9title says nfl history, not peewee league
- legendxx, on 11/19/2007, -2/+11I speak for all other Americans when I say, stfu.
